What do you guys think? I like how the album arts match Bakane's album arts. Imho they pretty damn cool 8)

But I just can't help thinking that if Yuuki's head was replaced with the head of an older woman, the picture would still look very legitimate... Like c'mon - the hat, the sunglasses, the fur, the fancy cigarette holder.......

  2. I was going to say "yay I like this, there's no wubwub" but then the wubwub started like right in the end of the video. Nevertheless it still sounds pretty okay to me. The PV looks nice and the chorus sounds pretty cool. I'm trying to find the right words for how this sounds to me. Traditional? Schlager (if it's also an English word)?

Even though this isn't exactly the direction I hoped they'd go, imho it still sounds better than gossip. Let's just wait until the whole single is released :3 Can't wait for my copy of the limited edition to arrive.

  3. The final press is still available!

Anyway, most fans I know who actually bother to collect the different "versions" do so for the sake of completeness rather than for listening to the different tracks... even if they contain the same tracks (e.g. 3 presses of アルルカン) you're still gonna find people willing to buy a copy of each :P

Where is it available? It's sold out at least in CDJapan and Brand X :(

  4. Haha :D i really recommend something called Elocon ointment (mometasone furorate); i used to have REALLY bad eczema on my...ahem...nipples. This stuff cleared the worst of it overnight with one use :)

I use Elocon along with other products :D It does help but it burns so much it brings tears into my eyes XD

  5. ^ You might suffer from a lack of a vitamin. My cuticles are always extremely dry and they crack and tear off and bleed and what not. Doctors say it's because of a lack of certain vitamin B that can only be gained through shots. So... maybe you're suffering from a lack of a vitamin as well? Maybe not the same vitamin but some sort of vitamin.

It could be eczema; I used to have this pretty bad when I was a kid :/

A lot of medical problems listed underneath...

It actually is eczema, a year ago I visited a doctor specialized in dermal diseases and allergology a few times because of a weird rash caused by my severe nickel allergy :D She in fact prescribed me those cortisone creams for both rash and eczema and didn't mention anything about a possible lack of any vitamins or other minerals.

Though it is quite possible that the reason for my eczema getting worse is my super cheap student diet which includes only minimal amount of important vitamins... D: Probably I should buy some vitamin B supplements, they might actually work! My cuticles are fine though.

One thing that has actually helped my skin (in both thumbs and heels) was a strong cortisone treatment I was prescribed in December because of my asthma getting rapidly worse. I was super sick back then but at least the cortisone treatment made my asthma and skin better XD

And now you know every possible medical issue that I have. Lol. :D

  6. I am not an expert in music and singing but doesn't the voice naturally change when singing?

People sound different when singing and speaking. I guess if you tried to sing with your speaking voice you might end up hurting your vocal chords since you need to use them diferently to sing and that obviously will change the tone of your voice, regardless of the music style.

I was referring to what CAT5 said in the second post about forced accents etc. Of course everyone sings and speaks in a different voice, but I think we're discussing whether VK singers have "two different singing voices". CAT quote under the spoiler.

    --

As for Visual Kei...I once asked my Japanese friend "why do VK vocalists sound like this", since he has an innate understanding of the language, and he replied that VK vocalists sing with kind of a forced accent, and that's it's not their natural singing voice. That explanation made an incredible amount of sense to me. Obviously, that doesn't mean that VK vocalists are singing "right" or "wrong" or anything like that - it's simply the style they choose to sing in.

  7. I wasn't originally talking about that deep, chest-originated, "faux baritone" voice (Kamijo, D, etc), but about the lighter and more normal style of VK singing, because that's the way I like it. When my dad commented the singer, I was listening to bands like DIV and Lustknot. But I think others might have been talking about the baritone voice.

There are some examples under the spoilers.

Yuki (Lustknot.) i'm ofc talking about his clean voice

    Chisa (DIV)

I think it's pretty clear that those super low baritone voices aren't their real voices at all. But what about singers like Yuki (Lustknot.), Chisa (DIV), Yuuki (Lycaon), Subaru (Royz)?

  8. [a lot of cursing]

The skin in my thumbs has been so dry the whole winter that I literally get wounds and cracks from using them. It doesn't matter what kind of prescription cortisone creams I use or how oily the drugstore creams I use are, they just keep cracking and cracking. Now I have 12 little bleeding cracks in my thumbs and a few in my index fingers. AND IT HURTS SO FUCKING MUCH AND I CAN'T EVEN BEND THEM WITHOUT THE SKIN CRACKING EVEN MORE. The cortisone cream I use kinda helps, but it burns and hurts more than pouring fucking strong HNO3 on your hand (been there done that).

My heels are also cracking so badly but OMFG I CAN'T MOVE MY THUMBS.

    [/a lot of cursing]

  9.

    The short answer is: YES

You will find all kinds of vocalists and all kinds of rock outside of VK if you look for it.

So yeah, there you have it.

Wow, I had no idea that VK singers don't sing with their natural voices... Maybe this was the reason I was so confused with this subject. Now this seems a lot more logical. Thank you for sharing that piece of information! :3

But now I'm even more curious - since when has this started and how do their natural voices sound like. Considering the amount of foreign visual kei -inspired bands (though good ones are pretty rare) I'm wondering why Yohio seems to be the only one who has managed to make his voice sound like (new wave) VK vocalists' voices do.

  10. Back in 2006 my friend sent me a few songs via MSN (:D) and I started liking them immediately. The first songs I've heard were Vidoll - Teddy and D'espairsRay - Valentine. There isn't much more to it - my friend just sent me the songs, I liked them, and started digging up more bands.

  11. I started thinking about the Japanese/VK way of singing while I was driving with my dad and listening to VK. My dad as a musician said something like "The instrumentals are quite nice, but why do they sing like that? Are there any "normal" rock vocalists in Japan?" By normal I think he meant the way eg. classic rock vocalists sing (to name a few: Joe Lynn Turner, David Coverdale, Ronnie James Dio, Ian Gillan etc). I seriously couldn't answer that question, since I basically listen to nothing but newer visual kei.

I've been listening to visual kei a long time but I feel ashamed because I am not very familiar with other Japanese rock music. So my question is:

Do that kind of Japanese vocalists exist?

And if they don't, then why? Could it be just a matter of a different language and the way they've learned to talk and sing?

I'm sorry if this is a stupid question and I'm just a weeaboo who listens to nothing but VK, but at least I'll hopefully get some kind of answer.

  12. Wait I thought it was supposed to happen at 1pm Japanese time on February 19th, which has long since passed?

and what is sugibo talking about with another announcement on 3.14?

    I am so confused.

No, the first post says 2014/02/20 13:00 (Japanese time) and isn't it 8AM in Japan at the moment? So 5 hours of excruciating waiting.... What could he possibly announce??!

  13. 16. A 10 disc Blu-Ray set containing remastered live footage, all of their pvs, videos of hide doing whatever, and some stickers to 1-up L'arc~en~ciel priced at 59,999 yen. Bonus: Sugizo conspires to do the same for Luna Sea and begins writing another mediocre single

THIS. Now we have figured out Yoshiki's announcement.

EDIT// It's like 6 hours left to the announcement. How can I go to sleep without knowing Yoshiki's announcement??
