    Thank you. That's nice.

Saw is horror, aye. But it's a sub-genre called torture porn (so you're quite right), which is horror with lots of focus on explicit violence, torture, mutilation, sadism, nudity and such. A sub-genre of the splatters, I guess you could say. While I like plenty of the American torture porns, I think the french mastered this genre with films such as Martyrs, À l'intérieur, Haute tension, In My Skin, Frontière(s) and more. Unlike most of the American torture porn, these films had a lot going for it underneath the shock. Yes, there's lots of violence and sexual ugliness, but there's so much more to them than just that. But if one doesn't like extreme violence, then these obviously ain't for you.

Martyrs are probably the best of the lot along with Saw IMO. But it's quite different. Bleak, dark, disturbing, raw and pitch black horror which just plays with your brain due to its bleak and disturbing content. But with this film, it isn't the violence, torture or sadism that hurts you, it's the pain itself. It's a fantastic film IMO.

Watched as many clips as I could before trying out some Saw movies today and... damn, no thank you very much. This is horror? More like violence porn, geez.
I love seeing so many different horror movies, most of which I've never even heard of before so Bear, you're totally cool.

Great thread! So many great bands mentioned ...KURO, GUDON, OUTO, THE RUSTLER etc.!!
Kinda on the fence on Zouo tbh... and I have to say GISM may very well be one of the most overrated Japanese HC acts of all time!

Anyway, figured I'd throw in a couple of personal faves that (hopefully) aren't total bullshit:

    MINK OIL

Totally underrated band IMO! Not especially hard stuff to find, but it just seem to have blown over most punk dudes heads.
The first RE ZIST flexi is sort of in the same vein... totally raging with utterly pissed off vocals!

    INNOCENTS

Mentioned above, but this band is just so much fun! Their "魔性" EP is an all time fave ...tight playing and hilarious engrish lyrics.

    MATSUJI (まつじ)

Pretty particular mix of epic riffs and all out HC mayhem. Great EP!

    AKA (赤)

Total MASTURBATION rip offs! But they somehow pulls it off ...one of the first Japanese punk records I got!

    THE SEVENTEENS

Going into love-it-or-hate-it terrority now ...I love if of course! In my ears this is totally up-yours snotty delinquent youth punxXxXxX!
The IZUMO PUNKS flexi is pretty similar in style. I can recommend them both, but they can be a bitch to find unfortunately.

    SEX COMPLEX CLASS

From their utterly weird egyptian-inspired 2nd release. Manages to be pretty straightforward and pretty damn weird at the same time.

aaaannd a last one ...honorable mention:

    KYOJINBYO!!!!

No description necessary ...just 100% KILLLLLERRRRR!!! I've got their second EP, but this first one has still eluded me. Everybody else seem to score cheap-o copies on the regular though T_T

Yeah, it was very fun. Was fun 8-10 years ago as well. I think it was right after the release of Chimera. Heh.

Cool, that looked good. Shame about Corpsegrinder's invitation to a pit though. Fuck pits, fuck ninja dansing and fuck moshing.

^ Sounds like fun! First (and to this day, last) time I saw Mayhem they played at some hole in the wall club here, and everyone else was so tall (and there were so many people) that I practically couldn't see a thing and the sound wasn't the best either. xDDD They have a cool live presence tho, that's for sure... at least from what I could gather.

My last gig was 2 days ago, saw Cannibal Corpse for the 2nd time. I couldn't get there for the first opening band (Aeon -- I didn't mind), only the second one, which was Revocation. I liked their last album and some of their other tunes but they were a bit weird live. I mean, they weren't bad, just kind of all over the place in terms of sound/style and kinda lame in contrast to the awesome br00tality that followed. Cannibal Corpse was of course excellent, even more so than last time I saw them! The mixing was unusually good too, very punchy and powerful without being obnoxiously loud and overdriven. Also, bonus points for the setlist: the bulk of it was different than what they played here last time. All in all, a cool show.

Thought Mayhem gave us a good gig. The setlist was great, with 10/14 or 11/15 songs being pre-Chimera stuff. Hellhammer is Hellhammer and the drum sound could've been much better, but it wasn't as bad as I'd thought. Not very good, but not annoyingly bad either. Whore, Illuminate Eliminate and Psywar didn't work at all live, but apart from that they did a good job.

Necrobutcher seemed to have an absolute blast on stage. Seemed to really enjoy himself and Teloch seemed to enjoy himself, but you couldn't see his face as he's joined the latest tend in black metal, following Mgla and Svartidaudi as far as his image goes. Which is a bit of a problem to be honest. Attila being the only one with corpseish paint works well because he's the vocalist, but Teloch wearing his stuff looks a bit out of place considering what the rest of the band looks like. He did look awesome, though, but perhaps a BIT cheaper looking than mentioned Mgla and Svartidaudi.

And Charles Hedger looked like he was hating it. Just stood there and did his job, and that was it. Didn't look like he was into it at all.

But the highlight oh the show was Attila. He looked great and his theatricals were awesome on the night. He looked like a relaxed, black metallic version of a cybergoth dancer with his arm movements, with both a skull and inverted cross in hand. A lot will hate this, but I thought it worked really well, even though it shouldn't.

That was Attila like, just without the leg movements. It was so corny, yet so fucking cool. No idea how he pulled it off.

I've had a massive kick on Necrophobic the last days. Swedish black/death metal which at times goes into both melodic death/black and thrash metal territory. The earliest albums are my favourites, but Death to All, released in 2009 are pretty fucking cool as well. But it lacks the awesome production of the two first albums, and isn't as strong song wise either. But still awesome. This shit is highly recommended. The second, Darkside, is probably my favourite right now.

This probably isn't of much interest to peope here, but there's finally a official comp with their demo, EP and album out these days. This shit is heavily recommended. Raw, brutal and occult black metal of the filthiest kind. Sarcofago meets Beherit. It sounds absolutely disgusting.

Depends on the music. A lot of music sounds superior with headphones, while a lot sounds superior with speakers. Some sounds great with both headphones and speakers.

I don't know shit about speakers and all that, but I've got a pair of Dynavoice Magic F-6 EX for my vinyl player... which I have yet to try.

I need to get some decent speakers for my laptop as well. But I am a cheap bastard who hates to spend money.

Yuletide is the time from the 24th of December to the 6th of January. Yule was a pagan "festival" similar to christmas, but with time it evolved into what we know as christmas. So in 2014 it's basically christmas time. I think.

Yeah, they're both very similar with Sunshine being the better film. Other similar films would be Sphere, Pandorum, Alien and THe Black Hole.

Especially The Black Hole. It's not horror, but Event Horizon seems to have gotten a lot of its ideas from the mentioned film. And I mean a lot.

Hellraiser - I I rewatched thiis last night. It's been almost 30 years and it still feels both fresh and original. Fantastic creature design, bloody perfect special effects, monsterous atmosphere, amazing cast and a great story. It's got everything! Fantastic in every possibe way.

Ashley Laurence is amazing in the film. Why on earth didn't she get more popular? She's beyond beautiful as well. Shame.

I'm working at a school and today, on "my watch" of course, one of the kids thought it would be wise to pee in a drawer. I don't know this kid too well, though, so I told someone who know him and it got dealt with.

I had to look over two rooms where some kida were playing with lego, and as I was about to check on the kids in the small room one of the kids came out and started talking to me:

Him: Bear, he just peed in the drawer
    Me: no, he didn't
    Him: yes, he did
    Me: are you sure?
Him: yes, it's in this drawer
Me: what? You sure? This one *points*

I guess he already knows bands such as Bathory, Celtic Frost, Hellhammer, Venom, Kreator, Sodom, Destruction and so on, these classic bands with a pretty big status within the black and thrash genre.

Here's a few lesser known bands you should check out:

NME were one of the early blak thrashers, playing in a similar style as Venom, just more blackened.
Sabbat were one of the first extreme metal bands from Asia, playing black metal in the begining before transforming into black/thrash in 99. Lots of people consider their early outputs black/thrash as well, but I don't. For me it's pure black metal as black as only black metal can be. One of the best bands ever.
Aura Noir is an "all star" Norwegian black/thrash band with members from Cadaver, Dødheimsgard, Mayhem, Ved Buens Ende and more. One of the more legendary black/thrash bands around.
Bulldozer is another legendary band, released some fantastic albums in the 80's.
Abigail & Barbatos is the bands of Yasuyuki Suzuki, a legendary Japanese black metaller. Abigail started out as a pure black metal band but got thrasier after the first album, and Barbatos is a mroe punky version of Abigail. He also have a black/thrash band with Joel Grind of Toxic Holocaust called Tiger Junkies.
Nocturnal is one of the many bands of Avenger, playing raw, teutonic black/thrash in the vein of old Detruction, Sodom and Kreator.
Cruel Force is a Bathory-worship band. One of the best out of the newer black/thrash bands IMO. The Rise of Satanic Might is a modern classic IMO.
Sauron plays raw, yet catchy black/thrash of the purest kind.

I could probably continue forever. Love me some good black/thrash like.

    Alien
Pretty unusual when I rewatch a movie but after hearing about the death of the original alien concept artist, I felt the need to watch the movie again after watching the trailer. And my god is it legendary. Seriously, what a gem. About a spaceship crew attempting to escape from the extraterrestrial creature which, literally, just wants to breed with us humans. xD I wasn't scared while watching it, but it's just so creepy and eerie and executed so brilliantly I was mesmerised from the start to end. I'm not all up for any sexual undertones but damn was H.R. Giger one freaky alien lover. Anywho, If you haven't watched it already, what are you doing? GO NOW!
