  1. Older GazettE was better than newer GazettE. Even though they had lower budget production, they were more creative and unique back then

I think the GazettE are very skilled musicians who have either become lazy to make anything that I haven't heard over and over, or they're getting artist block a ton. Either that or Sony told Ruki not to trill his Rs xD. I mean, they went from almost all their music having a parental advisory, to literally no lyric warnings on the CD covers. That says a lot about how they've changed..

Also, Wagakki band in my opinion is overrated. I used to love them, but they pulled an MCR, going from heavy to poppy really quick. Also, Yuko's vocals have too much post production on them, making them sound a bit overpolished, which someone as skilled of a vocalist as her, shouldn't need polishing. She's truly an amazing vocalist, but you'd only hear her true skills in Hanafugetsu, not Wagakki. Also, sometimes, the music can get a bit cacophonous with all the instruments trying to play different parts at once. Like, there is an easy way to fix this: don't make every part so complex. It is ok to have the Koto, Shamisen, Shakuhachi and Taiko parts simple.  Also, I think they've gotten too popular. I mean, you have these fangirls now who think Wagakki is so special, saying "They were the first Japanese folk metal band!", and "Yuko's lyric writing in Tengaku is so amazing!". Like, Wagakki Band's covers have gotten more popular than the original, to the point where people think Wagakki actually wrote the songs. Also, there have been other bands mixing traditional Japanese and Metal for a LONG time. Bands like Onmyouza, Kiryu, Memento Mori, Whispered, Ningen Isu, etc. Heck, Kurona used to be in a Vkei band called CrowXClass (My first ever Vkei band I got into) and they used traditional Japanese instruments, and on their only EP, had 2 metal songs, and had even more live. And really, with how poppy Wagakki has gotten, I don't think they should represent Japanese folk metal. Kiryu or Onmyouza would be better representatives. Though, Ningen Isu is the oldest out of the ones I've mentioned, they're style of folk metal is not in the instruments, but in the composition and vocals. Plus, they're more of the first EroguroKei band.

Also, and finally, Vkei was always full of clones, especially in the 90's. In the early 90's, there were a TON of X Japan clones. Then, in the mid 90's, it seemed as if everyone wanted to start doing a mix of Alternative Rock, Gothic Rock, Alternative Metal and New Wave. And also you had the Kuroyume sound-a-likes and clones. Dir En Grey's early stuff being kinda like that (Even though I still enjoyed it). And almost any Metal that was played in the 90's, was either Gothic Metal, or Thrash Influenced Alt. Metal. And every single song had to have a chorused guitar, playing the same 3 notes... You did have a few bands that went outside the norms, but it wasn't until 2001 that you had a rise in Vkei bands play more Punk rock, Nu Metal and a little bit of pop rock and such, finally doing something different than what filled the scene before. Also, there were a ton of crappy bands in the 90's. In fact, since they couldn't clean everything up in the mix, it often sounded crappier.

    Just a little correction:

    万 (man) - 10,000

    千 (sen) - 1000

And yeah, probably won't be very controversional. At least not in Japan or with vk-fans but we all know this is nothing that the mainstream media or w/e will know about anyway.

First thing that comes to mind when I see that symbol btw:

Ah, thanks for correcting me xD.

This is why I shouldn't be allowed to do maths.

Also, that seems interesting there. Knowing Deadly Sanctuary is a Punkish band from the early 2000's, it's very possible that the song could be influenced by them.

This makes me more excited for the EP now. I just can't wait to see what GossiP has in store, because you never know what they'll do next.

Edit: I just realised that this is one of the old bands of Yayoi, who used to own the label that one of Yukika's old bands was signed to. I know you know that, but I literally just realised xD

I can think of at least 4 other examples of bands using a manji in their song titles, so I'm sure there won't be much backlash.

True. It was just an interesting idea to think about though, since the history behind the symbol's many uses is quite intriguing

  4. Ok, so I actually just realised something interesting about track 5 (Manji).

So we all know how the Hindu Swastika was adopted as a variant character for 万 (Pronounced Wan in Chinese, Man in Japanese. Technically means 1000, but is used to mean eternal) and when it came into Japanese, they, for some reason, decided to pronounce it as Manji (Lit. Eternal Character). Despite common belief, the Manji can be written either left facing or right facing. Though the left facing is generally used more in Asia and is used in the west to differentiate it from the Hakenkreuz (which we all know is the German version) which is almost always right facing and diagonal.

Seeming as with the symbols they put on the CD case, they seem to be going toward a Buddhist theme, I wonder how they're going to implement the meaning of the Manji into the song. One could say it could be a deep, personal song, knowing it means Eternity, but knowing that it's going to be a heavier one, part of me is wondering if the song could be using the controversiality of the symbol in the meaning.

GossiP loves to play around with controversial topics, and so I wouldn't be surprised if they made a song playing around with both the meaning of the Manji, and the controversy surrounding it. I guess we'll have to wait until they release it, in which I really can't wait~

  5. How did I not find out about this earlier? xD. I mean, as a huge GossiP fan, I thought I would have found out about this. Then again, where I live is comparable to living under a rock.

Am I the only one who really liked their last single? Getting stoked

I actually really liked their last single too! Especially the look that came with it. Peaked Caps are just yus. Also, it seems as if Saku has gotten really good at his growls. I remember in JyuLie, his screams and growls were pretty crappy, but when GossiP began, he really improved. I really liked the heavy feel that Tenjotenge Yuigadokushou had, and the Punk rock vibes that Aa, Chuunigakusei gave. I mean, GossiP has always given off Punk vibes, but it was always Hardcore Punk vibes, or Emotive Hardcore/Screamo in the case of R-18.

Also, haha for the shade throwing at me, @nekkichi. Very funny. Like omg, I'm so triggered over that. Next time, just mention my name and be brave, won't you please? Throw shade at me to my face like a man, daddy~. It won't ruin my day. I'm not gonna say anything back, because this is not the place, or the time.

I'm not trying to start an argument here, because I hate arguing.  I just authentically want you to say whatever you have to say about me to my face.  Seriously, just message me, because this is honestly not the place to be even worrying about this, so inbox me please

  6. This is a stupid move on Avex's part. *Slow claps*

They're only enforcing piracy. The only reason I resort to such a dirty thing is because I literally cannot buy many of my favourite bands' products in the US.

I could rant on about how Avex is honestly one of the most evil, but I don't really feel like it, because I honestly shouldn't care. The only Avex bands I care about are Kuroyume and Nightmare, but that's because a friend of mine really cares about them (and she cares a lot about the band members personally, especially Hitsugi since he's a big alcoholic. Poor him). Kuroyume though, I absolutely do love. Though, knowing how anti-pop music Kiyoharu is, it is kind of hypocritical that they're signed to Avex. IDK how the label even let "I hate your popstar life" slide xD.
About the anime and all.. Well as a Yuri fan, I don't do Yuri On Ice because that's just clitbait. Not clickbait, but clitbait, if ya know what I mean xD. Really, I stopped watching anime a long time ago, except for Sailor Moon and Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.

Call me an "indiefag", but I'd rather put my money toward a band that would actually receive it. AKA Indie bands and minor label bands. (AKA not Shimizuya, because we all know how they use their funds)

In all seriousness though, this is a stupid move on Avex's part. Even Yoshiki, the worst businessman in all of Vkei (Though I still love him), wouldn't do something so utterly idiotic.

Really, I think PDR-san sums up what Avex is in his newest impressions of the top 100 Japanese youtube channels: *Fanning self with money* "Wait, what do you mean we're losing money and no one's buying music? Don't worry, we'll just rip off the hardcore fans by jacking up the album prices, but paying our musicians less!"

  7. I know this is gonna get me hate, but Arche by Dir En Grey.

Sorry, but it was just boring for me. Diru really needs to find a new genre to do because the deathcore has been overdone. They've been doing it for like almost 10 years already. And yes, there are other possibilities for them, some even allowing for more creative freedom. If I'd have to predict, I'd say they're probably do progressive Metalcore next, but IDK.

Also, any and all of Diru's remakes are crappy, because they sound nothing like the original and share little to no similar lyrics. In the case of Zan though, I liked the guitars, but the vocals bored me. I think if Kyo kept in the unstable singing, screaming and laughs, and did them in tandem with the growling, I'd actually like it.

I personally didn't like their deathcore stuff as much anyway. It felt too much of a sudden divergence from their other stuff. They started out as Alternative Metal on Gauze and Macabre, then progressed toward Nu Metal on Kisou then completely became Nu Metal on Vulgar. Then, Uroboros came and it was just completely different from the rest of their stuff... Like, it doesn't feel natural. It would have felt more natural if they progressed as Nu Metal, then Metalcore, then Deathcore, but IDK.

I guess they're kind of at a genre dead end, because now everyone expects complete shredding and growling out of them. Anything remotely simpler would not be received well. People now expect shred over soul. Heck, their fanbase is already starting to get filled with Metalheads from the western Metal scene, who literally call their old stuff "Pseudo Metal" and are all like "How can you like that early stuff? Listen to Arche! That's a complete masterpiece!!". Like, I like their older stuff because it feels more creative and more natural and has more synergy. Though, the latter is due to Kyo distancing himself from the rest of the members..

Then there is Misui by Kuroyuri To Kage.... Seriously, this song is too simple. It bores the death out of me. Gichigichi was great because it had a fun feel to it, and had a small amount of complexity to it. But Misui... the riff is so simple, and is played all throughout the song, and the breakdown is just lacking. The song structure isn't doing it any favours either. But you see, I'm ok with the original version,

it's the live version they released on Ankoku Sekai Wa Yami that gets me.... Like, out of all the songs they had live, they did Misui? Did they even have to do a live song? I personally would have made another original song if I were in their place, because Kuroyuri has quite a small discography.

  8. When it comes to my styles, I'm a mix of everything xD

I consider myself a little influenced by Kuro from Kuroyuri To Kage when it comes to hair, and how I wear glasses. I used to actually attempt to look like him by wearing a ponytail and parting my hair in the middle, like how he was in Memento Mori, but safe to say, it's cringey.

So I had my hair cut to the "emo" style, and I have part of it dyed Pink like Kuro used to, though I only have highlights. Not the full thing pink, and if I wear glasses, I do look like Kuro somewhat.

My makeup is kind of like Mei from Kuroyuri To Kage back when he was in Memento Mori, specifically their earlier years as a Dear Dolce band. Though I don't wear makeup a lot since I'm barely allowed to. I'm also trying to learn how to do Hiyori's style of makeup, since I really want to begin crossdressing.

When it comes to clothing, I'm influenced by a lot of Eroguro and AnguraKei bands in general. I used to be really into Kimono back when I listened to a lot of Kiryu, but ever since I branched off into Eroguro bands, I've mostly taken interest in sort of that "Meiji-Taisho-Showa" aesthetic many of the bands have. Clothing such as Seifuku, Gakuran, etc. But for casual every day fashion, one could say I'm more early 2000's Vkei influenced in that area, since I go with Tshirts, Jeans, a choker, and a spiked arm band.

  9. In Spiv States' "Flavour", there is a part where it sounds like the lead singer says "Eat a Dorito".

I guess that's why it's called Flavour xD.

Also, sometimes, in Myaku by Dir En Grey, it sounds like Kyo says "Fuck for Gimmick!" or "Go fuck Gimmick!" because of how the words run together.

You sound like you have a lot of range and I'd love to hear you sing!

Anyways I think Kyo's head /mixed voice is the most impressive thing about him other than I guess his much improved growling technique over the years. For someone like me to pull of Saku it'd be purely from intensity and I'd have to be incredibly lucky just to even pull it off without going off key or my voice cracking. I'm pretty sure my vocal range is only 2 octaves since I haven't sung scales or w/e to help improve my range so for someone like me or any average singer Saku is definitely a very difficult song to sing. Kyo's a guy who tries out new things regularly, and sometimes he will down right sound silly because of it, but that's what happens when you have the amount of passion and love for music Kyo has - he's an innovator through and through. I remember the early years where he would never have attempted a quarter of the things he has done half a decade later in his career, so pretty cool beans.

I'm preparing to one day video me singing and post it here. I'm possibly gonna do "R-18" by GossiP, since I know all the lyrics to that (Usually, I improvise the lyrics XD)

  11. One sound I'd really like to hear in VisualKei again was the thrash-influenced Alternative Metal that started to appear in the late 90's, and was especially done by Dir En Grey during their indies, Gauze and Macabre eras.

Really, I'd like to see more thrash metal in Vkei in general, like Aion. There was a short lived Thrash Metal trend in heavier Vkei bands in the late 80's and early 90's, and I feel like with all the Metalcore bands out there, I'd like to see a band expand on the original mixing of Heavy Metal and Hardcore Punk.

There definitely have been some Thrashy bands out there though, usually mixing the style with Metalcore, like Deluhi, and to a small extent, Avelcain. (I say small, because really only the riffings were Thrashy. The vocals, while I loved them, weren't the shouting you'd associate with Thrash)

I also really missed Ace. They were one of my first Vkei bands, and really gave me a taste for what Vkei was like. I think more bands should have full time members who play unusual instruments. Or at least if the member preforms that instrument, use it in a song live. Like, Takemasa from Kiryu plays Violin (At least I think he does. A lot of the songs he writes use Violin and Cello) and there isn't much stopping him from playing it live in the song Sakuyoi, since both guitar parts are practically the same.

Also, I really think there should be more Vkei bands that use traditional instruments. The only ones I know that really use them, and not synthesise them, are Kagrra and CrowXClass, and we all know what happened to Kagrra, whereas CrowXClass, well.. no one really knows. All we know is that their lead singer abandoned them for the over commercialised pop rock band that is Wagakki Band. I used to like Wagakki band when they did vocaloid covers, with an authentic metal twist, but they went generic pop rock pretty quick, and probably don't have the creative freedom they deserve. Also Ikusa sounds suspiciously similar to Masquerade by Heartless, but that's only speculation, and way off topic.

I think it would be cool if Kiryu had a special live where they had 3 guys play the Koto, Shinobue, Shakuhachi and Shamisen (Preferably using the former members of CrowXClass xD), but some of their Shamisen parts can get a little too fast, even for Tsugaru style Shamisen players xD.

Sukekiyo and Ningen Isu do occasionally use Taishogoto though, but Ningen Isu doesn't use it live, and IDK if Sukekiyo does it live.

Also, and this is my last paragraph, I think we should have more Punk rock in VisualKei. So far, it's really only limited to Eroguro and AnguraKei bands, and old school NagoyaKei bands, but it would be nice to see a revival in regular Vkei bands that do Punk Rock. In the 80's and 90's, there were a lot of Punk Rock Vkei bands, like Color, and early GazettE played around with it in the early 2000's, but with the decrease in popularity of EroguroKei, which is mostly based around Punk Rock, and GazettE going mainstream, it's kind of only done by a few bands, the only ones I can name are GossiP, which only do it occasionally (And don't go on about how they're apparently a GazettE clone, or I WILL block you), Inugami Circus Dan, and Sex Android.

At today's one man "「くろゆりとかげのみなさんのおかげでした」" in IKEBUKURO Chop, they gave free t-shirts to all attendances. It was a black t-shirt that 便所 in pink. Everyone had to wear it because they were shooting the live. Mei announced during a MC that they were going to put the footage on Youtube. Presumeable it's a live pv or live footage (duh).

    Here's today's setlist (as confirmed by K):

    1. 捜索願い (Sousaku Negai)

    2. チョコレート階段 (Chocolate Kaidan)

    3. 吐瀉物 (Toshabutsu)

    4. キミの薬指はボクのシチュー。(Kimi no kusuriyubi wa boku no STEW)

    5. 蜥蜴-トカゲ- (Tokage)

    7. 「洗脳」 ("Sennou")

    8. ヨコハマメリー。 (Yokohama Merry.)

    9.  断崖地獄喉輪落とし (Dangai jigoku nodowa otoshi)

    10. ギチギチ (GichiGichi)

    ENCORE

    1. 「未遂」 ("Misui)

    2. チヒロちゃんの眼球舐め (Chihiro chan no gankyuuname)

    3. 「便所」("Benjo")

    4. 「便所2」("Benjo 2")

    5. 児童公園 (Jidou kouen)

    6. 液状部屋 (Ekijou heya)

    7. 断崖地獄喉輪落とし  (Dangai jigoku nodowa otoshi)

    8. 「腐乱腐乱」 ("Furan Furan")

Quite surprised to not see their signature song, Yokusou there. Maybe they stopped playing it after Koyomi and Mutsuki leaving?

Great setlist eitherway, I hope the footage they upload is pure live footage, although I don't think they'll upload the entire thing.

I think it'd be cool if they did a live PV. Kuroyuri does describe themselves as a "Live Band", and they haven't done a PV in a LONG time. I hope it's full live footage though. Perhaps they may release the full live on a DVD someday.
