IPS4 will have a "Mention"-feature, and we will upgrade to IPS4 once it has a stable, full release. At the moment there is only a release candidate availible, and we don't want to break the forum, so please be patient until the full version is released.

Seriously regret coming into this thread, but anyway, gotta completely disagree with Jon Jonz:

Pretty bad way to start a post that just may end up outdoing any ignorance or bullsh!t that came before it in the thread.

Is that a statistic? Maybe I should listen to something else so I can open my mind, see the real world, be one with the universe....

Pretty darn narrow-minded and downright hateful way to feel about someone with a different opinion than you.

I seriously hope that this is about VK influenced bands outside of Japan only, and that you aren`t implying Yohio and co. help support actual Japanese bands in any way... Or maybe I am wrong and X Japan or Vamps would never play NYC without Yohio...
Pretty sure people will still want to see Visual bands they like even without forcing themselves to try and enjoy foreign imitations that don`t bring anything to the table.

Visual Kei is far from simply Glam. Glam, Hair Metal and so forth are some of the ancestors of the music, for sure, but they in no way define it, and any attempt to accuse modern VK of being a Glam or Hair Metal rip-off would be buried under the countless iterations of Visual bands which have put their own perspective and ideas into the a mix of ideas that come from all over the world.

Also no idea why tranny is said so much around here, and any sexuality at all is not a factor for me personally in terms of my enjoyment of VK.

Pretty sure you have more scrobbles of VK than most people here combined. But you`re exempt from any kind of infatuation with Japanese culture / products?

I don`t see `culture` being spread, I hold culture to a somewhat higher esteem than thinking a little boy who paid to have make-up put on and producers make his band sound like somewhat old Gazette is spreading `culture`. Japanese culture has been spread for a very long time, bringing the world a wealth of new ideas, perspectives, and technologies. This has nothing to do with that, in my opinion.

The reason why so many often fail (and fail hard) at creating many `Japanese things`, is they lack the cultural background, understanding of how things came about, and why, as well as the actual nuances of PERSPECTIVE that Japan can add.

No, you don`t have to be of pure Yamato blood and raised in Honshu to get it, but simply looking and or listening to something Japanese and then copying it (usually poorly) WITHOUT ADDING ANY OF YOUR OWN PERSPECTIVE WHAT-SO-EVER usually ends up creating something that is not a cultural import, not a new take on foreign ideas, and not anything interesting to most `educated` people at all. It ends up being DERIVATIVE (junk).

All ideas come from somewhere, The Waltz to The Schmaltz, Ragtime, Jazz, Blues, Rock, Metal, Hair Metal, Visual Kei.
Yet somehow, as usual, the Japanese thing is especially a rip-off, and Japanese people are up to their thieving ways again, right?
Let`s just ignore the fact that same Blues riffs are used in countless songs, guys like Jimmy Page and Ritchie Blackmore copied those riffs as well as other forms of music extensively, then that cycle repeated over and over again, until today where we can google current lawsuits or Youtube compilations of rip-offs from all around the world.

But VK is to be shamed specifically!

Something about Japan has always led foreigners to proclaim some sort of ill conceived notion that they are some special unique counterfeiters who make nothing of their own... Until the reality that Japan is one of the biggest cultural exporters and innovators of all time sets in (if it ever does, as in, if people ever actually learn more about the book than just its cover).

    So you`re saying:

Hey, not much people support the Japanese bands in the first place, but let`s change any focus we had onto supporting these Western bands for some reason... Surely it is more important to support them than, you know, actually creative bands, or actual current or past ambassadors for Visual Kei and Japanese Rock, like Dir en grey, Larc, VAMPS, Girugamesh, X Japan, etc...

    ????

1:Okay, so why don`t we talk about those in other threads, and support them if we actually like them, for example, bands like Lilith, as opposed to you telling us we should care about this Yohio band that many seem to dislike and only follow out of morbid curiosity?

    2: Disagree, and disagree.

Overall I would have expected a much different, richer opinion from someone who listens to so much Visual Kei music.

In regards to things expressed not solely inside of the post I quoted:

At this point, it seems like some terms are just becoming irrelevant due to over-use, like: Rip-off, or trying to insult a VK band by calling them Indie...

Also just lol at `better than indie-fag` bands, not even sure why the select use of derogatory terms is allowed, but whatever, moving on:

Since when are the Indie VK bands seen as lower quality or, more importantly, the term Major seen as any indication of quality?
I can name tons of Indie bands that play circles around the Major bands, and if popularity is your rating point, I`m guessing you think Pop Idols are the cream of the crop. Hey, in reality that`s what this Disreign thing kind of is, I see it as less Rock and more Pop considering someone did their looks for them based on a pre-existing style, someone made the video based on pre-existing videos, someone made the album art for them based on pre-existing album art, someone produced the track to sound just like at least one pre-existing track... Where is the creative input and process from the band here?

Also to the question of why would we listen to Japanese singing in English: Because again, they put their own perspective on it, and we get a fresh product (not all the time, but you know). No matter what people say VK and other forms of Japanese music are very unique and can`t be substituted. Contrast an Indie band playing a common style with some English lyrics to a recent Miyavi song co-written by other people. You see the difference perspective makes in creating a somewhat unique product compared to what many are finding disappointment with in Miyavi`s latest.

Anyway, just my thoughts, it goes off topic, it goes back on topic, then it goes somewhere else, but whatever, think what you will, peace.

EDIT: If you like this band or whatever else, cool. I personally don`t but am not judging anyone, just disagreeing with the blanket statements, prejudices, and weird spin that seems to be put on some things. No I don`t think this band is original or important for VK at all, but that`s just me and those things don`t even need to matter to everyone anyway.

No because I'm not trashing the anime I'm trashing the shitty company that decided it was a good idea to make digimon into a Americanized kiddy show.... like I know the show is technically aimed at kids but the original Japanese version deals with a lot of mature themes and emotions that are anything but "4kids". They pretty much butchered the show to the point that none of the main points and themes are intact whatsoever in the dub. I honestly can't believe the original creators allowed them to air this here. Regardless I still like the dub because of childhood memories and such, but it's a no brainer which is the superior version.

Plus i really don't like that trash talk thread because all it does is invite people to come in and trash shows without any backing opinions other than "Hurr Derr this show is shit because I say so" and I don't belive that is very productive and isn't the kind of discussion I would like to promote here in this sub-forum. Honestly I'm trying to let that thread die and fade into oblivion so... Shhh XD

I've always loved them because of Jin's harsh and raw vocals. I can't really suggest something completely set in stone because I have no favourites and I usually prefer the least favoured materials in general (example = my most liked tracks from them is the ballads). I'd say check out their PV 'muddy cult.' (see spoiler~) It's where I started, iirc. Not that screamo but also not that pretty (in every sense x'D). Oh yeah, I also favour 'VANITAS' over their first album, 'GRAVE OF THE SACRIFICE' so there's another thing why my suggestions should go unnoticed. ='D

I'm going to quote everything I watched and agreed with and maybe add a bit of my own.

I agree with your assessment on Garo. It was a good ride, but the kind that took a little too long to get started and also had that weird curveball with his armor and his mother at the end that they didn't explain. I also like Diamond no Ace and I'm hyped for the new season because I don't know what's going to happen. I thought it would be a while until the next season but it's coming out this week! Much excite.

Also do you know how many episodes this second season will cover?

    Wait wait wait.

However, I feel the same about this season. It felt incomplete with many plot points they didn't resolve and one too many ambiguous endings. Plus, I feel like it changed from a horror story about survival to some grimdark shounen romp featuring Kaneki. 5/10 come back refreshed next season or don't come back at all.

I agree with your assessment on Death Parade. Perhaps one of the more interesting new anime I picked up this season. I didn't find a lot I enjoyed (even though it seems like quite the opposite), so this was very welcome.

Now it's time for all the other stuff I watched:

Shinmai Maou no Testament: Battle harem with more censoring than Terraformars? Count me out. Y'all already know I don't like harems but I can bear it if it's a good story. And to be fair, the story for this was kinda nice...when they get to it. However, I can't tell what the fuck is going on half the time because it's LIGHTBEAMS EVERYWHERE. And if that wasn't bad enough, there's this very suspect wincest theme underneath it all of "oh yes onii-chan we're not related but you're my older brother now massage my tits to relieve this curse that bonds us eternally". If you need unconventional fap material, wait for the uncensoreds.

Absolute Duo: By far the better of the two battle harems this season but it's still not that good. Kokonoe Tor is a bitch who apologizes for everything that isn't his fault, amasses a harem and then chooses wifey, and won't kill the man that tried to both kill him and wifey because LOL POWER. This would have been so much better if they replaced him with Arata from Trinity Seven. Removing splinters from two year olds is more entertaining than following this to the end.

Ansatsu Kyoushitsu: A story about an alien who can move at Mach 20 who teaches a class of rejected kids assassination techniques to kill him before he destroys the planet in one year? Much more interesting story premise than a lot of other stuff I saw this season. The show is a little goofy and the animation a bit data, but everything is crisp and clean and the story does a good job making you want more each week. I can dig it.

Sengoku Musou: Anime adaptation of the war between the Tokugawa and Toyotomi clans after the fall of Toyotomi Hideyoshi. No surprises here if you're a nerd about Japanese history but it was a good adaptation from beginning to end. My only complaint is that the ending was just "...and that ended the Warring Era". No shit it did now what happened to the survivors? -_______-

    Durarara!!x2 Shou

Another show ended... for now. Durarara is a strange one, but in a entertaining way. It feels like each scenario presented in each ep are pieces to a big upcoming puzzle. It was a bit of a tough watch in the beginning due to the large cast of characters and it's been years since I saw the first show. The ending though, that was quite a cliffhanger there. Next season will air around July.

    Another anime finished today...

    Parasyte

Wow, I don't know where to begin since my thoughts are a jumbled mess right now. Truly a show that broke the shonen barriers. I've read the manga for Parasyte almost 10 years ago. When the news broke out that it was gonna be adapted into an anime, I couldn't believe it. I was worried at first the episode count was going to be 24 total because the manga had over 60 chapters. After going 4 eps in, all my doubts have been cleared. This show is one faithful adaptation to its source. The only majors changes were the updated settings and character designs, other than that, everything else remains the same. The writing is definitely the series' strong suit. If anyone has read Orson Scott Card books such as Ender's Game, you can tell the author for Parasyte took a page from Card's writing style, and that is human condition. Although every ep has been stellar throughout, the episode that stood out to me the most was ep18. I can't really explain it in words other than it hit me emotionally unexpectedly. Since the show has ended, there are still questions left unanswered such the parasites' origins, but I think it's best to leave it as a mystery rather than finding out that it's something lame. Plus, this is Izumi's journey co-existing with migi to experience life. This is an anime that shouldn't be missed. I really wish more shows go for the unconventional anime standards by taking more risks like this. While it's a start, it leaves me somewhat optimistic for what's about to come in the future.

    10/10

Honestly, I can't remember when was the last time I have a perfect rating to an anime. It may have been Ano Natsu de Matteru.

Honestly I'm just all over this show, I know that there's other people who don't like it for whatever reasons , but I find it hard to give it anything less than a 9/10 because I truly enjoyed every single second of it. The only thing stopping it from the perfect score is the sometimes out of place slap stick comedy moments but even those didn't really bother that much in fact more than a few times I liked the placement of them, they did a good job of relieving some of the intense drama that was happening to the characters.

So far type-0 HD is an average port at best. I'll give you the run down.

    PROS

The graphics. the game itself looks amazing and they did a pretty alright job with the graphics part of the remaster. You couldn't get this game to look this good even if you were to emulate the psp version on PC and upscale to 1440p with AA.  here's a video comparison below in the spoiler. 60 FPS. Yes this matters and it does make a difference, this game plays so much better at a higher frame rate, it's just unimaginably smooth There is nothing in this port that technically makes it worse than the original, and by that I mean that it runs about the same (if not better) and there's no bugs that I can tell that were introduced in the porting process. CONS

There is nothing in this port that technically makes it better than the original, and by that I mean that gameplay/mechanic wise they did not try to improve anything, everything is pretty much the same even though their could of been a few things they could of improved upon (example would be the god awful camera). The translation and dub. This is more of a personal con to me... The translation isn't the worse I've seen but overall the Fan Translation is miles above this official one and really shows that the fans that weren't even getting paid to do it, took more TLC translating the game then the actual people who were getting paid to do it. also the dub is just plain lazy and you can really tell that they didn't spend a lot of money on it. Thank god that Square has finally started to do dual audio in there games now. My biggest gripe with the game is that they took out the multiplayer aspects. Yes type-0 psp had multiplayer and they totally axed it from this version all together. Honestly I understand why they did this but that still doesn't make it any better when I start to wonder what could of been. With all this said, it's still worth the buy considering that the core game is intact and in some aspects the experience is a bit better if you care about graphics and frame rate. This version of the game is still just as fun as the psp and I welcome it to my collection.
