New album in Nov 2014? Cool thing. Also that "mode of Gauze" seems intriguing...
-
Lol will they ever ban Obscure from their setlist? I wonder how much the second setlist will differ from this. And they really understand how to throw in these little gems like Aoi Tsuki... I hope the song doesn't get pervertized as much as Byou Shin with non fitting growls and that shit.

Too complicated in japanese. Also, every smallest writer can pull off the most beautiful poems in japanese, so it gets boring really quick. If I listen to japanese lyrics, that's enough beauty for me.

Didn't Eros/Ice say before the hiatus the concept of Xodiack was "stupid and he didn't like it"? One of the most epic breakup lines ever. I don't think Xodiack will come back as Xodiack. There's a chance Eros will come back.. but since he broke loose with Starwave Records tehreÄs little chance we will get re-releases or anything from Xodiack ever again. So if you love Xodiack, get your shit before it's gone, that's the safest thing to do.

So the new album will have "simple, shallow compositions" as an overall theme? I didn't know I would ever say that again, but SHIT THIS WAS GREAT! Really, I expected the chorus to go off the flow, like they did with the two last songs, but really in this song the damage is taken much less. In fact I like it as it is. It is so strong it makes me get reminded of the WORLD RULER. damn.. I still can't believe I love a new nightmare song. damn... and i somehow have faith they keep the song great for the remaining part. I'd even buy the album if they threw out rewrite and Dizzy first.. and start remaking their demo songs already!

It's debatable how comparing Neo-VK bands like Diaura and Mejibray will reveal any "copying". Besides the fact that they probably share their ghost writers, the newer VK sounds so extremely unvaried to begin with, it's not difficult to "find" similarities if you want to find them.
-
This will suck...nothing will bring back the good old nightmare right now..instead this crap they released recently
-
Both is ridicuouls.. and though I have lost faith in fanbase humanity already I doubt that 5 singles/3 months will be accepted that well by the fanbase.. or at least any more than such a pretentious "documentary" DVD. If we look at Nightmare, their new avex contract is slowly firing back on them and their flood of worthless singles gets more and more ignored.
-
So you buy the thing for half the stuff that's actually in there.. wow@consumerism There are these great bands which released like 3 or 4 live DVDs in total in their carreer... just to put in some perspective. There were times where you actually craved for live recordings, precisely bc there weren't so much of them. But that's only my story to it.
-
Wow. Reading through the ones until now, seems like the Gazette really got lost lately...
-
1. Nightmare 2. 9goats Black out 3. the PIASS 4. Malice Mizer 5. Dir en grey [VK times] 6. Rentrer en Soi 7. exist trace 8. X Japan 9. Girugamesh 10. Versailles .. The order gets wahsed up in the last 5 ones. Bands that didn't quite make it into the list: Phantasmagoria (I only love their softer songs =requiem floral edition), DELUHI (sometimes great, sometimes SUPER CHEESY), Sendai Kamotsu (their new songs are horse shit), Nega (vocalist kills it, though big potential), DEATHGAZE (don't think they're very autonomous these days), lynch (only one album was phenomenal =the avoided sun; the rest is meh), Xodiack (too little material, though totally GREAT).
-
Mediocre band, horrible vocalist... but there are some really cool songs in their repetoire, like quadrangle, jigyaku paranoid or V-Rock is Dead
-
The biggest bands have released like 3 or 4 live recordings in total and they were still famous. It's just ridiculous. At least i won't go to buy this and try to support a coming end to this crazy marketing.I wonder how long it wil ltake until the management comes up with 2 documentary/live/interview DVDs per year, and the devoted fans will still buy it because, duh, that's what fans ought to do, right. I mean these two old songs, maaan. -.-

Oh I like this! let me complement with Nightmare. Hmmm..how would they call this album today? I think I got it... ナイトメア : 「Monumental」 - The praised Nightmare 01. The World [The World Ruler] 02. 時分ノ花 [anima] 03. 惰性ブギー [時分ノ花] 04. ジャイアニズム碌 [anima] 05. Fly me to the Zenith [GAIA ~ Zenith Side] 06. サバト [さばと] *Demo* 07. Rem_ [NIGHTMARE] 08. White Room [Killer Show] 09. UGLY DUCK'S WILL [Mimic] 10. HATE [ultimate Circus] 11. Errors [scums] 12. シアン [Libido] 13. アルミナ [The World Ruler] 14. Lost in Blue [Majestical parade] 15. Nazuki [Raven Loud Speeeaker] 16. 東京傷年 [Libido] 17. Believe [ultimate Circus] 18. message [anima] 19. ネオテニー [anima] 20. 13th [believe] This is more of a nostalgic Best-Of, since it is made out of an originally 13-track long playlist that consisted of the first songs I've heard by this band. That's not to say they're in there just for the feeling, they're in there because they're simply great and songs like The World, アルミナ, 惰性ブギー or White Room are often among those recommended for newbies anyway. I often care about smooth transitions more than the actual content, because I believe a continuous listen experience makes a big impact. Combine this with a combination of the rockiest and cmost chilling songs this band has to offer (like message, 時分ノ花, HATE, ネオテニー or Fly me to the Zenith) and the job is well done - for me (and hopefully for others, too). So this Best-Of presents the best rocky and softer songs, without going in any of the both extremes. That's not needed anyway, because Nightmare work best in between the spectrums. Of course the opener is the World...what else. Seriously. That's THE song that made them famous in the outside world...along with アルミナ of course.

The most horrible song I've ever heard being re-recorded? Hmmm... no, not excited, sorry.

The title song shines predominantly through the chorus, and there's no more really to it. The main riff and bridge all sound like there will be coming an outburst of organic melody any second, but then it stays in its form and only develops a bit during the little solo. All this makes me think that Dir en grey didn't really leave the formula of DSS and Unraveling... they just changed it very subtle. All in all it still has this "must sound somehow weird and unpredictable" and the obvious way it is done makes it pretty weak. I loved all releases since Different Sense, but this is a..very dishonest..letdown. 4/10 Ruten no tou..nah, it's an acoustic version.. it's not bad, but I can't bring myself to accept it as a full song and so *no rating* Live version? Skip. *no rating*

@nekkichi Oh yeah good to mention, I forgot about that. A pity, bc I think both videos are excellent (ASOM and RInkaku). I wouldn't say there are strict formulae on Kondous work. If I watch through the list on his website it's pretty various. It depends on the budget and the artist's favors I believe. But I might wait into eternity until I see a Dir en grey video like Behemoth's "Blow your trumpets Gabriel"... That's why my focus on the PVs with Dir en grey is not so high... ... well I think that comparison was a bit too ambitioned rofl
-
@nekkichi shit will land on yt eventually anyway, or somewhere else. I'd rather stick with the CD releases. EDIT the only MV DVD I ever bought was from rammstein and that's worth it bc you actually get to see something... not to compare with this cheapass sustain the untruth video.
-
White Room from Nightmare? Yeah makes sense haha. And that' why they didn't show the Unraveling PV since that's going to be the only new highlight on..what is it? AVERAGE LATIN No one really needs those PV DVDs anymore these days. I couldn't imagine buying a highly overprized DVD just to watch a few PVs I watched tons of time already.

I didn't want to appear rude in this. And I didn't say stop listening if you don't like it. I distance myself from that kind of attitude. But to be clear I just find it strange for someone to ask about someone elses preference because of an own dislike to it. To the "discussion": Man, that can only happen in a Dir en grey forum, can it? Or at least it would be nice if it actually would..because this is the wrong place again.. I can't understand why people always need to pretend knowledge for something not knowable. In the end they only explain what an individual thinks of it. It's pointless. Why don't just say "don't know"? So much easier and honest. And doesn't provoke pointless discussions of course.

I don't get all these comparisons to old Diru, like Vulgar etc. It fits perfectly into the row of Rinkaku and Unraveling, and nowhere else...in my opinion. But I get now why Kaoru and Toshiya spoke of "simplicity". There would be really no better way to describe that song. The unpresent vocals and the only time the song actually gets some substance is in the chorus... I mean it's not so far from their past work, considering Kaoru's quote on saying "Unraveling is not representative for their current direction. Because it totally is. Sounding crazy and avant-garde, no matter what. It didn't grow on me at all by the first listen, the chorus gets boring quickly. Maybe after a few more listens. Why do you think you're supposed to get it? It's just a strange question to ask. He's another human being at the other end of this world and he has a different taste on music and expression. Get used to it or don't.
