I'm really shocked that this thread isn't blowing up around CHEDOARA. I listened for the first time this morning and I'm honestly blown away! There's a similarity to Vulgar/WTD-era Diru in the overall feel of the record, but all wrapped up in this interesting proggy-djent package that I think a lot of other bands don't execute nearly as well. I haven't listened to the members' prior bands, but I love this record so far.

Don't get me wrong, it's certainly a strong album and an astounding one when compared to first albums from other VK artists Miles ahead of that terrible EP they released many moons ago!

I mean, people still like and buy Chris Brown's stuff. There's probably a more scientific term for such a delusional behaviour.

All I can think listening to it is that it's a really fantastic first album - leaps and bounds above many of their peers, and I think if they stick around in the scene, their next one will be ridiculous. One of the few bands that I feel I absolutely HAVE to see in Japan next year. Actually, with this style of music, I think they'd be really successful in front of a western audience, too, though I know getting VK bands to the states is wishful thinking in most cases.

Absolutely love the look. Can't help but make the Aliene Mariage comparison with that hat. Then again, these guys do the whole Key Party/Matina-era VK deal so well, so any comparison to those bands feels pretty apt. Really excited to give this a spin upon release.

Same here. There was a lot of hype for it on here but after the record dropped there wasn't much activity. I assume people were disappointed?

I myself built it up in my head quite a lot but after a few listens I find it just 'OK'. There are some great songs on here so i'm not sure why.

    Hello.

I've been browsing your lovely community from the shadows for the past few years and have finally decided to dive in and post a bit.  I've been a visual-kei fan for a little over ten years, but I fell a out of love with the scene for a good while due to other interests and a lack of compelling output from the newer artists I was aware of.  My personal favorite bands are/were deadman (and literally everything aie is involved with), Dir en grey, Vidoll, Kagerou, Plastic Tree, Pierrot, etc.  I used to run a small VK forum that very badly wanted to be an English "Visunavi-esque" webpage featuring a small encyclopedia of bands, but it was a failure of sorts outside of helping me build stronger relationships with other friends in the community.

Outside of this, I love video games and fashion.  I play guitar in a band called Barrow and a band called Weathered which has a confusing internet presence due to a cease-and-desist induced name change.

Thank you for reading and I look forward to getting to know the community.

I would say welcome but you're not exactly new. lol. But I am looking forward to your posts around here.
It's really hard to compete with the list you've got there (I'm a big fan of a lot of those bands too), especially with the long list of band break ups the last couple of years. But maybe we can help! Even more so if you're interested in the non visual bands as well.

I took a quick listen to your music. Awesome stuff! If you guys ever gig down in FL, I'd be sure to check it out.

nomemorial got a reaction from Ro plz in DIR EN GREY - ARCHE
This record sincerely feels like the most energetic effort in Dir en grey's more recent catalog  -- it's exciting and surprising, a bit more straightforward than Dum Spiro Spero or Uroboros, but I think it's a better direction overall.  I personally consider everything after The Marrow of a Bone to be where Dir en grey truly began to reinvent themselves as a "metal" band and out of those albums, this one resonates the most with me at the moment.  Granted, this is going off of two listens, but it appeals to the part of me that likes heavy music while feeling a bit more like an older Dir en grey record in some aspects.  The choruses soar and Kyo's vocals are absolutely standout, while I feel the rest of the band is really hitting all of the right marks.  "Un deux" is a fantastic opener and I think skipping the typical "epic" intro really sets the tone for the record, while it closes out perfectly with "Revelation of Mankind," which feels so much like "Saku" at certain points that it's almost chill-inducing; it's hardly the same song, but it's the chaos leading to melody that feels similar.  I'm beyond pleasantly surprised with this album and can only hope that they make their way back to the USA soon; seeing them live last year brought them back to the forefront of my favorite artists and while DSS may not have been my favorite record, this is just an absolutely tremendous effort, above and beyond all expectations.  "ARCHE" is quickly becoming a contender for album-of-the-year.
