I find it unnerving that if you're in a 90s vk band that happened to be making dreadful music you could still gloriously play this "sincerity" or "passion" card; but if you're doing well in today's vk scene suddenly it's all because you have great bells and whistles + good at being a shameless sellout because, alas, you've arrived 10 years late and the ethereal spirit of vk no longer permeates your soul.

Everyone always says that there are more shitty bands recently....every genre/music scene around the world has plenty of shitty bands in them. And like...I'm pretty sure there were also a ton of shit bands in 90s VK...back when it was all magical and perfect, blah blah.
 
I've been a fan of VK for a long time and I still love some old bands but I also love some new bands. I think now more than ever people in VK can express themselves more freely.  Instead of back then where it was all kinda....the same :/ Now bands are taking more chances and trying out new things; everyone be like, EW MY GOD IT'S HORRIBLEzzzzz.
 
But yeah I can totally see people not really into it anymore because it's stressful as fuck haha ;D

That's a lot of generalizations derived from an outsider looking in on an ecosystem that is highly highly contorted due to distance.

i fell in love with vk through bands like deadman, studs, dir en grey, d'espairsray, malice mizer, sugar, rentrer en soi, tgads, emmuree, amber gris, 9goats, lynch. so it was kind of frustrating when i joined here to find bands that sounded like those and there were none. i ended up opening my mind a little and instead of thinking of "metalcore" bands as a guilty pleasure i started to genuinely enjoy their heaviness and sugar-sweet choruses. mind you, if these bands weren't visual i wouldn't listen to them but i still am kind of fond of them. because of this i've opened my mind to groups like nega, unsraw, kuroyuri to kage, dezert, avelcain, grieva, the black swan, D.I.D., MBHI etc, all of which i enjoy quite a bit.
so vk is still awesome for me, i've just had to adjust a little.

^That's all about taste. Like all the people who are butthurt it's not the 80s anymore and still listen to the same albums from then. VK hasn't gotten 'shitty' it's just so many people stick with what they know and don't like change.
 
Like all music, VK changes and to me, it still lives up to its main appeal and forever kicks ass.

While there are some valid points most of this is turned up to 10. It's exaggerated to the point of no return.
 
Though, I must say, dropping that much on bands? Yeah. It's true. 
 
And of course every band is different. Most people I know have not been attacked at lives. I have had one girl knock into me during mosh because she is possessive but most of the time it's all very civil. It depends on the band though, a grieva fan when moshing slammed into my arm that had a brace on it. 
 
As for gyaku dai, if you are prepared, it generally doesn't hurt that much. If not, what happened to suuu could happen to anyone, especially if the bar isn't padded.
 
I've never really been attacked or felt like I was in danger. I've had my name mentioned or "that foreigner" on tanuki but it was never a big deal. I've never felt a need to hide my social media and never really tried too hard to hide my face in photos. For girls much more heavily involved in the scene tho it is something to consider--the internet bullying.
 
But really there's so much more interesting and great stuff about this scene than "these girls attack you!!" And let's be real: mosh pits in the west are far more dangerous than anything I've witnessed at a vk live. 
 
Shitty musicians exist anywhere. Musicians who sleep with fans exist anywhere.

western gya don't like yohio because he's kind of a wanker, there's a lot of funny gossip about him all over the web (including an alleged dick pic lmao). as disposal mentioned, it greatly seems that he made it so far in sweden and japan simply because of his dad's connections and because of that he looks a lot worse in everyone's eyes. thats the trend, few westerners make it in jp as a vk-related act solely through money and connections, which eclipses their talent for the most part. disreign is an exception though, i think thats surprisingly decent gaze-worship.
so we have someone who fucks around, is mostly a giant poser and probably wouldn't be anywhere close to where he currently is without his dad's money, compared to everyone in japan who has (for the most part) fought for their place in the scene. im sure you can imagine why he'd leave a bad taste in some people's mouths.

Well that's my explanation. I'm not interested because he is not Japanese.
I'm only interested in Japanese bands with Japanese vocalist. vocal need to be Japanese.

I see Aoshi after XAA-XAA a lot handing out flyers (they're always perfumed LOL) and one time i was joking like "tsunagaritai" as we were walking away and we did the hand sign and then we turned around and there he was standing so seriously with his hand up doing the sign and so I did CLAP CLAP CLAP "TSUNAGARITAI" and aoshi died laughing
