Western "Metalhead" logic: Black Sabbath and Metallica. Sound nothing alike, both considered Metal. Bullet for my Valentine, sounds something like Metallica. Not considered "trve metal".
Actually, this is kind of the logic of fanboys in the western side of the music scene anyway. The only reason I don't see it in Vkei is because it's accepted that the lines between genres are blurred.

punk=/=metal
bullet for my valentine as an off shoot of punk + pop influences =/= metal
converge having punk but a lot of metal as well = metal
its not that complicated, metalheads aren't metalcore fans but there's a clear difference between hot topic mallcore and an actual band combining thrash/death and hardcore

BFMV isn't Punk with Pop influences. Then again, I haven't heard most of their newer stuff, but their older stuff was mostly Thrash Metal influenced Metalcore. (Even then, they're not that much core) Especially "Waking the Demon". One could call that almost a full on Thrash Metal song (Though there is a bit to much core influence in my opinion for it to be full on Thrash Metal)
I don't get where you get that they're pop influenced Punk from, but I want to hear which songs you've heard from them.

genre terms are fucked, i find its best to avoid them as much as possible
