Tyler, The Creator (OFWGKTA)

Recommended Posts

on topic: hey, OldCheesey! did you listened to the RADICAL album?

Nope. I've only checked out some stuff on youtube for now. Radical's worth getting?

I think yes, it's a real Odd Future album, nearly every important member appears on it...Tyler, The Creator; Hodgy Beats; Wolf Haley; Earl Sweatshirt - so it serves as a good "introduction" album, and it has some quite awesome tracks too, so get it. ;]

Hmm, I think his sound is at least interesting. Definitely preferred to shitty "hip-pop" that dominates the charts nowadays, as old cheesey said, haha.

But, I kinda lol'd at this interview:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IN5Alud0G6s

Doesn't seem to be the brightest bulb in the bunch.

"Like a 'bitch' is a pregnant dog. That's a 'pregnant gold retriever'!" How clever!

I think it sheds a little light on the situation though. He still seems young and immature, so he probably doesn't realize the repercussions of using words like "f*ggot" and "gay" pejoratively, that no matter how unintended his usage of those words were, they will always come off offensively to some people. I'm not excusing him at all. I'm just saying, I believe that's probably why.

You know what? I'm really fucking tired of this shit. Herpes and precious kitty listen up: I'm tired of the two of you (yes, the TWO OF YOU) running around this forum labeling everything and everyone as a manifestation of passive homophobia. I'm especially offended that you think I'm ignoring "blatant, outright homophobia"

priceless

If you dislike him so much, leave this topic and allow proper conversation to continue but I will not have any more of this conversation.

won't happen because

sorry for digging into this thread's offtopic bits, they've been too awesome to pass through

O.K let me derail this convo about the rapper for a bit,

I haven't hear or known about the artist, hence i didn't put my comment here before,

though i am following the convo by lurking around. Just to know

and i may be interested to check out some of this artist's works.

Cos i believe this is one of the true nature for artist topic in ever board there is.

Not just for already fan, but also future audience.

And to see there is out of the topic subject about homophobia.

As one of the gay man in this board i just can't help to give out my opinion.

For everyone, including my gay fellows in this board.

I am all for the music, also for human rights, including LGBT rights.

but then again how many rappers that aren't homophobic?

And i still hear some of those,

cos seriously if we want and have to be sensitive,

there is so much things that i can complain about media being homophobic.

Or not so far away,i would fucking let people know any member in this board

if they got too much and i got problem with that.

I even wrote a mod once for using words "gay" as replacement for the words "lame".

Though i did it i way more civil way.

Cos who would want to hear you two cents if all you just say things that fucking rude?

None. Especially i am believe many of members here are well educated.

Many saying they are in college,

but many also i see their behavior none better that grade school students.

despite being in intehnetz, still, you are what your opinion is.

Yeah you can always deny that you just trollin, whatever, but ain't fooling anybody but yourself.

Easiest example is how many sitcoms, soap opera, stage play,

movies,

that make typical a gay man as a man that wearing androgynous wardrobes,

witty attitude, a cry baby and so on.

Which in reality, meanwhile the kind of gay men is really exist,

but there is also much more gay men that are straight acting,

butch, street smart, well behaved, and having successful life and career.

Believe me i have seen so many.

But i don't bother to complain,

unless it gets really rude like that guy from 30 ROCKS did recently.

In fact i still enjoyed some shows like that, many of them.

And i treat it the same with music,

i listened to some rappers that are labbelled as homophobic.

Yes maybe they have bad message,

but sometimes we should not have to read between the lines.

That may make ones lost in their own minds.

Many bands not just rappers being homophobic too.

Why not complain all of those lot too?

Not about being relevant or irrelevant,

homophobic is homophobic.

But if one enjoyed the music,

sometimes the homophobic labels can be put aside.

I still listen to some rap,

i still love Homer Simpson and Peter Griffin who are homophobic,

I still watches South Park, Little Britain and many other shows.

Does not matter. He is still funny and not crossing the border. So what?

Music is universal, so does many other forms of arts, and that's that.

Hell, i even still befriends some good friends of mine.

Some childhood friend that doesn't understand with being gay.

They sometimes being too loud but should i leave them for giving out their opinion?

No. They are my friends, i will never give up on them,

instead of that i gave them more understanding.

So then they can tone down a bit,

and know more about how does it feels to be in my shoes.

And they did.

That is no how social life is,

gay peoples that only hang around with gays is quite sad , me think.

Cos it is only make themsleves look as exclusive,

unreachable by Straights even if they want to, the image, if you got me.

Being critical is good, but being too critical is not.

It will only backfire. There is always limit.

or else we just not that different from maniacs like Westboro Baptist who will accuse peoples randomly for being or for supporting gay comunity.

We just only do the opposite, we point a finger to anyone that seems having homophobic tinge to their lyrics or movies or anything.

Or not that different from parents who seem never able to stop complaining for anything that didn't suit them in the name of their kids.

There is so much more than labels.

We should never hate homophobics, we must reach them instead.

They hating for a reason, and many of the reason because they doesn't understand what gay is, it just foreign to them.

And it is only natural people will defend themselves from soemthing foreign. Even our physical immune system will.

Our white blood cell will.

But by reaching them, hoping they can have more knowledge

about being gays, they can let us be. But if not, God bless them.

At least we've tried.

Better than do nothing but wishing for the World to be a better place right?

Sorry if this sounds like patronizing, but i believe it's true.

And honestly, i never meant to patronize anybody, just giving out my two cents.

And i never like to crash any party,

cos i don't like if my party be crashed by somebody.

Having said that, if we didn't really have much to say.

Better keep it for ourselves than come off as rude yeah?

Let them talk and discuss about this rapper in peace.

O.K, i stop it here. Please move on with the on topic subject.

I am sure any further than this will get Champ taking some action.

And not talking about this board being puritan. It just needed actions.

Peace out.

Okay, that's enough people.

First of all, I'm handing out some warnings. Specifically to:

precious kitty (for this)

and

nekkichi (for derailing the thread with stupid trolling again)

Be happy that I'm not handing out more warnings, because there is a lot more warnings potential here.

And now I'm giving this thread one last chance. If it descends into a shitstorm again, there will be more warnings, possible bannings, and certainly deletions of posts. Understood?

I don't know this rapper and can't comment on his allegded homophobia, but he certainly wouldn't be the only homophopic idiot in rap music or music overall. And I can totally understand if some people refuse to listen to him because of that, I would do the same thing. But we are not gaining anything from turning this into a drama here.

Pick your battles.

errr.. i didn't mean to offend anyone and i apologise if I did. My previous post was pretty clear - using "gay" and "faggot" in a negative connotation is offensive and I don't ever do that in real life.

BUT

I just wanted to make a thread about an artist I like musically and to talk about it with other fans. I don't like to think im promoting homophobia by listening to his music. Or rape. Or murder. Or disrespect to women. I don't take it seriously. That was my whole point. And I certainly don't deserve to be ambushed for making a thread on Tyler. I was just stating his response to the homophobia allegations.

Back on topic... I love "French" too! Bastard is pretty good as well, need to check out the whole first album.

Another good song - Earl Sweatshirt's "EARL". Awesome stuff.

Anyone who wants an introduction, watch this:

Frank Ocean and Earl Sweatshirt are the only artists in Odd Future I really care about. Tyler has some potential, but I don't particularly love anything he's done yet, aside from a few random songs.

I didn't really like EARL by Earl Sweatshirt though. Something like Drop or Dat Ass is better, imo.

Listened to Goblin a couple of times recently and overall i don't care for it too much, but some individual tracks are great. Moving on to the older stuff, since it's supposed to be better anyway i guess ( ? ).

This forum needs a general Hip-hop thread. Probably going to make one soon unless somebody does it first :D

Those + General dance music /turntablism thread

There are way too many good, obscure japanese DJs /dance musicians to be found (not going to create the thread tho - someone can do it instead of me :bunny: )

Thanks Lukrecia, keeping those in my mind for awhile

Whatsoever, I think that people shouldn't take Tyler's lyrics seriously, nor the typical hardcore hip hop lyrics.

It's just black humour, ya know.

Learn2ignore.

Also, I DLed Bastard - Loving it right now

Nope, Bastard (his 1st album) is hit-and-miss too. I like Goblin for the individual tracks that are amazing (Yonkers, Radicals, She and Sandwitches), but there is also a lot of filler.

I need to hear the whole EARL album, his rapping is probably better than Tyler's. Has a way with words. I love the beat in the song EARL though, that distorted electro-noise is freaking amazing.

Frank Ocean is worth checking out too, have heard a few of his tracks from his mixtape, pretty good.
