ahh, that makes sense now, because i would have liked to see more variety of gift vouchers from different music sites like cdjapan for example. otherwise, i'm not sure what else would make good prizes.

I'll definitely take your comments into consideration for the future. What kind of prizes would have been better? One of the main problems (for me anyway) is barely any music sites offer internet gift vouchers anymore.

also, just another opinion of mine, but i personally didn't feel too excited about the prizes, so i didn't feel entirely enthusiastic about entering either. hope that helps for the future maybe?

i'd love to participate next time if there's another opportunity in the future~ ^^
i think it depends on people, but i feel that if participants want to make a full costume it would require at least two months to prepare because:
    1) it gives them time to think about who/what to cosplay.
    2) some may need to order materials online which takes time when you have to wait for them to arrive .
    3) some might make their own costumes from scratch, which takes a lot of time and effort, and even trial and errors.
but well, this is just my opinion from past cosplays i've done. it's different for everyone, and it also really depends on who/what people want to cosplay as. some cosplays might require more time than others to make. ^^

plastic_rainbow reacted to CAT5 in what's your method of finding new bands to listen to?
These days, I mostly rely on my friends/social network for good recommendations and a select few sites. Altho in the past, when I was more passionate about finding new music, I'd literally spend hours scouring sites like myspace (yes, i'm THAT old lol), m4247 (now dead) links on band websites, last.fm, and just ANYTHING with information about bands. p2p/pirating was a huge help too.

For you, I would recommend stopping by our sessions @dubtracks, as with the variety of stuff played there, you're almost guaranteed to hear something that piques your interest. I would also recommend joining the trade-offs here, as they're a good way to potentially find new music, expose yourself to new things, find out more about what you like/don't like, etc, and just interface with the users here!

browse similar artists of bands on last.fm listen to some samples on youtube and check out the related videos section. looking at other bands your favorite bands play with is not a bad idea either~ it just takes a lot of searching!

i'd like to see more discussion about lyrics too, especially now that i'm making my own translations. but i guess, not all songs that get translated interest people enough to discuss the content. or it could be that some people just assume that the translator's interpretation is correct since they don't know japanese themselves.

I think most of us, who have been listening to Japanese music for a while should understand some phrases.

I agree, with bands that focus more on screams, growls and other hellish noises lyrics are hardly relevant. But calmer bands such as Merry, or MUCC, or 12012,  for example, put a lot more emphasis on the lyrics in varying levels of depth. Unfortunately most of us do have to rely on the translator to get the gist of what the song is about, and even then it can be hard to understand/lose somewhat from the original meaning. But I think there's still room for interpretation.  I wish so many wouldn't just follow the herd.

imo i like the second link the best. it stays very close to the original japanese. the fourth one is just about as good too, but still slightly off on some parts. i don't really like the other two because they either took away some meaning, or left out a few lines/words. the third link had a lot of missing words for some reason? anyway, i would stick with the second link! but that's not to say that the fourth link was a bad translation either. ^^
