It is a great band, they have the "Cool" and "Popular" status on the internets because it was impossible to find their music and information some years ago, even in soulseek or utatane.
So, there was a lot of people desperately looking for their songs and they bacame... popular-ish.

It is the same with Feria or bands like Lanus Dune, etc.

    Thanks for posting!

Not to impose but I think a good idea to go along with this thread is to give to those that are interested the best release to check out from the list of bands they listed. Of course, if you don't want it that's all cool too. I just find myself that bands I haven't gotten into I didn't get into because they have so much to go through and I don't have a good starting point.

Misaruka is another one I'll bring up.   They're still pretty good and are better than a lot of bands out there. I mean they're sticking to this sound and style they've been trying to develop without becoming another mediocre pop rock band with electronic beats, deathcore pig screams and other hyped up VK cliches crammed into their songs. It's like they're actually trying to write good music except their songs are just kinda boring. Their early releases were pretty exciting, at least in a sense wanting more from them since they seem to have potential. Yet that last album just wasn't all that remarkable.   I think they can be great but I just don't know what it is that's holding them back.     Haha, this made me laugh. I don't listen to Kameleo but I'll sometimes have similar thoughts with other artists.

While this is true, the language barrier makes this a non-issue for most fans. There just isn't enough information about most artists in the scene for most people to care. Hell, for most people we don't even know their names. A lot of the charm in visual kei comes from the mystery of who these people are. Bringing personality and ethics into the mix ruins that.
On that same note, this may all just be an elaborate act and who you see on camera is who they want you to see, another part of the act and mystery. The psychotic dictator and poet Shan Yu once said, "Live with a man 40 years. Share his house, his meals. Speak on every subject. Then tie him up, and hold him over the volcano's edge. And on that day, you will finally meet the man."
Visual kei isn't much different in the end.

I want you to read up on Varg Vikernes and Euronymous and the people they associated with. There's a lot more to both of them but I'll give you a quick synopsis of some of the fucked up things the both of them did. Starting with Euronymous, when his friend Dead committed suicide before he called the authorities he took pictures of him, purportedly made a stew with bits of Dead's brain and had made necklaces with bits of his skull. Vikernes later was responsible for the death of Euronymous and claims that he acted in self-defense because Euronymous wanted to kill him...but this is after burning down several churches and spewing hateful, racist, malicious ideas.
Point is, the fucked up mentality and personalities of these two people were responsible for somewhat popularizing and legitimizing a genre that early 90's visual kei bands took a smattering of influence from. If a majority of people always took people's personalities into account when enjoying music, visual kei wouldn't be what it is today. Music wouldn't be what it is today.
And it's for this reason why I can listen to Burzum knowing full well that I don't want to be in a well-lit room alone with Vikernes.
tl;dr - No one listens to shitty music just because the artist funds cancer research. It should extend the other way too.

Aside from his days in Crack Brain, HIZAKI has pretty much grounded himself as a metal musician with this style he works with. His solo projects and the bands he has joined usually always had some variant of frilly metal riffs, solos and song structures. So I don't know why people expect anything else other than frilly HIZAKI metal from him? That's what he does and has always done for the majority of his musical career. Expecting him to do a kote kei song is silly when he's never really played that style of music.

Now Teru I think really branches out and does neat things, all the songs he composed in Versailles were some of the coolest they had and stood out from the rest. I'd listen through an album and without looking at who composed what, it was easy to tell which one was a Teru song. I hope Teru composes more music in Jupiter because his songs always were a breath of fresh air after two or three HIZAKI/Kamijo songs.

I was under the impression that they were widely regarded as symphonic power metal, leaning towards power metal later in their career as the symphonic parts were decreased as their career goes on.
But that's what genres do. They give you a general idea of what to expect. Any band that sticks to their guns on the genre that they belong to aren't very interesting.

He's experimented within the realm of Versailles some and that still didn't stop the torrent of criticism about how all of his music sounds the same. GLOWING BUTTERFLY, Dry Ice Scream and Judicial Noir are all pretty different sounding, yet they all sound very similar. It's Hizaki's style, not his influences, that makes everything sound the way it does.

For me, Danger Gang is an easy choice. They're a bit more raw sounding than Exist Trace is, especially new Exist Trace. Exist just seems too... polished nowadays, while Danger Gang has retained the same kind of sound they shoot for(which as far as I can tell, is to deliver music that is closer to their live stuff). I'm probably a little bit biased as well though as I've seen Danger Gang live a few times and they absolutely blew me away with their energy and presence.

TheBistroButcher666 got a reaction from CAT5 in [Band Battle] Kagrra, vs. 己龍 (Kiryu)
Ehhhhh, aside from the traditional Japanese elements these bands are like apples to oranges. Sure they're both fruit but the similarities end there. Both use traditional Japanese elements but that's kinda where it ends and they're two totally different bands. It's hard to explain why one is better than the other because they excel in completely different areas and it just comes down to personal taste.

Personally I prefer Kiryu since I like the chaotic, heavier, messier sounding style they have that can be easily compared to bands from Matina or KEY PARTY. Yet they become fairly bland and samey after awhile, I realized sometime ago after their second album that all my favourite Kiryu songs were basically structured identically. Just change a rift or two, lyrics and the synth and now they have a new song.

Kagrra, is good too but not so much my cup of tea. I enjoy them here and there but I guess the soft easy listening not so much for me. I bet if I spoke fluent Japanese their music might appeal to me more since I'd have lyrics to possibly keep my attention. Yet I haven't listened to Kaggra, for over a year or two now. Maybe I’ll give them a spin when I get home and check out some things I may have missed, might change my mind.

So basically just going with Kiryu for now. More familiar with them and prefer their chaotic, heavy and messy music.

TheBistroButcher666 got a reaction from Desqui in Lyrics - how much do they matter?
Lyrics are usually the last thing I care about in a song. Even songs in my native language the lyrics are usually the last thing I try and learn.

Honestly I can't explain why I don't care about lyrics, for me it's just not a priority when it comes to music. I have friends and acquaintances that HAVE to know the lyrics to a song or they just can't enjoy the music. I can see why with people that enjoy singing to a song or folks that enjoy translating but for me lyrics simply aren't a priority.

I also try to avoid learning the lyrics, especially for the blackened blackity blackblack metal stuff I like because the lyrics can often ruin a song for me. Mostly if they're just absurdly stupid or something like that. I'm also not a fan of funny lyrics so songs like 'This is a Pen' from Ensoku is not interesting or even funny to me. I think you have to sniff paint to think that is a good song. If the song didn't suck to begin with but was actually good I might like it if he was screaming This is a Pen in Japanese. Then I wouldn't be able to understand how retarded that song is.

I figure I'd mention but I cannot stand listening to full Engrish songs. It probably has to do with the above paragraph about funny lyrics or dumb lyrics ruining a song for me. You'd think that as someone that doesn't care about lyrics that Engrish songs would be something I'd be fine with. Yet Engrish songs are like nails on chalkboard to me especially when the song doesn't even sound like English and is instead some sort of abomination of the language. An example would be Versailles' Love Will Be Born Again I could not listen to that song without cringing in pain. For some reason it just sounds so wrong to my ears, maybe doesn't help that it was Kamijo of all people singing. It depends on the extent of how Engrishy it is to me, Kamijo needs to stop forever but YAMA-B is totally fine. Tid bits of Engrish sprinkled into a song don't really bother me but if it's 4-6 minutes of mumbling nonsense I just want to choke the singer. It really gets a negative reaction out of me hahaha!

TheBistroButcher666 got a reaction from Laurence02 in New VK vs. Old VK
What makes the argument so dumb is that not everyone will be able to agree on what defines old and new VK.

Most of the people that seem to get their panties in a twist are usually referring to the gawffy Matina/Soleil era bands. Yet they tend to conveniently overlook a lot of the more popular bands from those eras that were considered VK by Japanese standards. Since those bands didn't use the overly gothic aesthetics these people usually just overlook them like they didn't exist at all or weren't tr00 kvlt vKKK. Then they get this skewed idea that VK was the howling BDSM outfit indie bandmen when Fanatic Crisis, Sophia and Wyse where around during that time and also considered to be very VK.

While I agree multi-type releases is freaking crap but keep in mind that the Japanese market is slightly different. Japanese fans tend to devote themselves to one band only, so while Western fans might be fans of several bands making multi-release campaigns impossible for them to keep up with. A Japanese fan may only listen to Kiryu so buying their 20 type single release isn't too hard on them because they only care about Kiryu. Also from what I understand, the multi-type release is a way to inflate sale numbers because Oricon charts don't differentiate between what types people buy. So now that fan that bought all 20 types of Kiryu's new CD pads onto that number that determines the single's ranking on the Oricon charts. No wonder Kiryu is so popular!
Don't get me wrong though, I hate this multi-type release gimmick that labels do but realizing the two items above. It makes sense how it works in that scene.
I'm pretty forgiving when it comes to live only stuff. It sucks but it's the best way for them to make the most money back to support themselves instead of losing bits and pieces to it from the distribution costs. I don't like it but I can see why bands do live onlys, get their devotees to come to the live but also not have to worry about losing anything from costs associated from nationwide distribution.
Bringing up good old Wataru, what I found sickening were the fangirls blaming the victim. Their beautiful kawaii idol could never do something so horrible and obviously she deserved it. Who knows, maybe she was being an insufferable fangirl (just like them) that caused Wataru to snap and choke her but no one deserves to be attacked like that. It's okay though, 12012 is terrible anyway.
The entitlement issues Western fans have. I think what frustrates me the most is the jerk offs that will whine about how they NEED the latest Kiryu release. You don't NEED it to live, you don't NEED it to eat or breath. If you need it that badly then do something about it, mow lawns, sort recycle from the trash, clean your neighbor's gutters or something. Screaming and crying how it's not fair someone else bought the CD and you can't listen to it is the most obnoxious crap. I'd go Wataru on a bitch the next time someone cries at me because I won't share with them something I bought.

I think musically it's still going to be your standard heavy symphonic power metal music. I just hope that since they're not confined to the whole Versailles vampire story thing. They can expand and try new things which will be cool (like Teru composing more songs)

Uhhhhh maybe because it's a thread about Jupiter? A band that has the all former Versailles members minus Kamijo. Which is why people are speculating what ZIN will be like and their opinions on Kamijo. All I'm saying is you need to get over the fact that the entire time Jupiter exists, especially with their first couple of singles or albums, everyone will be comparing ZIN to Kamijo. It's going to happen, happens with Malice Mizer to this day, happens with Moi Dix Mois happens with any band that has changed vocalists. ZIN has big shoes to fill and he has a fanbase of sexually frustrated pudgy girls to appease since they don't have Kamijo to rub off too anymore.
