I love tanbi/beauty kei the most. I like it because I think it looks so cool yet so sophisticated, and while I guess Malice Mizer and Versailles would be the poster children for it, I've seen some really interesting takes on it. Moran progressively got more and more tanbi as time went by, but they looked so much more different to any other band I've seen before. They were like something out of a fairy tale (they even had a song called Fairy Tale ). I like anything that looks very original, really. SHiSHi have a great style; oshare kei (I love it too ) but really... out there.

The chorus of Noir fleurir's song "Boden" is just random cuss words in English. It always made me chuckle, so it's my sig now.

Quality could be better, but DVD doesn't give me much to work with when ripping. Either way, hope you enjoy!!

If you want a really good old school style JRPG to sink your teeth into, I can Recommend Dragon Quest XI. One of my favorite games from last year and you could easily sink 100+ hours into its story and post game activities. Just be warned that it is very "purist" in a lot of its design, so if that doesn't bother you I'd say it's a good pick.

I've been playing the hell out of Yakuza 0 recently... finally bit the bullet and started it up last month, I regret not starting it sooner. I'm already done with the main scenario and now i'm sinking a ton of time into completing all the sub stories and mini games

And I just started Assassin's Creed Odyssey, and man does this game really remind me of The Witcher 3.... in a good way! I'm really digging what I've played so far and I'm glad that I can finally enjoy another AC game again, after the disaster that Unity was I never went back. Feels good to know they bounced back.

I'm also Twitch streaming now occasionally, most nights around 9pm CST for a few hours. anyone that wants to drop by feel free! http://twitch.tv/towa_sky

Just beat Horizon Zero Dawn. It was my first "shooter" type game and I had a great time with it.

Since then I've been looking for a good JRPG to play but nothing really hooks me the way Persona 5 and Nier Automata did. Replaying Xenosaga on PS2 kinda remedied that, but damn, I need more--something to really sink all my time into. I'm just a picky bitch!!

Debating on picking up FFXIV again, but pugging dungeons with randos kinda stressed me out. I also ran out of things to do in the game. I don't raid, craft, sell or RP, so I just quit after leveling the classes I liked and finishing the Stormblood MSQ. I'd probably be bored if I came back, even with Shadowbringers coming. That's what my anti-social ass gets for treating an MMO like an offline single player game. :')

The bass line in "Cage" and "Moon-light-dance" are some of the best melodic bass passages in the whole scene.

I don't listen to modern Diru, so I cannot attest to how Toshiya sounds now but I imagine he does whatever prog-sludge-kyopera-metal thing they do pretty well.

Mago and later Kisaki, I feel, isn't really known for being a bass wizard? He's more known for general atmosphere and musical aesthetic that's undeniably his, or inspired (read: ghost-written / "produced") by him (I think someone described it here as a "magical forest" feel in a review). I don't hold any Lin songs in high regard specifically for the bass work, but that doesn't mean he's a bad player.

I hold Mana in a similar regard: I don't think he's a shredder like Hizaki or Leda, but I like his music more for the whole composition.

I absolutely love the retro vaundeville aesthetics with the band and the dancers. It works so well with the song and the kind of band they were.

For a more recent one I absolutely love Kizu's Kawazu MV and how the director was able to speak about pedophilia in a crude way but without being too much on your face/commercially-edgelordy.

Zalemu reacted to Himeaimichu in When does an artist become a rip off of another artist?
I don't even bother with caring if a band is a rip off anymore. It just seems like the kind of thing 14 year old girls complain about, and within music, almost everything has been a rip off.
Plus, with the rise of tribute-kei, ripping off has become more closer to what we'd call sampling in Hip Hop. We know it's from somewhere else and they want us to know too. It's actually fun to find out what riffs they sampled and how they implemented it, as they often change it up. It's still enjoyable music, it still takes skill to play, don't worry about it too much.
I mean, Ruki didn't invent the neck stripes all on his own (anyone remember Yuuga from Devil Kitty and Saki from Cuartet?) And ripped off looks from other artists. Also, it seems petty imo to complain about copying looks.  I see a lot of fans who always complain when another vocalist has neck stripes, and I'm pretty sure none of them remember when The GazettE had more Japanesque themes and Ruki was trying to sound like Daisuke from Kagerou and were signed to the label of the dude from La'Miss Fairy lol. It just seems petty to complain about. Like, so what if I wear neck stripes and dreads? I'm not copying Ruki, I'm copying Saki from Cuartet. Get it damn right (JK lmao)

Basically, don't worry too much about it. Like whatever you want, everything is a rip off of something and no one is completely original. As long as you're not like claiming the entire piece as your own original creation and let people know your sampling, at least. (Or in the case of 90% of Tribute Kei, its implied that there will be ripping off lol) I do believe copyright infringement is a thing, and I've definitely seen some examples of full on ripping off, but when it comes to Visual Kei, the topic is more nuanced than a lot of more prude, puritan fans will realise.

Regarding to Kamijo, I don't think it can be said that he simply changed his vocal range and that's it. Rather, I think Kamijo changed his range because he learned how to sing properly. That is to say, he realized that songs like Lareine's (tenor range) are not suitable at all for his own natural range (clearly baritone). This is easy to prove to anyone who listens just to a single Lareine song. And in fact I think it was clear to Kamijo himself ; in fact, several songs from Lareine's repertoire were tuned down for live performances. Check "Metamorphose" as an example:

Album version (on C minor key)

Live version (on B minor key, and also an epic performance)

However, Kamijo might be still heard not so comfortable. Add to this the feminine and in-pain characterization that Kamijo tried to build for his on-stage persona. What you get is a voice that sounds like choked, it is clear that he is making a huge effort to be able to reach every high note. Also, I think that Kamijo smoked at that time, right? Much worse.

Either way, Kamijo had a very good vocal performance in Lareine. Not only because he always kept himself into the key (which in visual kei is like asking a lot lol), but because, despite all this I said, he managed to keep a flow of voice that was voluminous, and all that while charaterizing it in a very convincing and beautiful way.
Either way, fortunately he has decided to adjust to his natural range since Versailles began. His voice now sounds much more natural and versatile; he even can reach the tenor notes, which as I said are not natural for him, through some falsetto, which is actually heard very nice and dramatic.

I think the same can be said regarding Gackt. Check the following "Mizerable"versions:

Album version (on key of D flat minor)

Live version (on key of C minor)

Now there are other vocalists, that actually improved over the time, but in the beggining didn't try to lie to themselves proving that their range was higher than what their throats could actually offer without killing themselves into the process lol

Ruki have always had a beautiful voice and a decent technic, but I feel that songs like "Wakaremichi" or "Miseinen" sounds legitly good nowadays. Ruki now can manage to run trough the different notes and volumes very smoothly, while managing to bring out a strong flow of voice, even while delivering this gothic-inspired deep voice that is one of the trademarks of the 'visual kei' sound, but that makes singers of the scene really -like, REALLY- bad 90% of the times.

    Album version (2002):

Live version (2012, and also another epic performance)

Also, Miku from Antic Cafe and Asagi from D can other great examples of vocal improving.

Gara (MERRY) sounds noticeably different in After effect and early Merry, obvs younger and had a few voice cracks here and there. Now his voice has matured, as he has more range and control, but screams less than he used to. Also he moans when his voice cracks sometimes which I really like 👌

There is also a great contrast in Sui's vocals between Metis Gretel/early Megaromania and late Megaromania/Lin/David. His voice, especially in his previous bands before Metis was low, offkey, and obviously inexperienced. He improved a bit in Metis, reaching higher octaves and screamed (a lot) (like a girl), but began gaining control of his voice by the time he formed Megaromania, and achieved it by their later period. By the time he was in Lin, and eventually David, his voice was fully matured and able to reach more ranges, and he's started experimenting with harsher vocals, but not that much.

Okay, these guys feel like  bootleg Noulla, and while it took some while to get used to his vocals but I have a thing for shitty vocals so ye. The ne song is just no all in one, also why is kagome the ONLY video where the drummer is actually playing a full set instead of a skeet ass drum with half assed acting..like is that on purpose? いたい feels like a SAVAGE song  mixed with a Noulla song that spawned a very underwhelming lovechild, but i love it. The way he has those finicky warbled high notes has grown on me. But yeah, these are all typical VK melodies and on the ne one...Can they like mix their tracks better? Everything is louder than the drums. especially the fucking synth, jesus. 爪痕 is pretty enjoyable, but for some reason I can't stop seeing a bootleg zin when I hear Sugar, especially his Inhale harsh vocals  they sound EXACTLY the same lmao. The acting in their PV's is cringe..also is the delayed delivery on お買い得だよ on purpose? Or did he fuck up talking too fast? I have so many questions lmao
