  1. @Tokage don't forget self-asphyxiation. i swear it's just high level massage tech tho. I'm also pretty sure you're right on about drugs and alcohol although I left those out since I was focusing mostly on viral diseases. The mental ones are much harder to spot.

I was referencing Kyo with sudden deafness. The story is he was performing on stage when his right timpani suddenly burst. I imagine there were warning signs before hand. If there weren't, that's even crazier.

Has anyone noticed how many artists in the VK scene die of brain aneurisms? Strange sicknesses? I always thought it was strange, and not the whole truth- maybe the other members were covering for suicides or something. Has anyone ever noticed this?

Are we sure this isn't confirmation bias? Visual kei musicians tend to be younger. Are the younger people dying from strange sicknesses more often, or is it that that we tend to remember the ones who died? We must go deeper!

There have been a few musicians that have died that's left me wondering what happened. Jasmine You of course is one, but there was another death recently that I chalked up to cancer but never got a straight answer out of. Probably never will. In this regard, I never understood Japanese culture when it came to grieving a lost one. I understand the pain and loss of having to bury your son, but fans want closure too. Half the time fans aren't allowed at the actual ceremony or given any real details as to what happened, so we're left to form our own vigils and cry together. To chalk that off as not frustrating isn't being truthful to myself. But if I were in that situation, I wouldn't share causes of death because that opens up the door to more questioning, scrutiny, and criticism. There's always that asshole out there that has to make "bird flu" or "gay disease" jokes even when we don't know why and the band/family/management doesn't want to deal with that. Which is fair, but doesn't resolve my curiosity.

Now let's pour out some tea for a second. You are hitting on something important rather vaguely if you expand your original question to just illnesses. Visual kei musicians come down with the weirdest diseases including:

    • aneurysms
    • sub cranial hemorrhages
    • brain cancer
    • sudden deafness
    • pneumonia
    • heart failure at 32

There's a longer list than this. Ever roll your eyes reading news and go "I have never heard of this disease before HOW?". Good to know I'm not the only one. I totally think the way the scene is set up and the way the artists are taken advantage up sets them up to contract these chronic illnesses. This is where Japanese culture and karoshi comes in a little, but I think it's even simpler than that. Bands who are almost always in a shaky situation financially may not want to rock the boat in any direction. Exploitative labels who work their bands to death don't want to look bad. Perhaps even a band member wants to separate his on-stage persona from his personal life and admitting to his fans that he will die shatters the visual kei illusion of timelessness and youthful exuberance? I'm not too sure. Not that visual kei musicians are immune to freak diseases, but some of these sicknesses have to be stress-induced or stress-related. I can think of a lot of people who wouldn't want others poking into the depths of how the scene works. There's some things there we probably don't want to know.

zakurogata no yuuutsu is so great

The GazettE song? Let's do a battle of words for I never liked that song. Something about Ruki's nasally vocals turned me off. I've always been low key pissed they chose Zakurogata over Zetsu or even Miseinen for DISORDER. Two of those still are some of their best singles to me and they get no love. Maybe they play Miseinen once in a while but Zetsu is a rarity.

  4. Sounds like I need to get on the TAMTAM wave.

I loved Silence's debut from earlier this year but I couldn't conjure the words to describe it. I had the same problem with their debut EP. Wonderful release, and totally deserves a review and more attention, so I'm glad we were able to kick the list off with a bang. Unfortunately I am unfamiliar with Belle but the preview was nice so I'll dig into them a bit further as well.

that basically is what we always do in eu and nothing bad happen ( unless u do disorders ) ( maybe not public urination on weed.... maybe on alcohol :V ) but " hey that's japan " so i guess he have to know where the " limit is " . rip akinori's musical carrer?

We have to wait until charges are fully announced. This is a perfect reason why you smoke first and don't carry.

So at least? what akinori did? Just was high or what? i do not understand. Someone up there posted he was exchaning drugs.. is he a drugs dealer? Or he just was high and be asshole with cops? pls answer me xD

    btw Vk2016drama is :panic:

No one knows for sure. Allow me to give you my interpretation.

I don't think he was a drug dealer. If he were dealing drugs, lynch. would have dropped him almost immediately and went on hiatus. Every single visual kei band I've ever witnessed deal with a member possessing a notable amount of drugs resolved it by kicking that member out almost immediately. lynch. did not respond this way, and so far all sources point to drugs, so I think he got caught with a bit of weed while doing something stupid like public urination (due to drunkenness?). This is all conjecture though.

    Drugs huh?!

Well, Japan is really anti drugs isn't?

Well, who knows they give us more information... please keep us updated!

Yep. I remember a similar situation with L'arc and their drummer Sakura. He got caught doing drugs and it almost ended the band's momentum back then. They even had singles pulled off the shelves! The Japanese don't play with drugs and if I had to guess, I think he was caught with them on his person and not necessarily intoxicated. My guess are pills.

While the report has created a frenzy on the internet, Park's office said the pills were bought to potentially treat altitude sickness for presidential aides and employees on Park's May trips to Ethiopia, Uganda and Kenya, whose capitals are 1 to 2 kilometres (0.6 to 1.2 miles) above sea level.

The pills weren't used, said Jung Youn-kuk, a Blue House spokesman. South Korean doctors sometimes prescribe Viagra-style drugs to climbers because they are believed to be effective in preventing altitude sickness.

The presidential office also purchased a variety of injection drugs used for fatigue and anti-aging treatment, according to the office of lawmaker Kim Sanghee. Park's spokesman explained that the presidential office purchases drugs for the president's entire staff including security officers.

^ Why do you think they'll disband?

That's the trend. Bands who lose members and go quiet usually disband quietly as well. We could devote a thread to examples of it. I surely hope they recruit new members, but the time to do that is when the iron is hot, so to say. If they don't have anyone by now that means they're finding it hard to find someone and that's bad news.

On another note my mood keeps shifting between extreme euphoria and depression with fits of anger thrown in. Can't count the number of times this week alone I've had to mentally restrain myself from saying or doing something really bad. And it's only Tuesday.

A powerful earthquake rocked northern Japan on Tuesday, the Japan Meteorological Agency said, generating a tsunami that hit the same northern Pacific coast devastated by a massive quake, tsunami and nuclear disaster in 2011.

The earthquake, which was felt in Tokyo, had a preliminary magnitude of 7.3 and was centered off the coast of Fukushima prefecture at a depth of about 10 km (6 miles), the agency said.

A tsunami of up to 1 meter (3 feet) had been observed around Fukushima following the quake which struck at 5:59 a.m. (3.59 p.m. ET), public broadcaster NHK said, after warning of waves of up to 3 meters (10 feet) has been issued.

All nuclear plants on the coast threatened by the tsunami are shutdown in the wake of the March 2011 disaster, which knocked out Tokyo Electric Power Co's Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant, spilling radiation into the air and sea.

No other damage from the quake has been confirmed at any of its power plants, although there have been blackouts in some areas, the spokeswoman added.

    Not again...

Wow, that's... quite a voice. I do like it, however, but mostly I just like their look. Their name also reminds me of IX -Nine-, though it might just be coincidence.

I came to say the same thing. Even the vocals are sketch just like IX -NINE-. Production quality of that clip could use some work it sounds like the producer scooped out the low end for no reason.

I didn't heard about nintendo bricking consoles, that's a dick move

    TOMORROW GOING TO ALOLA!

What you described is their way of bricking the console. They ban your account and any 3DS it connects to and it's legal because we agreed to it in the Terms and Services we didn't read. If you take some time to read it one day you'll realize Nintendo is the Apple of video gaming industry. So much control over their devices and such a closed ecosystem, and not too much variety but enough to get by.

What.cd, an invite-only music torrent website first launched in 2007, has been shut down after a raid by French authorities. The private tracker offered free (and often illegal) access to a massive, deeply thorough collection of music and was popular among audiophiles for its strict rules around quality and file formats.

    Quote

What.cd staked its name on staggering choice, a passionate community of users, and helpful tools for discovering new music. You could download the latest hot releases in MP3, or pull up an obscure, rare album from a lesser-known artist and probably find it available in lossless FLAC. The artists and albums absent from this or that streaming service were always present on What (again, so long as you didn’t mind stealing music).

Here's the message left on their website

    Quote

"Due to some recent events, What.CD is shutting down. We are not likely to return any time soon in our current form. All site and user data has been destroyed. So long, and thanks for all the fish."
