  1. I'm not sure how to explain it but I feel like VK has a problem with  choruses. So often I hear songs that sound amazing only to be ruined by a boring chorus that doesn't seem to organically connect with the rest of the song, sounds uncharacteristically happy like an explosion of kittens and rainbows in musical form or is just bland and lacks the kind of punch you would expect from a chorus. Then when it's time to go back to the verses, the transition is all awkward. To me, the verses and bridge are usually more memorable than the choruses and I only seem to have this experience with VK. When I listen to a new song and it's shaping up to be a good one, I always have this concern that they'll go for this type of chorus and ruin everything and more often than not I am right. A good example of this would be SCAPEGOAT - 幼女A~Hide and Seek~ . Their Nemurenai something song is the same. It's frustrating to have everything in a song work except the chorus.

  2. Haha, I actually think that wasn't too bad? At least they didn't say VK is a music genre (my biggest pet peeve) and stressed the fact there is a lot of variety inside the scene, although it would have been nice to emphasize that with some actual videos. I  was expecting something like DIV or lynch. to pop up, but I guess there wasn't enough time. But it seems they did some decent research and I am pleased with that. No blatant incorrect info.

I was actually expecting to see Obscure since that used to be the go-to video for scaring your family and friends, but that Insanity Injection video was a good substitute. As for the reactions, they were as expected, none of those people seemed to be the target audience for this kind of thing, save for that one guy who seemed sincerely impressed.

I agree! I actually thought they were on the upswing again with this latest mini (I liked "Tokyo, nettaiya ni tsuki" so much better than "Ikenai KISS" or "SECRET NIGHT"), though, as @doombox described, I was hoping it was just a brief 'experiment.'

Reminds me I need to give that mini another listen, I only went through it once I think and nothing really stuck. Especially since it doesn't seem  we'll be getting a final release.

But overall they have so many songs that don't seem to get old (it figures tho, because that includes almost the entirety of ZERO ONE).

They definitely left their mark on the scene for me. Can only think of two other poppy-VK bands I kind of like.

  4. They had their peak during ZERO ONE, then I started losing interest, but they were still interesting enough and delivered some solid songs among the less stellar ones.

It didn't seem they were doing too bad, but I can't possibly be surprised by any disbandment news anymore.

  5. I don't know what happened, so I'm going to assume there is some reason the mods have all  converged towards that ban and they weren't just being bullies. But even if Trombe was in the wrong, that does not in any way invalidate all the valuable contributions this person brought to the News section and the forum in general. I find it in poor taste to suddenly start acting as if his work wasn't such a big deal or even worse, that it was inconvenient this person was so thorough in news coverage.  I didn't see anyone complain about this before, so It feels disingenuous to start downplaying his/her work now that he/she won't post anymore.  I'm sure it's not the same for everyone here, but take a step back and it's easy to realize some of us were really appreciative of all the news posted, either minor or major, and in very due time. Just an opinion from someone who barely posts and has no  particular sympathies for anyone.

  6. I have a separate folder for Japanese artists and bands (also for Chinese & Korean music; the rest goes under my general Music folder). Inside, I have separate folders for every letter of the alphabet. Then it's the classic Artist -> Releases -> Tracks format. I name every release like this: [release date: year/month/day] [type: single/album/mini-album] Release Name. It would be great if I were as neat and organized in everything and not just with my music.

  7. Probably the first XAA-XAA release that I'm not too crazy about. I still need to give it a few more listens and see if it grows on me some more. My favorite releases still remain Kowai Kurai and Shinitai mini-albums.

PLASTICZOOMS are one of band that dragged me into general Post-Punk music btw

This is exactly how it went for me too, I owe my introduction and appreciation of Post-Punk music to them and Lillies and Remains. And I agree SECRET POSTCARD is one of their best works.

As for the main post, that's a very convincing and well-written introduction to the band. It would definitely make me check them out if I had no idea who they were.

Not sure about the order, but my personal top 10 would look something like this:

    1. Sleepwalker

    2. Wire Tensioning Method

    3. Witch

    4. KMKZ

    5. CRACK

    6. Scent

    7. Shooting Star

    8. MANIAC (Michael Sembello cover)

    9. B U G

    10. LOVE

  9. 4/10 bands from my previous list are no more and 1 hasn't released anything since >_<

    So:

    DEZERT

    Grieva

    THE GALLO

    DADAROMA

    LIPHLICH

    XAA-XAA

    R-Shitei

dummy-xD (wouldn't really call them VK but they're on vkdb so I'll go with that)

    Kuroyuri to Kage

    Plastic Tree

Only active bands, no particular order and no AvelCain since they're over.

And no MUNIMUNI since I'm anticipating their next release in 2025.
