Probably the genre I'm listening the most to right now, I guess my favorite Post-Rock albums ever are "Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas To Heaven" by GY!BE and "Hymn To The Immortal Wind" by Mono, both of them are incredibly intense. I highly recommend Her Name Is Calla's album "The Quiet Lamb" by the way, great mix of Post-Rock, classical intruments and some acoustic stuff plus great vocals. Has anybody got the recent Mogwai album? I think it's decent, but anything but spectacular. The only song that I truly love is "Song For A Forgotten Future" on the bonus disc, much better than the actual album if you ask me.
  2. Got this album as a promotional copy for reviewing and I have to say I definitely agree with you. I only know a few of their other songs, but they never really managed to impress me while the new release sounds just awesome. They asked me for an interview, so if you have any interesting questions (since you seem to know their discography better than I do) you can send me them via PM if you like to

Wow, I nearly forgot about these guys. Glad that they are back with a new release, samples sound decent.
  4. Kaleidoscope

I completely agree with you. I'm not that much of a harsh vocalist, but his growls sound anything but weak - there are definitely better vocalists in that style out there, but to me his growls sound really intense and don't lack power at all. Didn't expect that his technique would go from horrible to very good (He's using his false chords, isn't he?). Guess it's still a matter of perception though. Anyway, I like the samples, I'm now really looking forward to Dum Spiro Spero since I also liked Hageshisa. Hope there will be some melodic songs where Kyo doesn't overestimate his range though, Lotus really bothered me.

Hey there, I'm writing on behalf of Seiji. He won't be here for some weeks or maybe even longer because he's moving, he will come online and report sometimes though.
  6. Kaleidoscope

His technique when it comes to clean singing is actually pretty good (even in the beginning he didn't mess it up), but I'm not sure about his raw singing and the screaming since it's hard to identify his technique. Sounds sometimes really raspy to me, not sure how he does it. I'm pretty sure this whole vocal chords trauma is because he kept singing for a long time during this coughing he talked about though, it's probably not too surprising that it left some damage. Well, let's hope he can recover one day, I still don't give up hope that he'll find a way to rebuild his damaged vocal chord.

I knew this would happen sooner or later but still I'm incredibly sad. They really meant a lot to me and were probably the only band I always loved no matter how much my taste changed, I somehow always felt they should play music together until their were old men having released lots of stuff people could complain about being so much worse than their old albums I'm glad that I could at least see them twice and thankful for all the great songs they released, both old and new stuff. Hope to see the guys again in the future, I guess at least the other three won't quit making music. I feel terribly sorry for Hizumi though, I guess there isn't anything more terrible than this for a vocalist who's truly dedicated to his work. Hope that he will find a way to recover someday and return, it would be really sad if he could never sing again.

I love long songs, wouldn't have imagined that some years ago since I couldn't bring the motivation to listen to songs longer than eight minutes My favorite long song is April.#02 by Kashiwa Daisuke, which is about 27:36. His songs Stella and Write Once, Run Melos, which are about half an hour too, are also awesome. The longest song I've listened to so far is Heliogabalus by Rorcal, 70 minutes of Doom/Drone - hard to get into but really intense. Other favorite long songs of mine: -Condor & River by Her Name Is Calla -Most long songs by Envy -Burial At Sea and The Battle To Heaven by Mono -Past Midnight by The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble -Pulse/Surreal by Lantlôs -Sur l'océan couleur de fer and the two parts of Écailles de lune by Alcest -Suicide Season by Bring Me The Horizon (tell me what you want, it's amazing) -Zu Träumen wecke sich, wer kann and the whole Durch den Traum album by Dornenreich -He Films The Clouds Pt.2 by Maybeshewill -Like It's Your Last by Devil Sold His Soul -Prayer by Mutyumu There are a lot more, but those ones are the first that come to my mind.
  10. Damn, for the first few minutes you got me D:

This. I'm sure they wouldn't do such an announcement on April 1st, even they should know the meaning of that day. I bet tomorrow they will announce a new album or new single Anyway, pretty hardcore for an April Fool's prank
  12. 'xcept Champ of course. I always thought Brian was about 19 or 20 when Teenage Angst came out D:
  13. haha that's cool but Brian had his nails black too hehehe, I guess they looked like really manly black nails - KbHkwrGgsoA Well, he was introduced to him during their BFTS-era, so the nails don't count anymore Guess my parents have never even heard of them before though. Am I the only one who got into them after his teenage years? D: I get a Miyavi-vibe out of this weird Finnish song too by the way Better than German children music if you ask me. Was never embarassed of my childhood CDs though, it's more like I'm really proud of my awesome Pokemon and Dragonball soundtracks ;D
  14. I thought everyone educated their parents with Brian Molko approx. 10 years before TH even popped out? Strangely enough my dad could immediately tell Brian was a guy when he saw him for the first time D: My parents' main argument in the Bill discussion was that he painted his nails (which of course a boy would never do).
  15. I remember the awesome discussions with my parents wether Bill was a boy or a girl. Still think Durch den Monsun has a nice melody though

I agree with most what OldCheesey said. You sang very cleanly, but you do indeed sound a bit too much like Ai - would be interesting to see if your voice always sounds like that, if not, you should to try to sing the next song a bit more in your own style. Nevertheless, good job overall
  17. Kaleidoscope

Since people rarely comment on vocal covers here I will take the chance I don't know the original song, but I like your version - gives me a kind of singer-songwriter feeling, simple but emotional. Good job!
  18. Kaleidoscope

I think we can exclude re-recordings since Hizumi doesn't work with the band right now - not sure about the remastering though, some tracks on IMMORTAL (for example Closer To Ideal) were slightly changed.
  19. Kaleidoscope

I'm all in for this, I'd love to participate again!
  20. Kaleidoscope

-Post-Rock -The style of Screamo bands like Envy and Gantz are playing -High screams in general -Everything piano-driven -Really melancholic stuff in generel, genre doesn't matter -High, emotional male voices (like Brian Molko or Chris Corner) -Sludge with both clean and harsh vocals (like Intronaut) -IDM -Shoegaze -Hipster Black Metal -Carnivalesque themes (don't know how to describe it ) -Weird accents
  21. Yeah, you're probably right, I guess if he did in his recent condition, it wouldn't do him nor Daisuke justice. I'm really excited to see if you can distinguish the different voices in that "big" song, wonder what they did there
  22. Looks promising, I like the idea of all those artists finishing his album. Wish Hizumi would have got a solo part instead of Wataru though :/

Denovali Records sent me their debut and "From The Stairwell" to review them and I have to say they are pretty awesome! I only listened to Bohren & Der Club of Gore before and although I'm into experimental music, I could not really get into them - The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble got me at the first listen, I love both the debut and their recent album. Guess I prefer the new one though, the IDM-like feeling of their selftitled was kind of cool, but I think the laid-back style fits them better. Have you listened to The Mount Fuji Doomjazz Corporation's new album too? Just epic, although really hard to get into. /edit: Ah, just saw that you mentioned "Anthropomorphic" in your first post too
  24. Kaleidoscope

Could be interesting although I only liked their first release so far.
  25. Kaleidoscope

Sad news. I feel especially sorry for Yuuki, I wasn't big fan of his vocals but it really sucks if you have to give up singing.
