considering the members are almost 100 years old i dont blame them for stringing out their releases/tours. it must be a little boring playing in a band after 18 (!!!) years, besides since the band **allegedly** hate each other then i'd see little incentive to do more than the minimum required to maintain their profits/keep their label satisfied.

dir en grey are an albums band but they have some skippable songs on macabre, kisou and vulgar that do nothing for me. past that (marrow of a bone never happened) they've been getting much better and more consistent, producing 2 albums (uroboros & DSS) that can easily topple some of the best western metal albums of that year. gazette have some exceptional singles and catchy music here and there but i just see them as a "guilty pleasure" kind of band; nothing comes close to the overall consistency of dir en grey. but i think gazette's best songs (chizuru, calm envy, taion, DLN, cassis, filth in the beauty, to dazzling darkness etc.) give some of DEG's best a run for their money. OH also uruha is one of the best lead guitarists in visual kei i fucking love his style of soloing, its so beautifully effortless so there's no contest DIR EN GREY take it!

i like em too but they shouldnt have sizna as a guitarist. i love his compositions for moran, but they're all in the shape of moran's already established sound so they dont have the sizna touch. like moran and sugar are literally night and day; sizna's technique in sugar was so much more interesting with the sexy gothic/jazzy sound and chords i've literally never heard before. and since that was basically his band i want to know if he changed his style or he's suppressing it for moran's sake

im sorry but i loved the obscure remake ( its lazy as hell but tbh obscure needed the BR00TAL remake and while they didnt do much other than detune their guitars and sound more evil i think it works rlly well for a simple song like obscure. i think tsumi to batsu is a lil too weird and shifty to just metalify (??) like obscure

LOL im sorry i thought you said it was a 1:1 and they didnt give a fuck which is why you liked 'em. i clearly saw them as a 1:1 so sorry for the misunderstanding. i think the one thing grieva have going for them is their looks, and when they're not doing god awful suit-kei or whatever they look amazing (their current look is killer). i also do like how they're dark af but i think dezert and kuroyuri have a similar aesthetic going for them. i think the other "revival" bands that are well liked on the forum do a good job, especially avelcain as i can hear a clear metalcore sound mixed with old school riffs. i just take fault with grieva because they do nothing with the source material. are they as hated in the japanese fandom as in the western? i was surprised when i came onto here seeing how much people liked them because on their PVs is mostly comments with people like me picking apart what songs they've ripped off LOL. in all honesty im a massive fan of revival bands, especially in western music. i think the old-school death metal wave that came a while ago was amazing, with bands paying equal homage as worship but doing something fresh which i loved. I also love some bands that inherently copy their predecessors (new shoegaze, post-rock) but thats because they dont rip a specific sound, just elements of it, ya feel? grieva copy riff per riff, melody by melody of a band which have a pretty distinct sound in their genre (im not an old school visual historian so correct me if im wrong). the way i understand it, dir en grey had a pretty secular sound within their scene, which is why i dont feel grieva can get away with simply "paying homage".
