    Re-playing Kingdom Hearts in preparation for the third one. The first KH has an awful camera and some insanely bad level design lol I'll be glad to never look at it again. On the plus side, it's very interesting to see how the series had a jump in improvement from the first to the second game and without a doubt, the third one will be amazing. The other games are usually just copypasted and dumbed down versions of the main ones, apart from Chain of Memories and Birth By Sleep which stand out in their own way.

    Have you played the 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue on the PS4 yet? The new mechanics they implemented in there were pretty fun.

    I'd have to agree with the horrible camera for the first one. I'd be in the middle of battle and I wouldn't be able to see where I was because the camera decided to do its own thing. Birth By Sleep was also quite entertaining with its versatile battle options.

    I started Ys 8 on the switch last week and it's really addicting. I love how well easily combat flows, exploration is fun(not overwhelming like a lot of modern games) and while it won't win any awards, the writing is decent to passable; anime tropes are present for sure, thankfully there's more to it the characters and they're mostly tolerable so far. There's a decent variety of things to do and it all gels really well and feels cohesive. I don't have a lot of negative to say about this game, graphics will be an issue for some as they are late ps2/early ps3 quality but personally I find them serviceable when in handheld mode. I tried playing docked for an hour and all of the games graphical issues are exacerbated, shading in certain areas has those blocky ps1 textures that looked bad in the 90's and slowdown becomes a problem. I've heard that the switch port is the worst in that regard though, so it's probably less of an issue on ps4/steam. I'm not too far into it, so who knows it could fall apart, but so far this is the best arpg I've played in a long time.

    Just curious, do you need to have played the other games in the series? I've only managed to play YS Celceta, and I quite liked it.

  5. Cool! The line up looks interesting. Wish I could see them play live ;_;

  6. I saw it mentioned before, but I second Wolf's Rain. I saw this anime when I was young and it flew right over my head. Seeing it more recently, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The music was beautiful (composed by Yoko Kanno) and the story was captivating to watch unfold despite the ending. The color and scenery is dark, dank, and dismal, which perfectly fit with a world in despair. The show left with lots to ponder about, and I loved seeing the characters realistically develop without being too cheesy or cliche. The anime is far from a rosy, happy series, but it's one worth watching at least once.

    I saw others mention Death Note, and I agree. Despite its popularity among the younger crowd, I believe the series manages to digs deep into human psyche and examines some very dark themes encapsulated within the term, 'justice'. I saw the Ghost in the Shell movie mentioned earlier. I also think the series, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, is good as well. It's not the exact same as the movie, but it has its own merits as well. It explores, more than once, what it means to be a human in a world where cybernetics and robotics become more prevalent. The series lacked characterization for many of the teammates on Sector 9, but the script was well-written and it wasn't a typical fighting/action series with tons of blood and gore everywhere. But when the fighting happened, it was exciting to watch.

  7. I started reading Akatsuki no Yona and Ao no Exorcist from the beginning. I think so far they are both engaging and entertaining. Each series has a main character who struggles and finds ways to deal with their circumstances, and there are plenty of colorful, interesting support characters and intriguing villains. I think they are both on-going series, but it'll take me some time to catch up so I'm not too worried about arriving at a cliffhanger yet 😅

  8. Just started watching the series, Death Parade. I'm about half way through, and I think it has an interesting premise. I'm most curious as to how it will end even though I've read that the show leaves the viewer with more questions than answers.

    Most anime series touch upon the subject of death, but Death Parade (as the title implies) squarely deals with this subject front-and-center. In fact, death becomes a tool, allowing the show to explore the depths of human morality in a very psychological way: Are humans innately good or bad creatures? In other respects, the series forces us to ask: What would we do in extremely and terrifying situations? Or rather, what should we do when confronted with a bizarre yet horrible experience? What happens to our minds when we're pushed to the edge?

    Majority of the episodes start out the following way: Two people get sent to the Quindecim and, together, the pair must play a game (bowling, darts, etc.) to decide who will win or lose. If the participants don't play, then they will face absolute death. (The whole premise is quite ironic and the outcome hardly matters. That's the real kicker.) As of now, one of my favorite episodes has to be the comical one (episode six). I know it contributes the least to the whole plot, but the episode provides a window into a different atmosphere and reveals how other arbiters handle their 'guests'. All the other episodes are equally touching and fascinating to watch, but this one flipped my expectations. It took a serious matter and handled it in a humorous manner while still diving into the heart-wrenching emotions of each participant.

    Aside from the animation, I admire the writing, which can handle the topic of death with solemnity and levity. Death Parade manages to dig deep into the human psyche and make us question as to what exactly entails a human being. At the same time, it doesn't fail to be cracking hilarious. There are some shows where the tone sails one way, but Death Parade is one - so far - that has legitimately made me feel empathy and hilarity without any restraint. Sadly, I can't help but sense that the other characters who work in Quindecim (besides the main pairing) will get shortchanged - as far as character development is concerned - because of how short the series is. But I'll be patiently waiting to see otherwise.

    I'm not an animator or artist by any stretch, but I like the animation quality especially during the fighting sequence between Viginti and Decim - that was beautiful. I didn't expect Death Parade to have an action scene, but I was left in my seat with wanting more. The music is great, too. I've read that lots of people enjoyed the opening, and it's definitely got an upbeat, fun quality despite the overall somber inflection within the show.

    (Whoa, I wrote way too much o_o; I'm going to stop now and finish watching the rest of the series XD)
