MERRY has announced at their live at 5/5 that their new album, "エムオロギー" (M-ology), will be released later this summer. Details tba.
 
They will also hold their nationwide tour, "システム エムオロギー" (system m-ology), from September to February 2018 to commemorate the album's release.

1. How familiar are you with this band?
 
✓ I've listened countlessly / own 99% of their stuff and every single shit kazuma has produced after MGR + a bunch of related vk magazines / believe kazuma is god
○ I've listened to a few of their songs / own their music / am familiar with some members side projects
○ I've heard of this band in passing but never bothered to give them a whirl
○ Don't know who these guys are at all
 
basically, the biggest MGR sucker in captivity.. *sigh*

I don't know. Quite a few VK bands sold really well back in late '90s and early '00s, such as the ones you mentioned plus the likes of FANATIC◇CRISIS, PENICILLIN, sads, MALICE MIZER, Laputa, La'cryma Christi etc, but none of them had any big names like YOSHIKI, hide or Ryuichi Kawamura in order to have a bigger pull with audiences for a Dome stage. Tokyo Dome still is a huge deal and playing there must feel like a big shot in the dark which may prove to be too risky. I still feel like it was a mistake for Gazette and SID to have played there.

That con actually gets lots of bands, and Canada has LOTS of fans. They are just a bit scattered because the country is so big.

Their April fanclub-only tour has the same name/theme. If you can get a ticket, there's abig  chance they'll only do old songs in those.

No doubt. I used to have a sweet collection of like 4 hide music videos in .ASF format. Simpler times, man.

Psycho le Cemu - Roman Hikou (2003)
First "VK" song I actually liked (PV is great too), and was sort of into the album FRONTIERS. However I pretty much hated any other VK I tried at that time... stuff like Luna Sea, X Japan, Dir en Grey.. 
(actually, if you consider Janne Da Arc/Gackt/L'arc~en~Ciel circa 2003 to be VK, they'd probably be first, but I would call them J-rock at that point..)
 
So, aside from Psycho le Cemu, I continued to ignore all VK until 2009 when I chanced upon exist†trace's VANGUARD. They helped me get over my aversion to growling/screaming. I listened to them extensively for nearly a year until I discovered D'espairsRay's LOVE IS DEAD, which I paid attention to mostly because I thought the "You Spin Me Round" similarities were hilarious. Thus began my VK obsession.

A .rm (RealVideo) file of "Au Revior" by Malice Mizer got me into visual way way back in 2001.
