sai reacted to Zeus in How far would you go in hating/disliking a band because of its fans?
I posted this once before. I'll post the relevant portion again in case you somehow missed it.

You want to know what the real issue is? Too many people care too much about what other people think about their opinions. This mix of neediness and constant validation that manifests on last.fm and other social media is sickening and it's a negative reinforcement feedback cycle. People don't feel like what they say holds salt unless someone backs them up, so they don't speak their mind. Since they parrot someone else's opinion, they never share their own because no one backs them up on it. I can't count how many times I personally have walked into a conversation, shared my opinion which was the opposite of the general consensus, and watched as it quickly became the popular consensus because so many other people felt the same way but everyone was too afraid to say something.

What does this have to do with liking/disliking a band based on its fans? EVERYTHING! So many times I hear people say that they don't like MEJIBRAY or the GazettE or Dir en grey because of how the fans act, but they've not listened to the band enough to form a coherent argument of their own beyond that. It's almost universally covering for some other reason that said person doesn't want to divulge, which is (usually) that they don't want to be judged for liking or disliking something so many other "stupid" people like.

Guess what? At the end of the day, it doesn't matter. Like what you like. Dislike what you dislike. Your preferences have no bearing on how valid your argument or opinion is. That speaks for itself.

Oh, great idea for a thread Champ!

I haven't played too much Skyrim yet, so I can't really say that much about the OST. I agree on Venice Rooftops though, love it!

Ratonhnhaké:ton from Assassin's Creed 3: The Tyranny of King Washington is just gorgeous.

I really liked fighting in the pub as Haytham in AC3 because of the awesome background music Fight Club, so I did that a lot!

Also Final Fantasy XIII's battle theme was really rad:

Same with FFXIII-2's paradigm shift theme (horrible game, kick-ass soundtrack):

I'll probably think of some more later, haha.

Unpopular opinion #457 I don’t think Deluhi is/was that great of a band. I don’t get all the hype surrounding their music. I think they had some okay/good songs which I enjoyed, I just don’t get all the praise the band gets, especially on this forum. Is it because they were a fairly decent vk band and the majority of other vk bands were so crappy that they made Deluhi sound amazing by comparison and lead to their music being overhyped? I wouldn’t be surprised if this was the case, which I believe also happened when Mejibary came along. Although Mejibary have been getting better.

Anyway,  Leda was probably the best part of Deluhi and he definitely raised the bar for other vk guitarists, but I find the band to just be decent. They never put out anything amazing or what I would expect from advanced players/composers to put out. I feel the parts were greater than its sum when it comes to this band. So yeah, I can’t share the OMG Deluhi was so amazing they should get back together mentality.

    1. Gackt - Missing
    2. 東京事変 - 秘密
    3. Girls' Generation - Stay Girls
    4. SHINee - Dazzling Girl
    5. Kagrra, - 恋綴魂
    6. Lorne Balfe - Risking Everything
    7. 東方神起 - ANDROID
    8. DEAD END - Dress Burning
    9. Lorne Balfe - Laying Up The Trap
    10. NICO Touches the Walls - 恋をしよう

Lots of Japanese K-pop on this one, lol. Normally I would go with NICO, but tbqh the 東方神起 song is just really really catchy and fun. Tokyo Jihen comes in second, as I haven't really gotten into them yet.

No matter how much we love our favourite artists, there is always that one (or more releases, depending on personal opinions) release which we just can't enjoy, isn't up to par with the rest of their material or is just so plain bad that we wished it had never been printed to disc, mainly because it just stains their entire discography. This is not limited to VK by the way, all Japanese rock counts! This also isn't limited to releases that you considered 'bad'. Mediocre or just general underwhelming releases count too.

This can be a whole release, like a single/mini/album, or if you can't think of those, just individual songs that ruined otherwise great releases (that one song that kept you from giving it five stars).

I'll start with BUCK-TICK's Yumemiru Uchuu. Even though this album isn't BAD, it's certainly their weakest album yet and apart from a few catchy tracks there is nothing particularly interesting going on, as in most of the previous albums. I find it a bit of a stain on their otherwise fantastic album discography.

Next up, lynch.' INFERIORITY COMPLEX. I liked a total of 2 tracks off this album, of which one was a single. The EXODUS EP excluded, I've digged every lynch. release so far, but INFERIORITY COMPLEX was just a really weak album imo that just put me off for quite a bit of time. It felt like it wasn't ready yet, if you know what I mean.

    Anyway, let loose!

sai got a reaction from CAT5 in THE JAPANESE ELECTRONICA THREAD
As Aion started one for folk, I'm starting one for electronics! I know Pandabear made a similar thread in Global for all electronic-related music, but I'd like to specify this to instrumental electronics (though some occasional vocals for effect are ok), if you catch my drift. Anyway, to give a few examples and therefore immediately favourites:

    ESNO

ESNO basically mixes jazz elements with electronics and the result is his debut album Visionary, released last year. CAT has it in his best of 2012 list, might you be looking for more samples.

    M-Koda

All his stuff got deleted off YT recently so this was all that I could find that is fairly recent. M-Koda's tunes are just really ambient and you probably need to be in the mood for this, but I can really recommend checking the album out he released this year, great stuff!

    Ametsub

I find Ametsub's stuff hard to describe as he does a bit of everything when it comes to electronics, though I'd probably put him closer to M-Koda than other electronic artists I know. It's ambient, though a bit more upbeat than M-Koda's stuff.

    Jimanica

I actually really didn't like his last album because the distorted vocals are just not my thing, but this song off the album greatly impressed me. If you don't mind the vocals, I'd say go for it.

I'd love to hear your contributions!

What just came to my mind (in fact, you might describe this as "an ode to self-criticism"):

Many music listeners base most of their critiques on "BAND/SONG X sounds like BAND/SONG Y - THAT'S WHY THEY ARE BAD!!!11!" - which is just plain dumb.

Oh yes, consider me a sinner in this case too - I have been way enthusiastic about "my essentials sounding like new essentials" and so on, BUT IN THE END:

It's execution (and consistency) what matters.

For instance, I could say that Gazette's Hyena is totally superior to Luna Sea's G. (the former takes a lot of traits off the latter, and thus it has caused some havoc among ripoff enthusiasts) due to the fact that latter
is not really that able to maintain listeners' interest for long (especially during chorus). Perhaps the execution wasn't that interesting? Eat your heart out, Luna Sea stans - the band itself is brilliant, I agree, but it doesn't mean that younger, influenced generation couldn't be better.

Also, Dir's Gauze album - no matter the fact that the whole album itself might be an "old school vk cover parade" (I can go on and on with "ripoffs" but who cares?), these "open covers" are much more "oomph-inducing" than their original, probably a bit lousier counterparts - because their execution and consistency was considered carefully and done well.

Let's cream the top with Sadie too - no matter how many years, releases and singles have passed by - there's always some enthusiastic Dir elitist bunch calling  to arms for them "sounding very DEG-ish" (at parts - yes, ONLY AT PARTS.). Well guess what, NO SHIT - they were heavily influenced by Dir, so of course their music might induce some odd "Dir nostalgia". The only problematic matter is that how messy and not carefully executed their releases were lately. From considered "build" in COLD BLOOD to sloppiness of BLACK DIAMONDS and MADRIGAL DE MARIA? The heck, Mao and co. - thus, they are faulty only on that matter.

And in examples below, there isn't really any "note-to-note" action  - so no reasons for suing the shit out of them!

I really hope that whole "ripoff ripoff ripoff!!!"-fad is just a phase, just like it was for me. I carefully rethought my actions on how I should see music from now on, and this kind of view freed me from "musical limits", which I am really happy about.

I don't like them either but I think some people *hate* them to just try and overcompensate how true indie VK they are and just simply because they're popular. I mostly mean the fans that rant about how awful they are but then go listen to MEJIBRAY or some other copy pasta band and rave about how amazing and original they are.

Basically the same as Zess' thread, but this time you're going to have to recommend good ol' me releases. I've been suffering from a lack of new music lately, so I'm going to give you guys a change to impress me with good stuff. Why am I doing this as well?
I think I'm more hilarious than Zess and I need to prove this. I will probably get zero responses to this so please do not make me look like a douche. I always have to smile when I see people being all passionate about artists/releases they like so I decided that it's perhaps nice to join people in this. Same rules: the first five people here who recommend me full length-albums that I do not already know will get a review by me in the review thread. I promise it will not include any silly gifs as in my usual reviews.

    - One release per person.
    - Must be Japanese.
    - No metalcore. I really really do not like metalcore, recommending me metalcore albums will not get you anywhere because I won't be able to listen to it and give an objective opinion.
    - It would be appreciated if you could send me a link to the release through PM.

For the reast, there are no limitations!
