  1. Damn! I didn't expect people to be so anti-crowd-funding.

The way I look at crowd-funding stuff like this is just a glorified pre-order system where you get to choose your own pre-order bonus. I think it's a great system for smaller bands who can't get the backing of labels, but still want to do the best that they can. Honestly, I would absolutely love it if more indie VK bands would jump on the bandwagon.

    Pretty much this.

If it's a band I already know, then what's the problem of "fronting" them the money and getting cool bonus items? I've done this with quite a few Western bands and have had nothing but positive experiences. I also helped contribute to the Lacroix Despheres (supposedly the first VK attempt at crowdfunding?), but the release isn't slated until this summer. Hopefully, it'll also be a smooth experience!

  2. Where are the Fast Break lovers?! Dat nougat is a game changer.

They're all incredible, but it's Big Cup or GTFO.

    Never tried that one!

Original, Dark Chocolate, Pieces, and ice cream!!!

Reese's is my childhood. Back when I could eat stuff like that and not gain weight. TAT I miss it now.

Sad to say I haven't had the dark chocolate one yet, but I tend to prefer darker chocolate, so I'm sure I'd love it!

Didn't realize it was a US only thing, poor deprived souls.

Yes, zombie. Yes. I need to start a Reese's Cup shopping service, clearly.

  3. kyoselflove & yakihiko, you know what this means...

I used to eat the pieces ones a lot hoping they were m&ms and they never were.

Also, aren't the trees / pumpkins / eggs etc all the same just different shaped? Regardless, I have yet to try the white, dark, and crunchy kind.

Lol, they might be the same. I've actually never had the trees. For some reason, I'm partial to the egg one, haha.

What is Reese's I've literally never seen/heard of it omg.

    Ditto.

    Seconding sai's comment.

A delicious chocolate/peanut butter candy in the US! I don't think Reese's is very popular internationally, because I guess peanut butter isn't eaten that much elsewhere?! I brought some to my students in Germany last year and most seemed to enjoy it, but a few hated it, haha.

minis cuz i stay thin and fabulous

Plot twist: they pack the most calories.

Original Reese's all the way. Although the Reese's eggs are nice. I just wish a delicious peanut butter combo like this wasn't so fattening.  :( So I rarely eat them. Maybe like once or twice a year.

Yes, the eggs! Yeah, I haven't eaten any in a while, but I saw the Easter pack at the store last week and I got nostalgic, haha.

  5. Wow, that's disappointing to see that no changes were made to at least "TASTE OF LIFE" and "Golden Kinema Gekijou"...

Still looking forward to hearing the rest of the album though. Although I still don't care for the female vocal sampling, "SECRET NIGHT" has grown on me.

  6. Damn, there's more older songs than I realized. I know they just showed the PV clips for them all, but I wonder if there's any chance for rerecording/remastering of any of them? (I'm mainly looking at TASTE OF LIFE and Golden Kinema Gekijou, since they came out BEFORE their first album)

  7. Very interesting that a lot of people have this reaction about Rhapsody in beauty not clicking for them!

I actually kind of feel that way about zeitgeist! I LOVE a lot of the individual songs ("Flower of life", "Meursault," "zeitgeist", etc.) but don't find the album particularly memorable overall, whereas Rhapsody of beauty was pretty much love at first listen for me, /shrug.

PS: Kobayashi has become one of my absolute favorite male vocalists. Of course, I tend to prefer higher pitched male vox anyway, but his voice is so versatile.

  8. I think it's pretty clear that many music buffs tend to be more album-oriented. Just look, year end lists tend to consist only of albums! EPs/mini-albums squeak their way onto these lists occasionally, but it's not often that maxi-singles get any attention. "If the title track is included on an album, then why bother talking about the maxi-single release!" Well, this thread is to help us mend that ideology.

While the OR team is taking strides towards more recognition of individual tracks (see our monthly and year-end best track lists), this topic is to help recognize notable (maxi-)singles that might have been overlooked in all the hubbub over albums.

Discuss some of your favorite (maxi-)singles here!

    A few pointers:
    1) If the release is a single (i.e 1 track, no b-sides), it must not be included on any of the given band's albums/EPs/mini-albums (greatest hits collections are excluded). You can fudge this rule if the single recording is different from the version included on another release.

    2) If the release is a maxi-single (usually a single track, with 1-3 b-sides/SE/instrumentals), the entirety of the release must be of note for you. And preferably, the b-sides should not have shown up on any of the given band's albums/EPs/mini-albums.

    3) For now, let's keep this limited to Japanese music (but any scenes/genres are welcome!).

    4) Share your (maxi-)singles with a little blurb about why you chose it. If you can provide links (YouTube, etc.), do it!

So let's get this started! I'll share a few that I have in mind later.
