ಠ_ಠ I'm chubby ok? Can we please talk about how cool and pretty is instead? ;3

THIS SO MUCH. There's actually a lot of cool stuff going on in Japanese hip hop, but a good amount of it is ruined by MCs not knowing how to flow properly over a beat. It seems to be either a general quirk to the language or just a fundamental misunderstanding of how hip hop works lol. Either way, Japanese rappers like Itsuka are appreciated!

You really should, your work is so effortless too!

Best of wishes, Panda. Hope everything goes well for you!

The lighting in here is pretty awful, and my phone cam's brightness was set way too high, so while this selfie was technically a fail, I still like it ;3

haha, definitely. This one is pretty good. The hair at least matches the shape of my own (although not quite the texture ofc lol).
  8. I was actually going to post this, but hadn't gotten around to it yet lol. Anyways, looking forward to it! Although I'd honestly prefer new EGO-WRAPPIN' material...especially after hearing their last EP (which was recorded in mono - so I wanted to hear actual stereo versions of those songs), but solo Nakano is fine too. ;3
  9. This list of artists is actually surprisingly decent...and intriguing enough for me to want to check it out. AI, Ohashi Trio, hanaregumi, tofubeats/BONNIE PINK, and ringo...even the ayu one oughta be interesting.
  10. Wow, I had no idea this band was still around....It's funny cuz I was just going through some of the older stuff in my collection and came across this band's "re:birth" album from 2007. I'd always assumed they were some obscure band that vanished, but apparently I was wrong.

    Plug @ 8PM - 10PM UTC/GMT today. No theme, it's a free-for-all! http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html
  12. Hm...would be interested in hearing more from this band. Also, space shower music is cool!

Since we had a good turn out last Sunday, we'll try this again this Sunday - same time. @ 8PM - 10PM UTC. If anyone has any concerns about the timing, please let me know!
  14. Well you see that's the thing - this sound isn't unique or special at all - there are a plethora of Japanese underground/indie bands with noisy, abrasive sounds - and for THE NOVEMBERS to take their sound in this direction is anything, but pretentious imo - in fact, there's little, if any glory in taking your sound in direction that's not especially lucrative in Japan. Also, if you go back and listen to their older material, you'll see that their progression to this sound has been in the making for a long time, so this isn't the case of a band changing their sound overnight in an attempt to sound different. Also, from what I've been told from friends who have seen the band live, their live set was already noisy/abrasive/loud, so I imagine that the band probably wanted to capture that more accurately on record. And to be fair, the entire album isn't noisy, it's just the first 4 tracks, and maybe a few instances in the later shoegazy tracks - which is to be expected since that "wall-of-noise" sound is kind of a staple in shoegaze. I'd personally recommend you their album "To (melt into)"...the production is more agreeable, but it's also a much softer album overall too - no straightforward or "punchy" rock tracks.
  15. Nice, looking forward to it!
  16. Hey there and welcome to MH! I suppose my reputation precedes me lol, but I'm so glad that you've an interest in Japanese post-rock/indie-rock. You've certainly come to the right place! Japan's music scene is vast (and infinite if you want a GITS reference XD), so you're sure to discover all kinds of awesome things in it. Here on MH, you'll find a variety of different fans, so while I'd be more than happy to expose you to some of the sounds I enjoy, be sure to try and talk to/get to know as many ppl here as possible - we all have our individual music journeys and i'm sure we can all aid in yours somehow or other. ( : I like your taste already btw, do you have a last.fm? (mine is linked in my signature) Anyways, I hope you enjoy the community!
  17. Freeleech @ what.cd for the next 3 days. If anyone wants a particular western music release in a specific quality (v0, 320, flac), i'd be more than willing to DL it for you.

I wouldn't say no to a v0 rip of Kimbra's The Golden Echo (especially the deluxe version!) if they have it :D

  18. Indeed! This is why I always ask everyone for suggestions when conducting these polls. My J-rock knowledge is not all-encompassing. Besides, you can only include 20 options for each poll question, so... As for me, I voted for Atsushi, as he's been the most consistent for me. I was really into HYDE at one point, but stopped following him sometime in late 2007. I'm also a fan of Kiyoharu and Tetsu, but musically, they've been been inconsistent for me (I think Nil is the only Tetsu project that I really enjoy). While Mukai Shutoku is an absolute legend to J-indie heads (the fact that he has only 1 vote really show's the general taste of our userbase lol), I can't say that I'm especially fond of his work. Which is ironic because I enjoy many younger bands that have been influenced by his career in some way. So he at least gets my respect in that regard.

    Looking forward to it! :'D
