  1. I was under the impression that Yasu was a woman. I remember that I asked them once too, but they gave me a really vague answer.

Anyway Yasu would always say that they were really unmotivated; I'd like to think that they just left the net for a while to focus on other things. Best of luck to them wherever they are!

  2. Do you have any recommendation ? (active/new bands)

    :)

Arukara - Rad indie rock band with awesome instrumentation. Their newest album is a staff favorite of 2013!

Tesla doesn't know how to cry - Really cool piano driven indie rock~ shout out to fitear for discovering them!

Backdrop Cinderella - Fun, crazy, and pirate-ish(???) rock, idk just listen to it!

88Kasyo Junrei - These guys are fucked. I think it was CAT5 that said if aliens crash landed on Earth and made a rock band this is what it would sound like.

Ziyoou-Vachi - Rockin noisy punk band led by a black/japanese transgender woman, how fucking awesome is that?

  3. So what exactly were the requirements for an album to make it on the list? Did you guy just name some personal faves, vote on them, and order them in the amount of votes they recieved? Is the list even ordered, or is it random? Just curious cause most of the albums had at least two staff members review them, but that one Nico album only has one review. If it's so liked why did only one staff member review it?

Anyway I'm really happy to see Tam Tam, Kinoko Teikoku, and amber gris on the list! Tam Tam especially Polarize was such a great listening experience, and was on my fave list from the start. I love the variety in the list and I'm looking forward to the rest of it~

  4. You should be able to see all the folders your music is in and drag your music onto a playlists whenever you want. I don't use custom skins, just the default but with an added musical spectrum. Maybe uninstall current skin and change to a default layout, then install the skin again.

okay I just dragged my entire music folder into one playlist. does this mean that now whenever I update my music folder with new music, foobar will automatically reflect that?

and omg can Jam v1.2 come any faster? the current layout is pretty, but damn is it a pain in the ass to navigate without any scroll bars.

  5. I need help! so I made the switch to the Jam skin and now I can't see my music library. This was also a problem when I was using the default skin except I somehow got my entire library onto one playlist (is this what everyone does?) and I just kept it that way. Then after I installed this skin my library playlist was empty?

  6. Not that many people will care, but the guitarist of the rather obscure Celestia le ciel was a girl. The twist was that she claimed to be a guy. A cross-dressing guy. So basically, she was a girl pretending to be a guy pretending to be a girl. She only whispered during interviews and let the vocalist "translate", so she wouldn't give away her gender by her voice.

I know that because I translated for the band at their Germany concert several years ago. It obviously was supposed to be a secret (and quite succesfully so - there was a homosexual guy at the concert that was badly stanning for "him" - which is pretty hilarious, if you think about it XD). But since the band is long disbanded and the members retired from music, there isn't really much harm in revealing it now. Plus, I think they even had less fans in Japan than in Europe. XD

    Nice people though.

This was very interesting to read! I can see why she'd keep a secret like that though. I've seen a lot of misogyny from overseas vk fans concerning female vk bands (idk if Japanese fans are the same cause I can't read Japanese). Whenever a woman would dress in visual style it was never just that. There have always been comments like "Why does that girl want to dress up as a boy dressed up as a girl?" As if to say that only men can dress in visual style, and that visual style is always some form of cross dressing which we know isn't always the case.

  7. holy shit that's emiru!!!

But this isn't very impressive imo. Pretty basic j-rock sound that you can hear from SPYAIR, RADWIMPS, etc & I'm not here for that. I may try them out if they ever release an album tho~

  8. Today I watched The Conjuring for like the fifth time. It's one of those movies that I can watch repeatedly without ever getting bored <3

I also watched Repulsion for the first time because I was in the mood for some psychological horror. Really good scare scenes in this one. I don't scare easily, and this movie made me jump twice! Holy fuck those dream sequences! Plot and themes were executed really well too, poor Carol :(  Roman Polanski can die in a fire, but I really enjoyed this crazy ass movie.

  9. Have you received 5 albums already? I only count 4 in this thread, so I'm posting my recommendation anyway. U BETTER LISTEN TO IT CUZ I DIDNT UPLOAD THIS 4 NOTHIN

I'm sending you j-rock-jazz-pop gods Tokyo Jihen's sophomore album Adult. I love the way this band tackles rock and pop tunes with a fresh sounding jazzier edge. Their first album and the albums after Adult all play with a certain smoky lounge atmosphere, but it's this album that truly embraces it. It's the perfect place to start if you haven't listened to them yet; there is a lot to love here.

  10. Season 3 is everything omg the cast <3 stanning for just about all of the HBIC characters (love to hate Kathy Bates' character)

The cinematography is so good to. Taissa's scene in the hospital hallway was beautifully shot. There are also times when the camera's movements can me feel a bit dizzy and uncomfortable, but it works so good for this show.

Season 3 is already leagues ahead of the first two season in terms of story, cast, and style imo. Don't even get me started on the convoluted zombies + aliens story in season 2.

  11. Recently been obsessing over singer-songwriter Kayoko Yoshizawa's indie debut. Found about her from people in my music circle aka. stalking Last.fm profiles.

Really cute quirky pop is the best way I could describe her music. Kayoko is really good at using playful catchy melodies to highlight her dainty vocals. Some songs are borderline sappy while others are more melancholic. The instrumentation is on point; Kayoko strums away at her acoutsic guitar and invited musicians to play various fun instruments. There are pedal steel guitar melodies in らりるれりん, organ flourishes in 化粧落とし, and a sweet melodica tune in ぶらんこ乗り.

As for influences I couldn't really say what's inspired her, but I do hear some Kabukichou-era Shiina Ringo in Kayoko's 未成年の主張. Certainly fans of Shiina Ringo will like this, but I implore you give this a try if your feeling up for some fun upbeat music that will brighten up your day.

  12. Both my parents listen to salsa, merengue, bachata, 80's, and disco.

omg are you me? My parents also listen(ed) to 80's rock, pop, R&B, some post-punk, and prog rock. My mother ignited my love for pop music when she would jam to Selena, Thalia, Paulia Rubio. etc. My mom, grandmother, and I loved dancing and listening to salsa and Latin jazz music. My dad kind of just listened to whatever my mom played since she always hogged the radio and car stereo. But I do have very fond memories with my father on long drives and him playing The Doors' collection CD that he had.

Some of my faves from back then ~<3
