I used to be a big aquarifa fan, but this "switch" song does nothing for me. They just haven't been the same since the loss of their first vocalist. Their rhythm section used to be more interesting back in the day too... annnnnnnnnnnyways. I'm still gonna give this a try when it comes out.

None of the bands/artists from my shuffle posts are visual kei. 2 of them are non-Japanese (Bonobo and Radio Moscow). And of the 8 Japanese bands, only about half of them are on indie labels. 2 of those 4 playing some variation of rock, while the other 2 are firmly rooted in folk music and electronica respectively.

I think you missed the point of this thread.

Not as amazing as I was expecting (I think I liked their first collab from like 2007 better), but not bad of course. I'm also a bit disappointed that Shiina is only on the a-side. but at least soil&pimp will be able to do their thing instrumentally on the b-sides without having to leave room for vocals. Shiina is still sexy as ever, though.

Hello again, welcome back to MH! ; )

I dunno...I think I enjoyed their first release a lot more. A lot of metal fans have a problem with the vocalist due to his clean vocals being so "whiny". It's true, but I just see them as a progressive metal band with post-hardcore vocalist lol. I enjoy both genres, so I'm ok with it, haha. I've always liked Cinema Staff, but I kinda disagree here...their latest album was pretty sappy for me. I don't know what to say about them really...they're usually just hit and miss I think. I guess I prefer their rougher, most spastic side. Onmyo's last album definitely kicked ass...which surprised me cuz I haven't really enjoyed much from them since their 2007 album!

j/k lol...But nah, cornelius is cool if you like bright, quirky and playful electronic music. Tokyo Jihen...I guess it depends on how much you like Shiina Ringo. You're either gonna love her or hate her tbh. But if you can dig the vocals, I think you'll be able to dig TJ's eccentric amalgam of jazz, rock, and pop. It's too bad they've disbanded because they were one of the best mainstream bands in Japan if you ask me. If the spirit ever moves you, check out "point" by cornelius and the first 2 albums by TJ (yes, both of them!). I think if you just want to be more musically knowledgeable, then you should check out The cure, Bowie, Black Flag, Slayer, TGD, and even The White Stripes to an extent....but personally, I don't think BMTH, marina, and lana have made any kind of significant impact musically. I don't even get the hype around Lana to be honest lol...

It was, but that's fine. Feel free to mention any kind of band. I haven't listened to most of those you listed either, but I am definitely a fan of Radiohead! To me, they're one of those bands that are overrated, but with good reason! ; )
