Soukyuu's a hidden gem and I will let everyone know whether they want to or not. I'm glad I discovered it and I'm glad it got a new season ._. All the death flags and all the drama though. This is going hard, I'm sure.

Just finished re-watching Sokyuu no Fafner last night in preparation to start watching the new season... and damn I forgot how great a mecha show it is. Definitely one of the sleeper hits among mecha shows and totally gets a spot on my top ten mecha series list.

Also a few weeks ago I decided to re-watch the original Mobile Suit Gundam for fun and nostalgia purposes and I had a great time reliving my childhood, so much so that I think I'm gonna be revisiting more of the U.C. mobile suit series here in the near future

the style of animation is refreshing.. BUT

-simplistic, boring plot - even a 4 year old could follow
    -boring character personalities
    -boring character designs
    -boring costume/outfit designs
-repetitive and slow-paced, with not much progress

-sure, it makes for an easy peasy group cosplay.. but what else?

The first time ever I've seen someone say the manga is "terrible." Well, I do know of the butthurt fans who can't stand there's been questions with no answer at the end, and the writer had the guts to

The anime was something which could have been lots better if they had taken their time to do the episodes as nicely as they did the last one. Can't wait for the second season though. It's rumored to be an anime only season, and could easily take place in the 6 months time-skip they did in the manga. At least this time they got the actual writer on board to write the scenario so I'm curious.

(Also curious about one of my fave actors getting a drawing of himself in the TG universe from the mangaka. What project are you getting yourself into)

Watched Absolute Duo for the sake of watching something, and I was wondering whether it would be another ecchi series for Matsuoka as well. I love his voice but... stay away from the ecchi... please...

Late 2002. Anime songs and friends led me to discover some MALICE MIZER, X JAPAN and Gackt stuff. I used to get my music from Kazaa and WinMX as well, but then everything changed with Soulseek. Geez, it's been too long.

I stand corrected on the Fate/Stay Night: UBW adaptation. It got better and better as it went and the art was really nice to look at as well. Though I'm not totally into the story (I have never come near the VN) I have to say it was a fun watch and I'll surely be checking out the next cour of it.

Also finished Amagi Brilliant Park and it was cute. Nice art and animation as expected from KyoAni.

The only two Gazette albums I can still care for, but DIM wins the top spot in the end. Why? Despite NIL having been my real introduction to the band, DIM is an album I loved from start to finish, and has some kind of mysterious flow through the tracks. I doubt they'll ever be able to upstage that.

SAO2 was fun to me for the whole first arc. After that I got bored. I should finish it soon though.

Started Sailor Moon when it started airing for the sake of it and I kind of regret it because I get insanely annoyed by their voices. I'm not a person to watch anime with mostly girls for a lead apparently.

Hitsugi no Chaika's second season was about as good as the first. Really solid anime imo, and I should read more of the manga. I really like the lead guy. Kind of a no-nonsense character. It was a fun watch. Terra Formars is a mess in which every episode is just "let's fight some cockroaches" and even though it's just that, there's been moments I've been amused with it. I mean, "Let's play baseball." You're on Mars. Fighting Cockroaches. But okay. All is well. Also finished Ookami Shoujo to Kuro Ouji. It was okay. I enjoyed it. Probably mostly because of Kyoya being the main kid and me having a thing for hopeless brats. Psycho-Pass 2 left me disappointed. Way too many parts in the story and characters they could have gone further on but never did. Don't tell me there's something more to a character's past and then don't even mention it for any of the remaining episodes. Donten ni Warau was a pretty good adaptation. Maybe a bit rushed in the last 2/3 episodes, but overall it did what it had to do. Denki-gai no Honya-san was the most random thing ever. It had me laugh in the end when the Kantoku character cosplayed as Kirito from SAO. Both characters share the same voice actor so basically the kid was cosplaying himself. As for Akame ga Kill

Don't ask me how I've kept up with Diamond no Ace all this time but here I am. And it hit my feels today

While I do like the release, I think that out of their three albums it's the weakest one. I love Black Rail, and the title track isn't bad either, but apart from that there's not really anything that sticks while I did have this with the previous releases.

What I do love is that it's obvious Hiroki keeps getting better and better, and I hope they'll continue to reinvent themselves with ever single release so that they'll fall into their best niche one day. Them sounding like OOR doesn't bother me too much, but I hope they at least stick to a more alternative version of them and don't become and exact copy. No matter how much I love both brothers and their bands, Hiroki isn't anywhere near Taka just yet.

Congratulations! You have realized how shallow the depths of visual-kei is. Now feel free to look beyond the lake that is visual kei and move into the ocean of alternative J-music.
    [/sarcasm]
But in all honesty, the reason why we split the download forums into two is precisely because of users like you - people that tire of visual kei music but not necessarily Japanese music and are looking for a bit more. Don't limit yourself because of labels or phenomena or "omg what would zess think!?!?!". If you don't like visual kei anymore, look elsewhere. I guarantee you there's plenty of music in Japan alone to keep you occupied.

Kaye reacted to doombox in #11: UNTIL THE END by coldrain
Artist: coldrain Album: UNTIL THE END Score: coldrain are fighting for international attention, but are they ready? Hailing from Nagoya, coldrain is a five piece band that over the last few years has found itself stepping out of Japan's alternative rock scene and into the global post hardcore market. Most recently, they've spent their time recording with notorious hit-maker David Bendeth. coldrain are the type of band who hit the ground running seven years ago and have no visible intent on stopping any time soon.

coldrain crack open this mini album with some stereotypical teen angst lyrics on "AWARE AND AWAKE". Moving past that, the music has a nice groove to it. The time-signature changes and the transitions from heavy verses to arena-rock choruses show small hints of the band's diversity. However, the entire song is quite cookie cutter, predictable, and falls into mediocrity. I can imagine this serves well as an introduction to new listeners who may not know quite what coldrain are capable of. It's wrapped in an easy to grasp package with all the mainstays of mainstream metalcore virtues. If you enjoyed this song, then the rest of the album will bode well for you, but if you're long-time fan, it might leave much to be desired. "EVOLVE" blasts you in the face with much more intricate guitar work straight away. Just when you expect to hear a standard post-hardcore chorus, the song teases you with a sludgy bridge first, which at least is a step in the right direction. This track shows more diversity in the first minute than the previous track en masse and sounds infinitely more brutal- partially due to Katsuma's solid double bass drum work. "AWARE AND AWAKE" sounds whiny and weak in comparison. Lyrically, "YOU LIE" treads familiar territory that other songs on this album have already covered, but it's much more emotional and bears a stronger alternative rock influence that gives contrast to the bridges and breakdowns. This song proves that sometimes less is more, and band's needn't reinvent the wheel to remain poignant and connect with the audience.

"FADE AWAY" has a fun, fast-paced, bouncy feel and is the high point of this EP, even if the lyrics are contrary to the atmosphere. This feels like the major crowd pleaser on the record and could easily fuel some fierce circle pits. It also carries the album's most infectious chant-along mantra, "until the end, you never learned, you never learned what it means to love". The band 'chooses their moments', so to speak, with the sparing breakdowns to retain a strong momentum throughout the song. They do a good job of keeping things from becoming monotonous by injecting a monstrous breakdown instead of the default pop formula ending that repeats the chorus into oblivion. Opening with an emotive, squealing guitar, "MARCH ON" is another strong showing. This track ushers in some restrained verses and continues the album's theme of chanted vocals, making this song's title easy to remember. The song builds on solid guitar work and explodes into machine gun riffing before the breakdown (which is unfortunately located at the exact same place as the previous song). The interesting guitar effects from the intro return to add dimension to the end and transitions nicely to the next song. "HOUSE OF CARDS" starts slow and sultry, with a lonely resonating bass line and a delayed piano effect that sounds both haunting and seductive. Drums fill in the hollows of the second half, and by the time the instruments have gelled together, most of the song has already passed you by. The last chorus feels like it slips through your fingers, all too soon, as it returns itself to an echoing wisp of notes. Normally I take issue with ending mini albums on somber notes, but this one leaves us with a great cliffhanger for the next release.

UNTIL THE END does as much right as it does wrong and it's hard to say who I would specifically recommend this release to when it comes down to new or old fans. They did the smart thing and tacked these songs onto the deluxe edition of their previous album, The Revelation, for international fans. The variety in the tracklist feels like the band wanted to show all of their strengths in the short number of tracks, but it also brought some glaring weaknesses to light. As for strengths, it really plays on Masato being one of the few English singing Japanese vocalists who was raised bi-lingual from birth. His English is about as perfect as you'll find in this scene. The band has a great pop sensibility and knows how to change with the times; being one of the few bands that has actually gotten heavier as they've gained popularity. Regardless, the major weakness of this album is the stale and formulaic songwriting. One of the pitfalls of having good pop sensibilities is the double-edge of sticking to the cookie cutter format of pop songs. The moments when this album gambles on mixing up that formula are when it truly starts kicking some ass.

^ Yes you don't have to express why you don't like something specifically, that's your choice, but if you don't back up your opinion and just say you don't like it because it's "bad" without explaining what is so bad about it, then it just sounds like you're hating on something for the sake of hating on it... Not saying that is the case, but you can't blame somebody for coming to that conclusion when you are so against discussing what you find "bad" about the show. After all this is technically an anime discussion mega topic.

I've been pretty busy lately, but I've been able to start a few new shows this season. Although there's still a lot I need get to xD The most noteworthy are; Akatsuki no Yona, Amagi Brilliant Park, Denki-gai no Honya-san, Donten ni Warau, Gugure! Kokkuri-san.
