The thing about a hiatus is that it signifies more than wanting to take a break. Visual kei is an exception, but when bands want to take breaks they typically...don't record music. MEJIBRAY have done their fair share of that the last few months, and visual kei bands are always looking to their future activities, so I'm wondering if this pause is them deciding if they really want to disband or not. I wouldn't be surprised if they announce a return just to break up formally.

I'm not sad to see them go, as I was over their style a while ago. Still, a pillar of the neo-vk scene is crumbling this is really big.

i hope they never fucking come back! good riddance mejibray have long ran their course, there's nothing they can release that will ever be good again bc they've literally done all possible variations on "mejibray"
 
koichi needs to front an oshare band signed on resistar that will shit all over buglug...spiv states style
mia needs to join a power metal/jupiter core band that will use his talents and actually challenge him instead of letting him continue to plateau
meto can become a fulltime harajuku fashion icon bc hes not that good gorl
tsuzuku needs a sukekiyo or dir en grey tier experimental metal project to DESTROY all remnants of visual kei with his perfection

Am I the only one, who's not surprised? They've been releasing way too much, their music just sounds the same all the time, it feels like they're out of new ideas. A break will be good for them, because they've been too busy with shit. I highly doubt they would announce a hiatus if they were going to disband, stop being such drama queens.

Ah, this must be extremely devastating news for him.  I really hope he makes a safe, full recovery. It really shows how what you do now will affect you in the future; take care of your body and health, etc.

Is Acid Black Cherry considered VIsual Kei? If so, they are the first VK band I called my favorite.
 
First favorite band was L'Arc but they sure aren't vk lol

My first favorites were Malice Mizer and Baiser. I was OBSESSED with Malice Mizer until they went on a permanent hiatus. I'm still sad I'll never see them live, but I did get a small bit of closure being Kozi and Yu~ki perform as guests with Moi Dix Mois. I don't feel like Malice's sound has aged well, so I rarely listen to their CDs anymore nor would I call them my fave now, but every now and then I like to play Ma Cherie or Bara no Seidou and get wrapped up in the nostalgia.
 
I think there was less choice in having a "first favorite" back then, because at the time fans mostly had to rely on foreign gya or music enthusiasts in Japan to share it via Napster/IRC. So whatever you got your hands on was likely to become your "first favorite". Or you might go through the scans that were on Paradoxical Reality and then try to find songs of whatever bands looked interesting via music sharing platforms.

I think Kaya is grossly underrated. I don't care for most of his music due to it not being my taste, but his range is out of this world. There are some songs that he's released that really blow me away--the piano version of Last Snow comes to my mind immediately--but there are a handful of others that showcase his talent and it really does bother me that he's not more popular, or at the very least, more recognised.

I'd actually say Asagi is underrated, since people seem to prefer Kamijo over him, despite Kamijo's vocal ability not being as outstanding.
 
Depends on who you ask though. If you take the average facebook dwelling VK fan then Ruki, Yoshiatsu and Tsuzuku are vastly overrated.
 
Jui (ex Vidoll) as quite an unique voice and very good vocal ability, even if he doesn't sing as well now, he is still underrated imo

What kind of vaporware do you like? I recently started listening to more of it and I'm always up for recommendations. ^^

I’ve been lurking for quite a while but finally decided to make an account. I just hope that I’ll actually get around to posting, I’m pretty shy.
 
I’ve been listening to VKei for over a decade (eleven years, to be technical), but my tastes as of late seemed to have jumped into a time machine; I used to be very diligent about keeping up with new or modern bands, but over the last couple years or so, I’ve been backtracking into more ~*old school*~ artists and I have a hard time keeping up with everything going on now. Which isn’t necessarily bad, I love what I listen to, but I’m hoping to find new stuff and expand my horizons yay etc. I found out about DADAROMA and MORRIGAN, bands I'm loving, from lurking around here, so I'm hopeful. 
 
Off the top of my head, some stuff I dig: Malice Mizer (because of course), AMADEUS, CANARY, Eliphas Levi, RENTRER EN SOI, NOi’X, Sleep My Dear, L’eprica, sibilebashir, Grieva, Madeth Gray'll, MIRAGE, UnsraW (RIP my sons), Gallo, MORE, sukekiyo, etc.
 
Outside of that, I like a lot of Japanese indie (new and old), v a p o r w a v e, metalcore and djent, hip-hop, jrock in general… it’s a mixed bag. 
 
But yeah! I look forward to seeing you guys around and actually interacting.
