emmny's recs are on point, but it's also worth mentioning SID's first album "Renai", which honestly is jazz-rock at its best and pretty much started this whole jazzy thing in modern VK. Other bands like SCISSOR, Shichisanshiki and Kazoku also had some really good jazz-inspired stuff.

and there's a lot i don't listen to *waits for vk veterans to come with more recommendations* so there will likely be no shortage of cool tunes to check soon mUAHAHAHA wait on it

no! sugar, fatima, 9gbo, more, moran and a ton of other art kei bands have the distinguishment of doing jazz-kei right. more are the only band currently active, but they have a heavy jazz-lean typical of musicians who are ACTUALLY experienced in jazz LOL so listen to them +10!

People already spoken the truth here. Jazz songs in VK are usually a lazy attempt to mimic the style, instead of doing a proper jazz song. And most of them sucks, tbh. But I do have my fair share of half-assed jazz vk songs that I give a spin sometimes too...

I started putting together a playlist of jazzy-kei not too long ago and either I subconsciously avoid the style or its just not as common as I thought since my playlist is only 20-30 songs and some artists have more than 1. Even when I compared notes with other ORZ members the list only got up to about 30 or 40.

if you could put that list together it would be interesting to see the overlap between professionally trained vk musicians and attempts at jazz-kei

@Carmelzors because that would require an actual understanding of jazz to be able to do well and i'm sure most visual kei band members are musically talented but not professionally trained

I enjoy a lot jazz kei! So we are two against three! We need another mate

bands like Sugar or 8-eit (do they even count as VK though?) make it work, but half the time it's just soulless, lazy and boring imo

Those songs tend to be uninspired more often than not.
 
I have a distain for jazz in general, since a lot of music teachers I've had in the past were disgruntled jazz musicians and I associate it with their apathy.

I don't hate it, but think it's a really lazy way to pad out a release. When I first got into vk I always thought it was cool and unique, but now I realize that like every band has a swing song.

its mostly just butchered swing...aka it sucks all soul out of anything jazzy and turns it into wack filler (my personal beef). BUT the exceptions are amazing....like when jazz-kei is good its fucking amazing and when its mediocre it sucks rlly hard
