Okay, this concert actually happened several months ago, but I didn't get around to post it yet.
But yeah, my sister and me went to Paganfest in Oberhausen earlier this year. Lots of fun was had.
Prepare for a bunch of crappy phone pics. XD And one crappy phone video!
First band was Frosttide, but I didn't take any pictures because we were too busy figuring out where the checkroom was.
The second band was a mystery to us for quite some time because neither of us could decipher their band logo. I had to check the band flyer on my phone to see that their name - ironically - was "Obscurity". They were decent, albeit a bit generic.
Next band was Finsterforst. Yay, first accordeon of the evening! But you couldn't hear it at all over... everything else. Vocalist had some pretty neat chant-like clean vocals though. Audience was doing the first wall of death
Then came Grailknights. I was expecting something completely whacky, and they certainly did deliver. Swordfights on stage, a crowd-surfing Skeletor-double and a "superhero-medley" covering themes from Saber Rider, Ninja Turtles, Power Rangers and others.
Next was Heidevolk. They played a few songs I knew, including my favourite "Nehelennia" so - yay. Also, they have two vocalists, which is pretty awesome.
Now Turisas, which I've been looking forward to the most. They certainly won best backdrop already, with the band being portrayed as byzantine-style icons.
They even brought in an accordeon player (the dude from Korpiklaani I think) for a very frantic rendering of "In the Court of Jarisleif". They also played some older songs like "Midnight Sunrise".
And I still can't believe that they played "End of an Empire". How much I had wished they played it when I saw them in Cologne last year, but they didn't because I think they almost never play this song live. But here they did and it was glorious. And accompanied by a foam shower.
We had to take a break after Turisas, so we lost our prime viewing spot. But that's okay, Wintersun were a lot more static on stage than the lively Turisas anyway. They started by playing pretty much the complete Time I album, which was pretty cool (Land of Snow and Sorrow ♥), followed by some older songs - and a new song! Jari was grinning like a kid in a candy store the whole gig. He was clearly having a good time. Wintersun were also definetely the most technically proficient band. I have never seen a metal band that was able to reproduce the sound from CD so perfectly live.
If you're interested, here's a one-minute video clip of them playing, recorded on my phone.
And finally Korpiklaani. They were pretty routine. I enjoyed it well enough though, considering I barely knew a single song they played. Also, after 8 hours straight of standing, jumping and shouting I had become really loopy. We also had to leave 1 or 2 songs early to catch our trains back. I basically needed a new set of feet after that concert, but that was an amazing evening.

I had very little time to explore new music in recent months, but somehow new music still finds me. Whether it's at a party (because I go to cool parties, of course ), while randomly browsing Youtube, seeing something on TV, etc. Before that I liked to just randomly download stuff and see if I like it.
And well, for japanese music, there's MH.

I don't really care either way. I for once certainly have enough material for seperate 80s and 90s nights. If there's enough interest for both, all the better.
-
Yes, they should be able to buy from there.
Basically, make an account, find the "Place an order" button, enter the URL to the shop and tell them what item you want in the description. They'll get back to you with the costs of the item incl. fees and domestic shipping. You pay them via Paypal or whatever method you prefer, and they buy the item and have it shipped to their warehouse. Once it has arrived you have one month time to choose your preferred shipping method and have the item shipped to you. At that point you'll have to pay a second charge (overseas shipping + fees), and then you wait for it to arrive.
They also have a shopping fee calculator, if you want a rough estimate of the overall costs with all fees and such.

I'd rather take a combined 80s & 90s theme than having a pure 80s theme with only a handful of people around.
-
I'd be totally up for an 80s theme, but I'm worried too that it won't interest enough people
seeing how many people here haven't even been around in the 80s.Maybe it will garner more interest if we'd broaden the scope and make it an "80s & 90s" theme?

These 3 participants were tied for 5th place in round 1, so we have to do a tie-breaker vote. Same songs as before, just pick the one you think should advance to the next round! Voting will last until Sunday 11pm (CEST).

It's cool that you met up with some MH-ers, irl. Dammit, Champ and I should have photo-documented our meeting
But we photo-documented the nice cakes we've been eating!
Apparently Versailles-leftover bands have a tendency to bring MH-ers together.

Grabbed one of the copies that pop up on Yahoo Auctions from time to time. Always irks me to pay for something that's actually free, but alas, such is the fate of the collecter that wants some crap from japan that no one else cares about.

Welcome to round 1 of our Karaoke Contest 2015! Please check out the entries and pick your favourite!
You should vote purely based on vocal skills, not the choice of song, recording quality etc.
The order of songs here is the order in which I received them. Of our 9 contestants, the first 5 will advance to the next round. If one or more tracks are tied for fifth place at the end of the voting, there will be a tie-breaker vote. The vote will close Wednesday 24th at 11 pm (CEST).

Please do NOT ask your friends on social media etc. to vote for your song, or advertise your entry here! One of the reasons we use pseudonyms is to avoid friend voting! This contest is about your vocal talents, not mobilizing people on Facebook! If we notice that someone is trying to rig the voting by asking for votes, that person will be banned from the contest!

Much kvlt.
Very black metal.
Wow.
Seriously though, I liked it... somewhat. The bland drumming bothered me more than the vocals. And in general, I think for the genre they are trying to aim at the atmosphere of the song should be... thicker. The previous song they released was definetely more interesting.
The thing is though, at the moment there is little reason to listen to these guys when there are atmospheric black metal bands that can pull it off 20x better. (Then again, by that logic I probably shouldn't be listening to 50% of what I'm listening to, lol.)
Still, I'll keep my eye on them. Of the 3 songs they released on Youtube, 2 were quite interesting and 1 was mediocre, so... we'll see. -

Okay, this thread seems to steer pretty off-topic. Please keep it on the topic at hand, keep it civil and don't make this about personal fights, thanks.
