None. Even if I could get the rip elsewhere, I love touching my CDs, especially if they're digipacks.

Personally, I agree that if you don't have anything nice to say, then you shouldn't say it at all. Most of the time, negative comments are nothing more than users stroking their e-peen or attempting to build their ego - which usually stems from some sort of insecurity. So as deplorable as some comments may be, it's really something that should be pitied.

Some people tend to come on here and think that they can say whatever they want because "it's the internet", but they forget that this a forum run by people - people who have established rules.  Even though rules number 1 and 2 are clear as day, we don't go as far as to police every negative sentiment as long as it's presented in a civil and inoffensive way. Now we do our best to enforce these rules and weed out the troublemakers, but unfortunately, we don't always catch everything. This is when members, like yourself, can be of assistance. There is a 'report' button that you should see at the bottom of every post. It's a much more effective measure than using the rant thread. And even beyond that, the staff is always around to hear any complaints that you may have and you're always welcome to message us. We'd like to keep this a pleasant place for everyone.

And regarding @Lestat's comment. We're actually quite lenient and save banning as a last resort. We take bans seriously and they are something that the entire staff has input on. So suffice to say that out of the few bans that we've actually given out, each and every one of them has always been warranted.

VK does do the laundry for me and occasionally my hair.

Seriously though, is it this time of year again to have another "Is VK dying" discussion?

Okay, seriously serious now, it's just music like any other, there's good and there's bad, it's always been like that and I'm pretty confident it will always be like that. I don't listen to genres, I listen to bands.

And as someone who is most likely the oldest person in this thread let me tell you: you never get too old for any music. XD

What would be "relevant value"? Most people go to Youtube to do... what? Watch videos I suppose. I would say the "relevant value" of Youtube is to provide a central place for content creators to post their content and reach a huge audience. If Youtube wouldn't exist, content creators would have to post their videos on their own sites, pay for their own servers and bandwidth - and probably would struggle to even get close to the same amount of views. (And let's not get started with "move to Dailymotion" etc - Dailymotion isn't making a profit either, so that would only delay the problem.)

So if they would actually start to charge money for the central core of their service, they would have to turn into a full subscription service. As I understand it, so far they only charge money for some side-features, that we didn't had to begin with.

I mean seriously... that's like a car maker providing you with free cars for years, and then offering to add some fancy wheel caps for a charge and people start screaming: Oh no! This is the end! I want my free car, how dare they charge money for it! And even if the free car suddenly came without a stereo - it's still a free car.

Personally I'm not interested in the fancy wheel caps, so to speak, but I'm happy to have my free car.

I don't think this has anything to do with stopping people from comitting copyright infringements. Copyright holders can already use the current content ID system to get their share of the ad revenue.

But like I said: Youtube so far hasn't been making any profit whatsoever. How long do you think Google will continue to operate a site that is only causing them losses, or at best a break-even.

Whether Youtube Red is the best way to go about it remains to be seen, but I think it should be obvious to anyone: Youtube is not a charity. They offer a service, they have expenses, they need to make money. So far they don't.

I know these days many people expect to get everything free in the internet. But when it's free but ad-supported, they complain about the ads. When it's ad-free, but costs money, they complain it costs money. But servers and technicians/programmers don't run on magical unicorn poo, you know. They cost money.

Not quite. Yes, anyone who is a YT partner has to make their content availible for Youtube Red. That does NOT mean that this very content will no longer be availible for free. You can still watch the free ad-supported version of that content if you don't want to subscribe. It's essentially like Spotify: you can listen to it for free, but with ads, or you can get a subscription to get rid of the ads and have some additional features like an offline modus.

There WILL be some additional content, specifically produced for Youtube Red that will only be availible via subscription, but that is ultimately in the discretion of the content creators.

At the moment it doesn't seem that anything that is currently availible for free will be made pay-only with the new system.

Saw the legendary Morrissey last night at Budapest's Millenáris theatre. What a show! Dude is in great shape, he can still sing amazingly, everything was crystal-clear and beautiful (this goes for the overall sound too). There was a bit of a delay in starting, but it was well worth the wait. I really respect that he doesn't resort to a typical oldies-fest best-of setlist, but rather one focusing on his recent records (the new album in particular). He also performed some cool rarities, and the song I initially got to know him with, First of the Gang to Die (in a weird Latino-influenced new arrangement, haha). Of course, there was a Smiths track or two (well, three actually xD). Meat Is Murder was brutal as hell, and The Queen Is Dead was an excellent energetic encore.

Champ213 got a reaction from CAT5 in MH FEATURED POLL #33: How do you explore music?
I had very little time to explore new music in recent months, but somehow new music still finds me. Whether it's at a party (because I go to cool parties, of course ), while randomly browsing Youtube, seeing something on TV, etc. Before that I liked to just randomly download stuff and see if I like it.
And well, for japanese music, there's MH.

    Me too! XD

But yes, that's an interesting point. I guess it's true that sometimes it's just the nostalgia that lets us continue to enjoy some songs that we probably wouldn't take notice of if they were released today.

That's true. But I'm mostly baffled by the abruptness with which some people seem to exchange the things they love. My listening habits have changed a lot over the years as well, but I have to go back really far to get to some "lol, wth was I thinking?"-moment. And my answer would usually be "Well, I was 12 years old."

On the other hand, I have literally experienced people saying things like "Lol, I have just seen my last.fm charts from last year. I was such a weeaboo back then, totally embarrassing." Some people suggested that maybe they never loved the music to begin with, or loved it for the wrong reasons, but I think it may be the other way round, ie. they reject it now for the wrong reasons, like wanting to present a more "adult" taste, wanting to disassociate themselves from a fandom they grew to dislike etc.

I think music should be journey and you should keep exploring stuff, but a journey becomes kinda pointless if you vehemently try to forgot parts of your journey once you have moved on somewhere else. I do not listen to the same music I listened to 10 years ago, but I always try to bring the best bits and pieces of each stage of my musical journey as luggage into the next. Thus I can on rare occasions spin some old HIM or Marilyn Manson CDs, or some generic but fun vk song from 5 years ago, and be completely unashamed. XD
