nuke 1 Posted January 27, 2012 like the title suggests, does anybody have any western band recommendations? (・ω・) i'm trying to branch out my music genre rather than just listening to visual kei all the time haha. i guess anything that falls under the alternative rock category, but i'll try anything as long as it's not super screamo. ( ̄∇ ̄) p.s. i hope this is allowed. (゜ロ゜;)
Maiku 4 Posted January 27, 2012 The Smashing Pumpkins is always a great alt band. :'D
nuke 1 Posted January 27, 2012 The Smashing Pumpkins is always a great alt band. :'D i've heard some of their stuff before, but they weren't really my thing lol. but if you had any specific song recs, that would be great~ (;∇;)
LIDL 692 Posted January 27, 2012 Do you want something not too far away from VK scene or do you open to new ideas? I suppose you can always start with something like The Killers and The Strokes. If you like it more punkish At The Drive In is a good start. Or if you want it more progressive/experimental and metal, A Perfect Circle, Tool, Mudvayne (aside if L.D 50 album), The Mars Volta and Mr.Bungles are all good choice to start. For some legendary acts, start it with some bands like Red Hot Chili Peppers as they are good and groovy. I didn't hear many new acts many people called as metvl-core as they are crap to me, so you may not find some posers like Ax7 in my list
Zeus 7997 Posted January 27, 2012 Russian Circles is an awesome post-rock/post-metal band that you may like. They're instrumental though and for some people that's just not their thing. You should try them out.
Pretsy 1343 Posted January 27, 2012 Mr. Bungle, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Idiot Flesh and Stolen Babies Insane (and by "Insane", I meant "psychotic", not in a heavy way tho) check-out bands
Jigsaw9 6783 Posted January 27, 2012 Mr. Bungle Seconding this! Their album California is a good introductory/starter release I think.
Spike760 16 Posted January 27, 2012 This is one of my favorite American bands, it's a great transitional step from visual kei to Western rock. BBeJDPwO9kY ks_XlfGY4Sw
Pandabear 414 Posted January 27, 2012 The Smashing Pumpkins is always a great alt band. :'D I second this. Try their greatest hits collection to get a good sense of the band as I feel you can't truly get a good listen of what their music is like by listening to one single song. I also second stuff like the Killers, Red hot chili peppers and the strokes. Gonna add Interpol to that list as well. Other bands I recommend: Deftones wkjlQW6RpRc Brand New - Check out Deja Entendu. Their masterpiece. hdJPaGKJkmo Alice In chains JB_fNVOPzyM Filter I3yvFmi_q1M The Offspring CKEiUURUVR8 Kill Hannah k2nZM3n3Qbs Some more bands: Silversun Pickups The Drums Engineers The Bravery Pink Floyd Blink 182 U2 She Wants Revenge

Pretsy 1343 Posted February 6, 2012 Do they have to be American or does European count as well? Only American bands I still listen too is Kamelot, and also a bit of Paramore. Well, if we did count *other* western acts as well, then the OP would have changed the topic to "Western Band Recommendations", whatever OP wants... Yeah, Deftones is must-check too - one of the few American acts that remained great throughout the decade(s) also, Faith No More (it may have been suggested already but still): VSh2-gDn82k (they make rockier songs but this is prob. their heaviest to date)
