thom35 reacted to Seimeisen in How To Create A Japanese iTunes Store Account
Welcome to the official tutorial to create a Japanese iTunes account!

Before you get started, make sure you have all of the following:
✅ An E-mail Address That Is Not Registered To An iTunes Account
Something like Gmail, Yahoo, etc. I would not recommend that you attempt to use your iCloud e-mail address (if you have one).
✅ A Valid Japanese Billing Address
From what I’ve read around, iTunes requires a valid Japanese billing address and they have a system that will check. While it’s probably against Apple’s terms of service, you can use public/business addresses. One user used J-list’s business address, for another account of mine, I used my Tenso mailbox. You could probably even use a Japanese Apple Store location.
    ✅ A Japanese Phone Number
Requirement is debatable. Some people have claimed that they have used their own (non-Japanese) phone numbers, others have claimed to use a random string of numbers, or a 01 2345 6789 sequence… do whatever works!
    ✅ Japanese iTunes Gift Card
I highly recommend that you use Japan Codes, because their cards are the cheapest, and they have a wide selection of cards for other stores, such as レコチョク. I also recommend OffGamers.com if you have multiple iTunes store accounts from many different countries. I use OffGamers to get cards for my UK iTunes account.

One thing to keep in mind about gift code shops:
Every single one of these shops claim to send out gift codes immediately. Some shops live up to this promise... sometimes. It really depends. Sometimes one shop will send out codes instantly, other times that same shop may make you wait a few days.

Now that you have everything on that checklist, let’s get started…

Open up iTunes and go to iTunes Store. If you’re logged into an iTunes account already, then log out.
Then, scroll all the way down to the store homepage, and click on the flag in the bottom corner. It will take you to the region select page.
When you're on the region select page, look for the Japanese flag and click it.
Now you’re in the Japanese iTunes store.

Some computers may display the store in Japanese.
    If that’s the case, then...
    続ける = continue
    キャンセル = cancel
    戻る = back
    同意する = agree

Click the Sign In button, then click the Create Apple ID button.
You’ll get some Welcome to iTunes screen. Click Continue.
Then there will be a Terms and Conditions page, check the box at the bottom, and click the agree button.

Now, let’s enter some basic account information:

Here’s where we begin to have some fun! Many people have trouble with this part.

Don’t worry, you actually can skip the Payment Type part with all the credit cards, and just enter your gift card code below that.
Enter the Billing address. I used From Japan’s headquarters in the picture above, and you could probably get away with using it, too.
Click Create Apple ID and buy some Japanese music!

Feel free to PM me with any questions or feedback.

I haven't heard the whole single yet, but I did actually like the music video (except for the dead-eyes empty stare everyone was giving, haha).  I'm excited to see how a vocalist from a different scene affects this band's music, and if they can finally shake this awkward transition between "We're not Versailles!!!! " and "We're...melo-death-core-vampires-in-space-that-are-really-into-astrology."

It seems like we may have a dogma pt2 only the songs are more refined and not as predicatablely boring. This reminds me of when they came out with the undying single. That song was too strong to fit on that album with all that other stuff though it fit the era well. I would have put undying on this album if I could. I'm really glad Gazette is back! I wonder if they'll do another u.s. tour?

    A few predictions.
THE NOVEMBERS will release either a new single or an EP. I don't think they'll be quiet, whatever the case. 八十八ヶ所巡礼 will drop an actual full-length album to make up for leaving us musicless in 2016. cinema staff will release SOMETHING. these guys have been putting out music like crazy. 凛として時雨 hopefully put out something redeeming. maybe a new single? ....or 凛として時雨 return just to disappoint us again. TK makes another anime theme. This time, his most annoying yet! siraph will drop another amazing EP. another new lynch. album [2] downy goes back into hiding for another 3 years.
That's all I got for now. I do hope for new music from some lesser known bands that probably aren't worth mentioning, though.

There most chart topping album is Holy Grail, that was the full track last album before they announce their hiatus. They even got a mini sitcom during the release of Philia. They got more televisions and radio guestings compared to Jubilee period. "Masquerade" and "Vampire" was even used as soundtracks to an vampiric theme movies, I don`t know the titles though. Their world 2011 tour have more date added compared to the past.  Their career was doing good during "Holy Grail"and climbing up.
Warner promote "Ascendead Master and Jubilee" harder because that was the first project(s) of the band under the label. Ofcourse, the label will need to work extra hard to introduce them to the bigger and unfamiliar crowd.

Well, When Versailles was starting they get more attention on overseas before Japan.

If they are not selling that well before. Then why Warner still signed straight away after announcing their return? They even signed "Hizaki`s solo project". So it`s mean Versailles is valuable asset to them.

Read KAMIJO`s interview about Versailles comeback and his 20th anniversary (I think it`s in RR magazine,I don`t remember what issue) he releaved details about Versailles before hiatus nd his feelings. (There where english translation somewhre roaming around the internet.) Though he tell in there that Hizaki was the one who initiate Versailles to return. Maybe you`ll get clue why they decide to have a break.

Was it? I thought one of the reasons they went on hiatus 4 years ago was the fact they were kind of going downhill. Their last live at NHK Hall did not sell as well as expected and it had only 3500 seats. During their indies era they were playing at Shibuko (about 2000) so I don't see a huge difference.  They kept doing most of their tour finals there after going major too. If I remember right the live house shows in that tour sold out, but those were really small venues for a major artist so..
For Ascendead Master and Jubilee Warner really worked on promotion and had them go on TV and radios, they even got the AD truck driving through Tokyo like popular artists, but nothing like that happened afterwards (maybe it did not pay off?).
They still have a name and are fairly popular in the vk scene but maybe not so good for a major artist? I know the Japanese situation for bands is really bad nowadays, but their individual projects play at the same venues as indie bands and still cannot get to sell out. It's like they show themselves as a legendary band and book big venues to show off but are still getting lukewarm response. Maybe it's been felt differently overseas as their world tours are kind of successful, but that's pretty much about it.

Welcome to the 25 days of ChristMHas!
Given that this is our 4th year doing this, I imagine most of you know the deal already. But for the sake of those of you who are new or just haven't checked out the list in previous years, let me give you a quick explanation.

The MH official reviewers and the staff have gotten together in an attempt to create a list of our favorite releases from 2016 (excluding December). Every day of the month we will be posting a new album until we reach the number one release on our list on Christmas day. Each album will come along with a little blurb from different staff members explaining why the release made it on the list. Keep in mind that it is impossible to really create a list that captures all of the diverse tastes of the our individual staff members, so you will have to wait for the staff member's individual lists if you really want to know a certain member's favorites. Also, the list was limited to only Japanese albums.

This post will serve as the "directory" with all of individual albums being featured in each reply post. The discussion for this will go in THIS THREAD.

And without further ado, the list!

thom35 reacted to ShanethVarosa in #80: Hizaki - Rosario
    | Another effortless masterpiece from one of visual kei's brightest musicians

Hizaki has been an absolute fixture in the Visual Kei community for quite a number of years. Spending some time with a number of small indies bands up to his totally-solo EPs "Dance With Grace" and "Maiden Ritual", and his Hizaki Grace Project albums; continuing on with big-name bands Versailles and Jupiter and now back to being temporarily solo: Rosario is an opus of Hizaki's decades-plus knowledge of the guitar and melody combining technical skill with the most beautiful of melodies and the heaviest riffs and beats.

It's no secret that his greatest skill is in songs like promo single "Grace & Dignity". In fact, if you had to pick a song in all the songs he's ever composed and performed, "Grace & Dignity" would summarize it effortlessly. Utilizing a mixture of guitar solos and dual-guitar melodies with heavy beats in the background and graceful arpeggios, you have all you need to know about this man's career. But why stop there when you can listen to 13 more songs of it?

In all seriousness, about half of the album can be blown through in about ten minutes. Any long-time fan of the man will have heard songs like "Race Wish" on at least one other release prior to this one. I, for one, cannot believe it's actually surfaced again. The rerecorded version is as good as the original with the key elements still intact. The same can be said for recent Jupiter songs "Rose Quartz" and "Church Candle" which show totally opposite sides of Hizaki's ability. Where "Rose Quartz" is actually pretty much an advanced version of "Grace & Dignity", "Church Candle" offers a softer side of Hizaki that is reminiscent of the "Calm" number from Curse of Virgo a few years back. Not so much a dueling-guitar battle, but a single guitar playing a single melody that is both beautiful an captivating. Some Versailles songs even make an appearance: "Silent Knight" and "Desert Apple" also show the same level of contrast in Hizaki's abilities being that "Silent Knight" is incredibly hard-hitting (like "Rose Quartz") with an insane amount of energy and "Desert Apple is slightly less exhilarating, but not quite a ballad. A mid-tempo song with riffs that are incredibly catchy (For example, you find yourself humming the melody because there are no words to sing along to).

Those songs out of the way, there are actually a couple of songs that can be considered transitionary or possibly filler, whichever term you prefer. "Eien no Tomoshibi" and "Elizabeth" are both not particularly enthralling, but not altogether bad. "Eien no Tomoshibi" is just a lighter more ethereal version of "Church Candle". One guitar playing a soft, subtle melody that transitions between songs. "Elizabeth" is far more powerful and uplifting, with an anthemic feel that doesn't actually give a lot of credit to Hizaki's guitar skills, but more generally as a composer.

One of the key differences that this album has compared to a lot of Hizaki's other compositions is that not all of the songs are incredibly lengthy and showy. "Fly Through the Air" is a pretty good rock song that doesn't insist upon itself, but doesn't do a  ton to stand out either. "Beating the Sky" must take it's name from the fact that it's backbone isn't melody but rhythm with a pulsing beat like a club song. "Presto" is one of the best songs on the album and it's less than 3 minutes in lengths, apparently it's a cover of a Vivaldi song. Who knew Hizaki would actually do covers of classical music.

The remaining songs have left quite an impression on me: one good, one bad, and one incredible. The good: "Dark Classical", a song with a strong beat and heavy guitar interpolated with melodies that only Hizaki can pull off. As far as original compositions go on this album, this goes the farthest. The bad: "A Ray of Light", while not being an altogether bad song, was just far too.... much it was five minutes of the same theme that was used in the single-guitar, low-tempo ballads "Eien no Tomoshibi" and "Church Candle" but without the drama and emotion of either. A perfectly fine tune, but I did find this one to be a bit insistent upon itself. As though it were saying "Listen to me, I demand that you listen to me even though I'm not that special."

Finally, the incredible: "Rosario". The title track has elements of every great song Hizaki has ever composed with the melody of "Created Beauty" from Versailles's self-titled album  built right into it. While it has only been a week and I need to digest the song more, one can tell from first listen that a huge amount of thought and planning needs to go into creating a 10-minute epic without words to keep it entertaining and meaningful. It's clear that this was meant to be the title song all along.

In short: the album was a huge success and really let Hizaki indulge himself and his fans in his ability while separating himself from other musicians so that if it isn't your thing you can simply bypass it. Another potential upside: Now that he's gotten this out of his system maybe Teru can compose more Versailles songs.

Greetings everyone! I actually did not plan on making a list this year, as 2015 wasn't my favorite year in music, but I was moved to do so after viewing everyone else's wonderful shares! Please note that this isn't a "best" list by any means, as I believe that music is much too subjective and personal for that to apply. This list is simply the things I enjoyed most over the year.

    This time, I made no distinctions between Japanese and non-Japanese music. The order is also inconsequential, as I can never bring myself to create rankings. Inspired by @hiroki, I created some short audio snippets, so don't hesistate to sample some of my picks! If they don't start immediately, please give them a second or two to load. I also apologize if the loading time for my post is initially a bit slow, but it should work itself out after a few seconds. ^^;

Finally, if you take a moment to go through my list, I'd love to know your thoughts about it! Did anything catch your eyes/ears? Were there picks that you could agree/disagree with? Feel free to comment!

    CAT's favorite music of 2015

宮内優里 - 宮内優里miyauchi yuri - miyauchi yuri

I could literally sit and listen to miyauchi yuri's glitchy folktronica all day and not get tired of it. Overall, his work DOES tend to be quite interchangeable, but I'm so utterly enamored with his sound that it doesn't even matter. I'm pretty much guaranteed to enjoy whatever he makes, and his latest self-titled album is more of the delicious same. This one does seem to be a bit less overtly melodic and more focused in ambient and IDM, though. So a few minor differences, but it's all just as lovely as ever!

Braids - Deep in the Iris

I've always thought of Braids as the Canadian counterpart to haisuinonasa, as both bands share a dreamy mix of electronica and indie-pop with just the right amount of experimental tendencies. They're also both very similar in atmosphere. But on this new album, Braids have taken that sound and made it more accessible and poppy. The results are stunning! Deep in the Iris is one of the few albums that I was looking forward to in 2015 that actually exceeded my expectations - I fell in love with it instantly!

ハイスイノナサ - 変身 haisuinonasa - henshin

Like @Pho, I'm also a proud haisuinonasa fanboy and agree that they've never released anything less than excellent. Unfortunately, their high bar quality seems to come at the expense of a slow and infrequent release schedule, but that just makes everything they put out even more precious. 変身 is only a single, but it's also a complete experience. It's fraught with all of their imaginative and technical post/math-rock signatures, but it shows various new sides of the band as well. I love this single, but it's such tease with no album in sight!

Doldrums - The Air Conditioned Nightmare

When Aoki Robin of Downy mentioned that he enjoyed Doldrums in an interview, I didn't hesistate to seek out their music, and I'm more than glad I did! Doldrums shares a similar, warped, Radiohead-esque aesthetic to Downy that resonates with me easily. There's something very dystopian and 'cyberpunk' about it that just tingles my musical senses!

水曜日のカンパネラ - ジパングSuiyoubi no Campanella - Zipangu

I managed to avoid the hype for this group, but was finally swayed this year. I'm still not completely sold on the vocalist, but the songwriting is so infectious and the production so masterful that I can't help but be charmed. "Wedcamp" is just a completely fun and vivacious mix of Jpop, hip-hop and club music.

Alina Baraz & Galimatias - Urban Flora

Smooth female vocals, sleek, coercive beats, and dreamy overtones? I'm always game for this type of music and Urban Flora delivers it in spades. The tone and the lyrics of this EP are incredibly sensual, but it's all very tasteful too. Great music to vibe-out or chill to...or netflix and chill to. XD

湯川潮音 - セロファンの空Yukawa Shione - Cellophane no Sora

Despite being one of the more reknown modern folk-pop artists in Japan, ----I've avoided trying Yukawa Shione's music until this year, but this just happened to be the perect time for me to do so. Cellophane no Sora is probably her most adventurous album yet and features production and instrumentation from musicians of acts like NATSUMEN, EGO-WRAPPIN', PETROLZ, pupa, anonymass, and more. With a line-up like that, you can't go wrong and Yukawa certainly did not!

Hiatus Kaiyote - Choose Your Weapon

So-called "future soul" band Hiatus Kaiyote has been on my radar since 2012's "Tawk Tomahawk" and what they've delivered on this exquisite follow-up was well worth the wait. "Choose Your Weapon" is a magnificent album with strong soul influences from the past and forward-thinking execution.

    mothercoat - GOHUM

My favorite quirky indie-rockers have returned with their first album after changes to their line-up, and while GOHUM doesn't have the instant accessibility that allergies had, its off-kilter charm will burrow into your ears and reveal itself on repeat listens.

    Pretend - Tapestry'd Life

I had a mighty need for math-rock in 2015 (as I do every year), and other than haisuinonasa, no other band was able to appease my appetite like Pretend did. Tapestry'd Life is only nine tracks, but it's an absolutely massive album with most tracks easily pushing past seven minutes. It's an absolutely eargasmic listen with a non-stop barrage of lush, mathy guitars and incredible, spastic drumming that never misses a beat.

    Dråpe - Relax/Relapse

The last timed I listened to Norse band Dråpe, they were a dreamy shoegaze band with female vocals, but most of that has changed on Relax/Relapse. The vocalist is now male (although you could easily mistake his voice for female like i did). Most of the shoegaze elements have vanished and been replaced with neo-psychedelia - a move that made this band a winner in my ears!

シャムキャッツ - TAKE CAREsiamese cats - TAKE CARE

siamese cats originally started off sounding like a poor man's OGRE YOU ASSHOLE, but they've refined their sound over the years and become a force of their own. TAKE CARE is a short, twenty minute EP, but it's easily my favorite release from the band so far. It's summery, laidback, and carefree indie-rock with impeccably smooth execution. Despite siamese cats having a substantial presence in Japan's indie world, I'm always surprised that they seem to go unnoticed by overseas fans - their music would fit perfectly in a playlist with bands like ミツメ (mitsume), CARD and younger acts like Tempalay and never young beach!

    the north end - balance

The Japanese emo veterans have returned after seven years since their last nation-wide release with the "Balance" EP, and it's a uniquely powerful mix of emo sensibilities, sprawling post-rock, and dub grooves. Simply three tracks were not enough for me!

Tierpark - The Moment Two Worlds Meet

I don't know much about music from Korea, but much like many other Asian countries outside of Japan, their indie scene seems to be experiencing a boom of sorts lately. Thankfully, my musical confidant @Pho has a keen ear to the scene and recommended Tierpark to me - a band with strong, emotive female vocals, soaring post-rock instrumentation, and a few mathy rhythms for good measure. What more could I ask for? I've always had a natural predilection towards female vocals, and since this area of music often tends to be overwhelmingly male-oriented genres, this recommendation was extra fortuitous for me!

    muffin - 茂みとイバラmuffin - Bushes & Briars

muffin is a little-known, singer/songwriter from the Japanese indie-folk realm and an absolute gem for me. 茂みとイバラ (Bushes & Briars) is her latest release - a CD-R that's not widely available for purchase, but definitely worth obtaining. It's enchantingly distilled psychedelic-folk, with sweet, somber vocals laid atop a variable mix of warm and cold acoustic melodies. muffin reminds me of her fellow indie-folksters ゑでぃまぁこん (eddie marcon), who incidentally pitched in and played on this record as well!

    THE NOVEMBERS - Elegance

THE NOVEMBERS have gotten to the point where it's difficult for them to do any wrong in my ears. Elegance does lack their darker, more melancholic side that I prefer, but they've tackled their lighter, fluffier sound like never before here. It's often compared to its similarly sunny predecessor "GIFT", but whereas that was more expansive and rough around the edges, Elegance is more reigned in, polished, and catchy. It's probably THE NOVEMERS' most cohesive record yet, with each track maintaining the whimsical and dreamy atmosphere (except for the last song). Elegance may not be the most compelling release from THE NOVEMBERS as a whole, but it's an impressive mark of refinement for the band, and one that'll grace my speakers for a while to come.

シベールの日曜日 - Gypsy HouseCybele no Nichiyobi - Gypsy House

Psychedelic rock is perhaps one of Japan's least prominent music exports, at least in modern times. There are plenty of Japanese bands playing psyche-influenced material, but very few contemporary acts play it as faithfully as Sundays & Cybele. Gypsy House doesn't attempt to bring anything new to the genre, and it doesn't have to - If you're like me and enjoy this sound in general, then there's plenty of it here to wrap your ears around!

    Ropes - dialogue

Dynamic indie vocalist Achiko and ART-SCHOOL guitarist Masafumi Todaka took me by surprise with their second album as Ropes. I found their debut album pleasant, but forgettable overall, so I wasn't expecting much, but on dialogues, their songwriting seems much more self-assured and purposeful. Achiko's wilting vocals now bring out the best in Todaka's sentimental guitar play.

PLAY DEAD SEASON / This Time We Will Not Promise And Forgive Split

Japanese emo/post-hardcore bands PLAY DEAD SEASON and This Time We Will Not Promise And Forgive have proven themselves to be a perfect pair on this new split. Each track is brimming with emo-rawness punk spirit and it makes me hopeful for future releases!

    the piqnic - ZyouK

Major thanks to @Jigsaw9 for recommending this one, as ZyouK became a favorite for me almost instantly. The fact that they sound eerily similar to THE NOVEMBERS (one of my favorite bands) certainly had a part to play, but they've definitely got their own things going. Some have even compared their brooding atmosphere and expansive soundscapes to bands like Boris. Extremely impressive for a CD-R release and a band that seems to have cropped up out of nowhere. I'm very optimistic about this band's future!

Thank you for viewing, and indulging in my awkward taste for a bit! ^^
