The "[Coll:set]" option is obvious, but I'll actually go with RENTRER EN SOI's "MEGIDDO".

I still remember coming home, loading the forum and seeing the news of their disbandment (in 2008, I believe?). What was most striking for me, however, is how there was a general consensus here (which you know it's difficult to come by) about how terrible their breakup was and most importantly how everyone acknowledged they were going out at their peak. It was a very bittersweet period here.

    91 Days
Prohibition era mafioso revenge story, really dark and bloody and goes the extra mile in character development. perhaps the best thing about the show is it's a short series (12 episodes) and it has a definitive ending.

    Ajin
Supernatural series about demi-humans. Has a lot of morality conflictions and goes into how demi-humans are treated in society. Dark and gory as fuck. Also It's CG animation so if you want something that looks a little different from the norm, that's a plus.

    Claymore
Supernatural Fantasy with flesh eating demons called youma. Badass female protag with vengeance on the mind and a pension for bloddshed, very heavily inspired by Berserk (imo).

    Death Note
It's hard to believe there are people who haven't heard of this show, but for the sake of new comers. Pretty much one of the most popular anime over here in the states. About a high schooler who finds a notebook called the death note, he soon finds out that any person who's name he writes down in this book will die mysteriously. With this power the protag decides to do good in the world and meat out "justice" as he see's fit, none the less there are other's with this power and a lot of mysterious surrounding the whole thing. Also there are demons, yes. Hands down one of the best psychological thriller series ever created, a must watch.

    Gantz
Sci-fi series with a a lot of super natural elements. without spoiling too much, the main characters die but then are brought back to play in a "game" of sorts, along with other "dead" people. together they are forced to fight aliens and other sci-fi entities tot he death, if they are not victorious then they die for real. Deals heavily in psychological themes such as societal acceptance and what it truly means to want to die.

    Higurashi no Naku Koro ni
Super natural horror mystery where... quite honestly shit just goes wrong over and over and over again for the main characters. Desperation and psychotic breakdowns, violence to the extreme, and psychological themes a plenty.

    Mousou Dairinin (Paranoia Agent)
Possibly the weirdest series on this list. Goes into a lot of bizarre themes of paranoia and the the story can be a bit on the complicated side to follow if you're not paying extra close attention. Not gonna say anything about the actual plot because I feel it would lessen  the experience when you watch it.

    Soukyuu no Fafner: Dead Aggressor
Post apocalyptic mecha show with some serious shit going down. Hidden gem of the mecha genre in my opinion, very similar to Evangelion except you'll actually care when these characters die, and die they will, tons of them in fact, in horrifying and sick ways. Which is the problem, this show has A+ character development, you get so attached to characters but so many die that it hurts inside You want a dark mecha series with lots of gore and terrific plot? here you go.

By the way, Angel's Egg is an overlooked masterpiece. Slow-burning, surrealistic and poetic anime with barely any dialogue at all. It's not as much about plot, characters and all that, but rather an atmospheric trip, or just an experience, that offers something different. Probably the most unique anime I've ever seen. It's not even 80 minutes long, but 85% of everyone who  watch this will be bored to death and the 80 minutes will feel more like 578 minutes. But this is perfect IMO. Highly recommended for people with some patience who appreciate atmosphere, visual style and the artsy side of things.

I remember coming across blog postings that would mention a web forum (Tainted World), that shared their love for Japanese Rock, many years ago.
I said to myself, “That forum must be full of losers”, and thought nothing more of it.
    Sorry Ito haha.

I find it incredible that I would meet the creator of that very website (as I soon found out) here in Chicagoland years later, at an Anime Convention panel of all places, introducing his newly transitioned website “Monochrome Heaven”, and how great it would be if I joined.
It’s funny how fate works sometimes.

Honestly, joining Monochrome Heaven was one of the happiest decisions I believe I’ve ever made in my life.
I want to thank all of you.
I have joined many forums, and even helped moderate a couple too, but none of them were like this.
I didn’t expect to still be here, 4 years later, logging in with as much enjoyment as I did the first day.
I didn’t expect to meet incredible individuals, who love Visual Kei just as much as I do, and yet, live up to thousands of miles away from each other. Some of you make me happier after talking to, than many of my IRL friends haha.
MH helped me rediscover many music that I had heard growing up, being able to finally put some artists’ names and faces to songs that I never thought I’d hear again.
You’ve become part of my daily routine every morning, next to taking that drive to work, and drinking that much needed cup of coffee.

I owe this forum a great deal for being there, when I needed it the most, you have no idea. This place is my home away from home.
Whatever I can do to keep MH here another 10 years, is the least I can do, in order to repay this great community.

    Happy 10th Birthday, Monochrome.

Original Saku reacted to peffy in What video games are you currently playing?
I just got my copy of Ryu ga gotoku 6 (aka Yakuza 6)yesterday and played for about 2 hours before I reeeeally had to go to sleep. I also had a migraine while playing.

After about 45 minutes of non-stop intro cutscenes (seriously...) I finally got to walk around some of Kamurochou.

Holy hell, the changes & improvements in the graphics and menus are immediately stunning. Especially after being stuck with the same engine and similar-looking menus for the SIX previous games in the series I've played. (3, 4, 5, Ishin, 0, Kiwami).
    - They FINALLY added auto-saving. It's quick and seamless. No more running to phone booths (which, by the way, no longer exist), no more watching that save progress bar fill up TWICE every time you save.
    - There is literally zero load time going into battles. When you run into random thugs, the screen gets tinted blue for a half-second (to tell you you're entering a battle), and the punches start flying immediately. There is also zero load time when walking into restaurants and stores, it is all completely seamless.
    - They have re-arranged some places on the map, which is a shock since 3, 4, and 5 basically had the exact same Kamurochou map.
    - The main menu/pause menu is literally a Sony Xperia phone (looks exactly like my phone). If you get a text message (used for tutorial tips so far), you can read it and continue walking around at the same time. (Kiryu will look at his phone while walking)
    - You can now purchase drinks from pretty much every vending machine (these drinks will give temporary stat boosts). Kiryu will walk around holding the can, and if you hold down Circle he will drink it. You can also partially drink it and continue walking around with it because why not.
    - Apparently everything is voiced now. No more reading text boxes, or weird transitions between text-only and voiced dialogue.

AMAZING THINGS THAT HAPPENED IN MY 1 HOUR OF FOOLING AROUND IN KAMUROCHOU
    - Some idiot wanted to fight me. I lured him INTO a nearby convenience store and proceeded to beat his ass INSIDE THE CONVENIENCE STORE. I knocked over some shelves (oops) and bashed his face into the checkout counter. Then I bought cup noodles from the poor employee who'll have to clean up that mess.
    - Kiryu will BREAK SHIT that's sitting on the streets, just by walking/running into them. Including bicycles, motorbikes, signs, trash cans... pretty amazing for a series that never let you touch anything if you weren't in combat. I spent a few minutes totally wrecking a side street just for the hell of it.
    -  I walked into a cafe and discovered that Kiryu will also BREAK SHIT indoors, including tables and chairs. I destroyed this cafe and terrified the customers. Oops. I passed by this cafe a bit later only to find it "closed for repairs". Lol. I came back later to find it open for business as usual. Then I wrecked it again. Lol.
    - It seems like it's more common for thugs to attack you with weapons. It also seems easier to make them drop the weapons. Some fool came at me with a sledgehammer. I got him to drop it, then I picked it up and used it to destroy his buddies.

    BAD THINGS I NOTICED
    - Strangely, the default walking speed is just walking. Hold down X to dash, but stamina is limited. There's no default "jogging" speed.
    - I walked into one cabaret club, and was impressed that they gave me FIVE girls to choose from. However they weren't all that attractive.. in fact I would call a couple of them straight-up ugly. But that was just a still image, maybe they look better in motion?
    - I couldn't find the UFO catcher mini-game in the Sega arcades ?!?!?! Maybe it's somewhere else.
    - I haven't been able to knock over pedestrians yet. It's VERY IMPORTANT TO ME to knock over pedestrians. I hope it's still in the game.
    - Once again, Sega has blocked me from taking screenshots/videos. Sega pls.
    - This is "Kiryu's final chapter", but I really hope they keep making these games with another protagonist. Or more samurai-era games. I need this new engine to be used in more games. NEED.

    ~

tl;dr I want to take vacation from work just to play more of this. English-only Yakuza fans will likely be in for a treat when this comes out in English next year.

    Aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh you're here!!!!!
Gosh, reading your post was like traveling back in time lol I couldn't remember a lot of the things you mentioned!! We've had a lot of chats, huh XD And that's right, I remember I used to lurk around Tonberry for a long time and when I had decided to start participating for real, it was over haha. Aaand then TW came up on invisionfree, right? (everyone used invisionfree those days lol)
I've been here for a long time and it's weird how things/people changed but it's still a nice place to be. Back then, even though I registered to the forum, it took me a long time to stop lurking and start participating for real, and it's basically the same as it's happening now since I came back and still feel kind of lost lol. So many people left and so many new people came! Some of those you mentioned, for example. Man. It's been too long... and there was always a lot of drama hahahahaha it makes me wonder where everyone is! These days I don't keep in touch with most people from then and it's really a shame. Well, mostly. XD

But I'm really glad I could enjoy the forum then and still can now. So thank you for all! And most of all, thank you for still being here - I know very well how hard it is to keep a forum, especially nowadays, and I can't imagine how harder it is for such a large, English-language forum, with people from literally all places on Earth. So seriously, CONGRATULATIONS. It's been awesome!

Btw, doe, do you know about Nekkou? I was wondering about her the other day and no one I asked seemed to remember who she was, but I'm sure you do. XD
