This question just came up to me while I was cooking (i know), why aren't there any vk bands whose vocalist also plays guitar/bass or any instrument while singing? You know, like a lot of western bands.
 
I even have a hard time of coming up with vk singers who play any instrument at all! They are more willing to do choreographies than picking up a music triangle. The only one of who I can think of is Gackt playing piano during Malice Mizer lives.

Thanks! I was looking for a good community like this for a looong time. I would prefer one in spanish, but hey, what you gonna do? The vk novelty (or jrock/jpop for that matter) has mostly wear off here in Chile (i'm i even saying this right?) and became replaced by kpop fans, so all vk/jrock communities are gone now :c

Ahh, that's a great underrated band right there! I almost got to seem them live here, but the tickets didn't sell well so everybody got a refund and a big dissapointing moment in our lives xD At least they let me keep my ticket, it's the only one I have from a show I didn't go :c

I don't know how familiar others are with the shows shown outside of Japan, but Takeshi's Castle and Ninja Warrior have been broadcasts for what seems like years over here. They deserve a comment on here for the bundle of laughs they can get out of you. Especially Takeshi's Castle, oh my god. :'D Ninja Warrior is more nail biting once contestants keep getting through the rounds.

Not so long ago I started thinking about Deftones' unreleased album Eros, and I began wondering.. Have there been any J-rock/J-pop acts who have announced (and presumably also recorded demos, designed artwork etc.) albums/releases, but never actually ended up releasing them due to some reason or another? Or are there any releases that have simply just gotten ''lost'' (e.g.: original master tapes destroyed or w/e) forever? Is there some sort of ''VK Rarez Holy Grail'', so to speak of?

Ever heard of Derren Brown? Well, maybe starting off this magician topic with Brown is more than expected or just wrong? He's a mentalist and illusionist, and his tricks can be very big and dramatic. He's always getting better and better, a really clever and cool guy.

Maybe try to avoid anything bloody or with serious consequences in it. You know what I'm talking about.

Often times, I get my news about bands new releases and activities from a certain Asian news site and from the massive post from fangirls on tumblr. This is mainly done with these bigger, more popular bands like The Gazette and Dir En Grey.  One thing I find lacking in these convos is the fact that, popular or not, no one really gives a review of the band's music. No one says "Oh this album is as bad at the last one." or " They don't sound like they use to anymore." One thing I never hear about is how popular the band is now. There's not mention of "This old band is loosing popularity due to the fail of their last album" or even " They're calling this group the next ___".
 
so with that in mind, speaking in terms of sales and overall popularity in Japan, what bands have gain or lost their popularity ?

There are a lot of bands from japan i love (my favourite band of all times is luna sea), and love the older (proto?) vk bands (die in cries, zi:kill, etc.) and not so old vk bands (mist of rouge, kalimero, plastic tree, etc.).
 
I run a small tumblr called "Arbaro Sonoj" which reviews and uploads old school visual releases (it's in spanish, but still you can check it out here: arbarosonoj.tumblr.com), and I hope to run into fellow old vk lovers to share thoughts and music.
