We were doing it back in 2005-2006 when Mao formed Sadie and everyone knew he liked DEG, so naturally the comparisons were made right there for each album they churned out. I guess it's easier to point out this difference now than it was back then 🤷‍♂️ Glad Mao is doing well in THE THIRTEEN, and even then he had a rough beginning with this project too lol.

DIMLIM are already known as the Saviors of VK haha, its almost fitting.

It has been that long. I was into VK a year or so longer but the people who taught me were around in 2002-2003, right when the boom internationally was beginning. I do wish they stuck around though . Might help a bit to keep VK relevant in the USA.

Check out the live report on the GazettE Tour in NYC recently and share your thoughts/views on the demographic of new VK listeners that you saw for an audience.

Oh BTW, reading your responses here @ambivalentideal I can see you know your history haha.
That's real good. New users are popping up constantly now, that they outweigh the minority of us that stuck around lol.

In a way this is a great idea @Original Saku. I voted for you testing these waters however muahahaha.

In the past I've wanted to listen to some of the mixtapes created by others, under themes I'd be interested in (even though I was not participating in the Trade-Off itself). Rather than go out and request a copy for myself to listen to (I am too embarrassed, busy at the time, or I receive no reply), I can simply go into this section of the Trade-Off and download the mixtape since it's free to listen to and Ok'ed to be shared by the creator.

The only simpler way to share the tapes would be to just add a spoiler tag under the list of partners, and then populate it with all the links (titled most likely) once the organizer receives them. It does create extra work for the organizer however, and so I'm not too sure if its gonna be more of a hassle than it already is. Having said that though, I think the extra effort is worth it if it means allowing potentially new Trade-Off participants to sign up on the next one since they can sample a mixtape.

Not sure how we can organize the user's feedback outside the Trade-Off Thread however.
I guess a separate thread would be OK, and then link it somewhere in the Trade-Off's OP.

After a couple listens, I have to say that I quite enjoy INFINITUM. It's not the album I was wishing for but it's interesting and engaging and in the end, that's more valuable.

I guess the real challenge with every new sukekiyo album is letting go of your preconceptions of what they "should" sound like. My personal concept of their sound is primarily influenced by songs like elisabeth addict, in all weathers, focus, 12時20分金輪際, foster mother etc... this blend of something delicate and intimate with something strange and feral, this almost operatic sense and scope of drama and the patience in balancing the subtleties and intricacies of silence and melody with excessive temperament and chaos. ADORATIO went a slightly different route and partly exchanged a wider arc of cohesion and emotional immersion for structural liberty and immediacy. INFINITUM feels similar in that way but it's even more direct and "short of breath"... which is fine but it just doesn't make me feel as involved.

So confession: I never got around to listening to their first album 絶景色 (Zekkeishoku) back in the day. Only the Akatsuki single.

Well I'm listening to it right now and wow, the album definitely is appropriate for its age.
It definitely sounds like music from 2006, and what they said about Shou sounding like he has a cold are true lol. The album as a first listen is very easy to digest, as they aren't trying too hard to make an impact. Sounds like they are enjoying themselves honestly.

Hello, everyone!! My name is Alex, I'm 24, and I've been listening to vk for wow, a while now. I dunno if this counts as being a veteran or not lol but I discovered vk in around late 2006 with An Cafe, but didn't get hog-wild crazy into vk until the summer of 2007. The last time I posted on a vk forum was back when batsu was still alive lmao. I think I was GentleLie on there?? And I was 12 which was a talking point or at least I thought it was. Anyone else from batsu? Anyway, it's so nice to see a vk forum still in existence! I've never really gotten all the way out of vk 100%, but I've waxed and waned over the years. I just recently got back into vk pretty full force this year after seeing the GazettE in Dallas, which was my first time seeing them, and it brought back so much for me. They were one of my top bands when I first got into vk, so it was really special for me to see them finally. I'll list some of the bands I liked from different points in my vk history just so y'all can get a feel for who I am I guess. : P

early: An Cafe, Ayabie, Malice Mizer, Moi dix Mois, the GazettE, Alice Nine, LM.C, Dir en Grey
Mid: Versailles, Phantasmagoria, hurts, Screw, lynch., Dio, D, aicle, Kaya, vistlip, Canzel, Sugar, Schwarz Stein
Late: AND, VanessA, Lycaon, Megaromania, NEGA, 9GOATS BLACK OUT, Born, -OZ-, Unsraw, Dog in the PWO,
Super late, aka the last band I paid attention to actively: MEJIBRAY

I'm slowly discovering current bands and having a lot of fun doing so! I just found out about DIMLIM and am currently obsessed with their album CHEDOARA. I would super appreciate any recs! Nice to meet everyone, and I look forward to talking with y'all.

Seen the documentary myself, as well as other ideas for shows like Tidying Up with Marie Kondo on Netflix, and an entire Minimalism channel by Matt D'Avella on YouTube. Fascinating that people have that much of an attachment to things or items and have the inability to see what materialism has done to America.

Is there an equivalent to digital minimalism out there? Lol that's my problem atm.

Oh and @Gesu, Toys"R"Us can burn to the ground.
I used to work there in my teen years and on top of the terrible pay, you witness first hand why the retail business is as horrible to work in as they say and all the stories you hear from other people come true. I think the worst encounter I had with a customer was when there was a misprint in their advertisements for one of those Jeep Wrangler car things from Fisher Price (ad was like a digit off reg price), and this lady came into the store bouncing from employee to employee demanding that we honor the screw up. When we told her we didn't carry stock she nearly reeee'd before this was even a thing, and demanded one of us be responsible and get reprimanded/fired right in front of her for not doing our jobs. These people exist. The horrors of middle aged moms yelling at me about where the fuck the Zhu Zhu Pets were, like they were some sort of crack will haunt my memories forever.

At lunch so I can talk a bit.

Believe it or not but I'd be the first to advocate against posting things like this. Other mods can vouch for this lol.
MH is a community that I feel does not need the drama/events of our IRL in it, and I want to be sure it stays that way in order to keep the original concept of a forum intact. We like VK/Japanese Rock, and that will be the main focus.

Granted, the community has proven itself to be very accepting and open to people's thoughts from all over the world, and for that I'm thankful.

I don't believe in any human notion of a god, but I'm open to the idea of a higher universal force. I was raised Christian and what I hated the most was being dragged to church. People getting exorcised isn't something kids should be exposed to tbh, so my relationship with religion is a bit weird. I love blasphemy and religious taboo stories even though it's scary, I suppose it's a thrill for me.

I used to pray everyday in my early teens,  when I realised I did it out of fear, I was freed. Worship out of fear of punishment just doesn't make sense, after all this God is supposed to be all loving. Another thing that makes no sense is a passage in the bible in which God says we shouldn't worship other idols because he is a jealous god. Is there anything more human and flawed than jealousy? Doesn't sound like an omnipotent, omniscient all powerful being to me. Not to mention how petty God is in the old testament, then someone just goes and changes the story like that into the new testament? So which is it? Lol no thanks.

If people need religion to get them through the day, that's cool. But most use it to justify their prejudices. The teachings at heart are good, but humans of course, shit all over it. That's why churches are cesspools for some of the worst scum on Earth, its the easiest way to manipulate and use poor people who use faith to survive. See: Brazilian churches selling holy socks and holy brooms for hundreds of $, bullying those who can't offer their salary to the church.

Still, I'm interested in religions and love learning about them. Some stories in the bible are actually quite entertaining.

From what I've heard as rumors in the past, Mizérable (as well as Vanilla) were originally intended for a possible MM album (assuming he stayed) that never was.
I do agree that Gackt was way better as a VK artist, but the way he had distanced himself (and kept his musical contributions to himself too) near the end of his era with MM, tells us that he wanted more.

I'm now convinced that he wanted to spread some of his X Japan essence on her for future manipulation, and the only thing capable of doing that is that scarf possessed with Hide's spirit that he "lost track of as the wind blew".
