"Back to basics". That definition was spot on. This is exactly what I'd expect the love-child of NIL and SR to be. Usually their music is nothing what they say it's gonna be, but for the first time ever, they gave us what they promised. I do agree with people that they've forgotten how to make memorable melodies. The whole album was very well done and sounds like they really put some effort in there, but "The Hook" is missing. That said, I do like this album. Much better than Division. I honestly don't remember a single song from that and have found zero reasons to go back at it, despite listening to it several times. Can't say it's better than Toxic because this is so different. Toxic had amazing single-songs, but everything around them pretty much sucked. This one lacks any of those supersongs like Pledge and Vortex, but there's not a single song here that I would call shit, except for maybe Fadeless. I can't pick any favorites, it's all quite decent. Redo is something they haven't done since SR and I've really missed that since I really like those chilly rock-songs. I'm sure that was composed by Kai. Though I hated how Loss almost had an awesome solo, but then it just ended! Fuck you guys. And I have to agree with most people here; Coda is the best tune of the album. It sounded like some intro of a folk metal song, with gaze-style. They could've done some great things with that, but then again, atleast they didn't screw it up. Someone said that they'd like Gazette more with a different vocalist. I think that sums up pretty well the case of Gazette. Imagine if this album was made by some american newcomer-band with a great vocalist as their first album. I'm pretty sure they'd be fucking praised. But this is the Gazette, this is the VK-scene, they've been around for a decade and released way too many songs in their career that it all just blends together to some weird deformity where only a few gems stand out. But I guess it's still quite a beautiful deformity. (SEE WHAT I DID THAR) I'd give this a solid 3/5

gotta say you are so right with that one. I didn't care for his kabuki-sound back then, but it has really grown on me since. I got really into it right when he left psc. but I think most people back then hoped for melodic rock without the rappers. not some simple talent-wasting guitar-voice-drums jamming that doesn't work as a full album. and from what I remember, no one ever said that kabuki rock was unoriginal and overdone. people just thought it was gay. maybe some people will hope for more what's my name in a few years. maybe he's just way ahead of his time. though he did make samurai sessions in between what's my name and MIYAVI and most seem to agree that it was awesome.

it's alright. not bad at all. better than anything on what's my name, which was mostly shit. though apart from samurai sessions, he's been quite repetive lately. I don't understand people talking about his creativity. day 1 and ahead of the light were pretty much the same. even the new song follows the same formula. funky guitar riff repeating over and over, unmelodic verse coming along and building up to a catchy chorus. samurai sessions and that kabuki-stuff are the best thing he has done. this minimalistic music got boring two years ago. this new sound is what what's my name should have been, but now it's time to move on. more samurai sessions please. edit: now that I think of it, the chorus of horizon sounds like it could be from a flo rida song or the likes. which I approve. I see what he's doing there.

Money can't buy creativity. I'm pretty sure this is just what they want to do. They want to do simple straightforward rock and that's it. Now and then add some violins here and try some electronics there. That said, they really need to do a fast heavy song with orchestra.

I think it's more like "PSC were being a dick and wanted us to finish it fast, but we'll make up for it this time". Previews are good enough to make me wanna hear the rest of it. Too bad the longer preview of Ibitsu cuts off just when it sounded like something cool was to happen. But it does sound like improved Toxic with hints of DIM. And improved by a lot, in my opinion. Most of Toxic was really dull, but this sounds like they actually paid some attention to the composing. Atleast so far. And people still bitch about them for not having a fresh sound? Oh please, like any of you were actually expecting that to happen. This is getting older than Gazette's sound, and that takes a lot.

I don't understand why some people put extra-terrestrials in the same paranormal-category as ghosts and such. Life on earth isn't paranormal, so it's not paranormal on other planets either. It's just normal. But yeah, I'm sure there is life out there. A lot of life. I don't know about ghosts. I haven't experienced anything like that, so I can't claim they are or are not real. Though, I don't see why they would be real, atleast in the classical sense. They could be some kind of a glitch in time or something, but I don't think there's an actual person there anymore. But what do I know? Telepathy and phychics are really interesting stuff, and I think it has been proven that atleast in theory, it's possible.

Well they weren't always bland I mean, Zansatsu Fiction for instance (w/e it is) - Spongebob Squarepants' part anyone? Ah yes, Nanairo no Reienka is actually my favorite release of theirs, and the hawaii-part is awesome. But that's pretty much the only original release they've done.

I thought The Abyss was actually quite nice. Better than I expected. Though needless to say I wasn't expecting anything since Brainstorm sucked balls. But The Abyss ain't bad. Generic as fuck, but seriously, who the hell was expecting anything else from these guys? Unique and different is not in their repertuar.

I haven't seen any official announcent about this yet, so it could be just a troll. Though, I wouldn't be surprised at all if they'd actually do this.

Meh. I don't mind the vocals at all, but the music was kinda lacking. Cell wasn't doing practically anything there. I was hoping for something like School Food Punishment. Well, it's the first song, maybe they'll get better. Not that it was terrible, just bland.

It's not really that bad. Though, not that it's amazing either. The first song was like a b-side of Deluhi, Doll was like some generic amurican alternative metal, the third song seemed to be more "original" in style. Which will probably end up being something like the first two. I guess I wasn't even expecting much since I'm not even disappointed.

I don't know about other countries, but when Gazette came to Finland, their gig sold out literally in 7 minutes. Maybe they weren't so lucky in other places? But I've heard too that they don't really like to come overseas. I think Ruki said that the reason they won't come to play in America, is because they simply don't want to.

I guess even PSC are realising that releasing five singles with terrible b-sides is not a good way to promote an album. Seeing how Toxic sold like 10 000 copies less than DIM during the first week. Toxic ended up quite good, but the setting for it was just sad. I really hope this happens, and I really hope they take their time.

Oh, come on. Another one? Well, Siren probably was their best release so far (or very close) so I'm looking forward to it. Though their previous albums before that were kinda lame. I wonder what direction they'll take this time.

Kingston Wall - II (psychedelic/progressive rock with a hint of traditional Indian music) This is probably the best rock album ever made in Finland. Extremely talented trio. Edit: Oh wait, no more bands? Well, I'll just leave this here if someone wants to check it out.

To put it more nicely than the other guy; playing slow songs is never a waste of talent. If you can't make an interesting slow song, it just means you're not talented. But you're probably just one of those "fast music, only music" -people, so each to their own. Anyway, I'm definitely checking this out. Hope there's not too much of Juri. He kinda forgot how to sing well.

Infuse Into "Hey dubstep is kinda famous now, let's do that". Well, yeah it's dubstep allright. Personally I think dubstep is kinda ghey, but it's just an intro, so I can live with that. Don't see a reason to rate this one. Around 3/10? Venomous Spider's Web Ok, now we're talking. I really like the intro. Totally get's you on the mood. Riffing is really nice. And I like the song progression, it wasn't that predictable. Chorus wasn't anything special, but I guess it works. I don't think this is the best choice for the first song, mainly cause the ending is too long. Nice song, nothing wow, but nice. And definitely in the wrong place. 7/10 Sludgy Cult I guess this is what Ruki meant we he was talking about "going back to our roots". This is totally disorder, with a hint of their modern style. It's nice to hear punkish stuff from them after some time. It's very catchy. Honestly I didn't care for the sample, but I actually think it might be better than the previous song. But just like VSW, it's nothing special. Just nice to listen to, but not something to repeat again and again. 7/10 Red Still the same awesome Red. I've repeated this song to near boredom, but it's still awesome. Great riffing, great chorus, great solo, overall very well done. 8/10 The Suicide Circus Probably the best new song. Great choice for the PV. I'm surprised how many different parts they used in one song, since they tend to make them quite repetive. This is not. It's really well done, not predictable at all. And the part with talking and singing at the same time sounds reeeaally good. Didn't care for the chorus at first, but it has grown on me. Ok, not just probably, it's the best new song. 10/10 Shiver Yeah, it's still the same. At one point I really liked this, but after a while, the "shine" has kinda gone. But it's good. 7/10 My Devil On The Bed I didn't like the sample at all, but it actually turned out to be quite nice. The singing in the beginning is kinda awkward, but it got better. I would've dropped the female vocals, it was really out of place. But other than that, it was a really enjoyable song. Drumming is simple, but definitely does the trick. The song kinda has a Kiyoharu-feeling going there, like SADS, which was mentioned. 7/10 Untitled This one is so easy to listen to. Every melody is very clear, great mood, very well put together. I was surprised it didn't have a solo, but I'm not sure if it even needed that. But it's not the most memorable thing they've done. Nice song to chill to and relax, but not a masterpiece. The ending was kinda weird, but it doesn't bother me. 7-8?/10 Pledge Still the best ballad they've ever done. Pianos are great and it has their best solo so far. 10/10 Ruthless Deed I was really waiting to hear this one, and it didn't disappoint. Mood is awesomely twisted. Song progression was nice and I wasn't definitely expecting such a melodic chorus. But it works really well. Needs many more listenings. 9/10 Psychopath Ok, you can't win everytime. Two fucking chords for most of the song? Seriously? Guys, that was weak. Totally pointless. Sure it sounds ok and it's probably a really nice live song, but it doesn't work on CD at all. The only skipper of the album along with the SE's. 4/10 Vortex I actually didn't like this song when it was released, (probably due to my hate for the b-side) but just before the album, I decided to give it another chance, and I found myself liking it. It has actually become one of my favorites. It flows really nicely, especially the chorus. The solo sounds maybe a bit too much like pointless wanking, but it doesn't matter, it doesn't sound like it needed one in the first place. 8/10 Tomorrow Never Dies Well, hello Nausea & Shudder. I wasn't expecting much from this one, but I found myself liking it quite a lot. This is really oldshool. Heavy mainriff, heavy verses, but a really upbeat punkish chorus. It was a really nice surprise. I was wondering why would this be the last song, but now I totally see why. I like the message too, atleast from what I could understand from Ruki's engrish. Gotta find the lyrics. Anyway, great ending. 8/10 Omega This kinda kills the mood. Not the best idea ever. But it's ok, I can stop listening after TND. 3/10? Overall, it's quite a decent release. Surprisingly good actually. Considering how fucking bad their b-sides were. But what can ya do when the bullshitcompany is telling you to have two b-sides on each single. Everyone did a nice job, except for Reita, but that's not a surprise. He seems kinda hopeless. I don't understand the SR comparisong though. I think it's more like Disorder and NIL with a hint of not-so-awesome DIM. Far from the awesomeness of DIM, but still awesome in it's own way. Overall rating would probably be around 7-8.

Viored - Kimikage Kusa. Hands down the greatest solo in the history of japanese rock. So awesome. So emotional. 9CQz_0gMGTg Also, many other Viored solos and almost every solo of X Japan, Gazette's Pledge has quite an epic solo too. Many Deluhi solos, Versailles etc. Personally I prefer guitar solos that has clear melodies, solos that really show the effort they put in it. I don't find pointless shredding as anything. (unless Jari Mäenpää is doing it while being a mastermind) Don't give a shit how fast someone can play, it's the composing skills that matter.
