What to say to it..? They have been totally commercialized on a musical and visual level. If they continue like Virgin and Diamond, there's not very much to cheer upon them. They're nice to look at right now, that's all.
  2. DogManX

Good point. All I can add to that as a final thought is this: ..if people want to find something, they do find something. Now let's get on topic again.

@nekkichi so you're actually excited? Yeah obviously. I also noticed that they copied a large portion of "bottom of the death valley (kisou)" for the song "bottom of the death valley (unraveling)". the 2002 version also literally sounded like mein teil (rammstein) from 2004. those f**kers, probably all on kaoru's account.

I don't see the "creepiness" fading entirely in this song. At least not from what I've heard in the studio preview. It's just that veery poppish (final) chorus that makes the difference, I guess. I like it so far, but I get the feeling it will get boring in no time. There has to be something else to this song.

I only know the gazette and I don't like them... 1. Gorillaz - Latin SImone (Que Pasa Contigo) 2. Dir en grey - Child Prey 3. Sigh - Requiem/Nostalgia 4. Lil Wayne - A Milli 5. Epica - Delirium 6. Defiled - Defeat Of Sanity 7. Melechesh - Sacred Geometry 8. Absu - Circles Of The Oath 9. Rammstein - Benzin 10. Bloodhound Gang - Uhn Tiss Uhn Tiss Uhn Tiss A close one between Absu and Epica. Defiled is great too. But Epica is just epic in this.

Bear, your original comment was >> And I don't get the whole "they shouldn't growl because they don't have the training" thing that some have said in this thread. One needs training to growl and use harsh vocals? When did someone need any training to do this shit? If you don't know "shit", don't talk "shit", easy as that. Growling, screaming etc. of any sort needs special training to not fuck your voice up. Every professional will tell you that. VK vocalists are usually no professionals, either not on the screaming part, or on no parts. Their screams or growls not only sound like total shit, they also damaged their vocal chords convincingly often now. Growling legends from old times are not so many in numbers, and for a reason. Listen to Vader, Death or Necrophagia. Even on the first records you won't get that diarrhea balls-cut sound some Vk guys are very talented in to produce (Nega, Unsraw, D etc. etc.). Either you scream very loud into a cheap mic, distort it and sell it as "growling", as Yuuki did it, or you plainly do it wrong, fuck up, get operated, don't learn from it, fuck up again and be where the guy from D'espairsray is today. There are not so many options in between. And your theory of people spontaneously doing it different to "reinvent" it somehow doesn't really stand either, after so many fails and hospital visits. I love non-singing vocals, if they are done right. In VK, in my opinion there has been a real increase in quality recently. I still prefer non-VK bands as my source though.
  7. Depends heavily on the band and how they manage to play live. I love listening to bands like Rammstein or Nightmare live, bc they just nail it. Cannibal Corpse or Ensiferum are not bad either.
  8. DogManX

You mean he invented the "talking while chewing on hot tomatoes"? nevermind. But his growling is pretty decent, still. Although I love him taking a break from it in Sukekiyo.
  9. DogManX

It's like a satanic version of 9goats. I'm interested now in the others.. so far I think Aftermath was ok, but not that stunning.
  10. DogManX

Sounds like an upbeat Dozing Green to me. Or Kodou <Unraveling Style>. And has kind of a good omen to it. Kyo really made it for me here! So far I like the chorus (that's probably going to be the chorus) but I don't really share your doubts about the representation value of these 20 seconds. It was often said now that this song is going to sound very "simple" and I somehow believe this song won't stray too far from this sample in total. It's not like Dir en grey are Porcupine tree or sth like that.
  11. DogManX

I was not talking about the instrumentals, only Kyo. Sry for confusion. Of course I also complain about Kaoru or Shinya fucking up, but with Kyo.. I mean it's difficult since that guy likes to "fuck up" on purpose and doesn't make a secret out of it either. Fans should be aware of that. EDIT and I rarely hear complaints about Kyos singing style live. In the VK scene I encountered most ones, which is... not surprising to me.
  12. DogManX

Ok it is well known what Kyo's attitude to singing live is (for anyone who read) and that someone should expect him jumping around, getting out of breath or choosing the most difficult way of singing whereever he can. It may be uncomfortable for fans who normally listen to "regular" live jrock bands, but it is what it is when it comes to Dir en grey. This grade of expression is far from being unique in the music scene, but it does shine out of jrock acts. Dir en grey performing is not about bringing out sterile studio quality, and that's what so many fans love about the band.
  13. DogManX

I've noticed that too. I really don't like if bands play into the studio what they can't reproduce live. If someone came to me and said "hey dude, Nile sucks live, the drummer doesn't get the beat straight in the last songs" I don't give a damn since George Kollias goes beyond human physique with his drumming..but for Dir en grey.. they're really not the technical dudes. With Kyo it's not so bad since it's part of his sophistication to go beyond his limits live and basically not giving a damn if a sounds goes out his mouth at all.
  14. DogManX

Yep that's reality. People are aging.
  15. DogManX

Was I the only one who noticed that whenever Dir en grey were asked about their attempt on the unraveling EP, each member gives a different answer? And it's not that they say "for MY part [...]" They really don't seem to talk with each other very much.
  16. DogManX

Wow that's awesome! How long did it take you to do them?
  17. DogManX

Awesome, their first time in australia! Hope this gets recorded!

I don't understand this position of "were VK" anywway. It's the same problem with Dir en grey. I mean never in their history girugamesh have seriously been like a classic VK band. Their music could as well have been done by SOAD or Linkin Park and their visuals were...what? A bit of black eyeliner and dark long hair? If anything, they look more VK now than then, but really: it's not VK just because you're japanese and wear some make-up. But anyway for me girugamesh is long gone anyway. I mean that in a sense that I won't give a shit about their new stuff, because there are 1000s of other bands I could prefer which do what giru do just better. And from 13's reborn to GO there are always a few songs I like and dislike, so I don't really care. I have parts on every of their records to enjoy, and if they will continue doing that "pop in heavy chord disguise", hell yes they should do it, but don't expect me to pay for it. Ah yeah and the new singles were all boring and could have been on GO altogether.

    Still Skyrim..but now with add-on!

Actually he is not a vampire. He is just a human, but he plays a vampire sometimes. Oh I actually know a few visual kei bands which have some "longplayers" in them. Moi Dix Mois or The Piass or anti-feminism for example. Seem to be just fine with their doings although they are in the mids of their 40s already. isn't Yuki from Versailles..ah Jupiter even older than Kamijo?
  21. DogManX

Kaoru actually had a long extinct trilobite on his head. It was like the most awesome visual kei costume I've ever seen. And you're not all rotten and saggy if you are 40. Sure if you spend your life staring at VK booklets your sense of reality gets distorted it seems.
  22. DogManX

The people who do it the most are the ugliest in the end. LIke Hizaki etc. I know many won't like to hear this here, very UNPOPULAR opinion, but if you depend on so much "extra"-stuff on yourself when you perform or shoot, you have a problem with your self-confidence (does that word exist?). At least I think so.

  24. DogManX

I have to say Kagrra. I like the midi folk parts of Kiryus music, but that guy sounds like a 12-year old singing.
  25. DogManX

I think it's not even that. From what I've heard Die has a fair composing part, along with Toshiya, but I think the feeling alone of doing something "else" from time to time lightens things up big time. Dir en grey now dedicated about 17 years of their life to their carreer. Just imagine. 17 years.
