    PSC circa 2003-2006 was the best time for the GazettE, MIYAVI, and pretty much every band that was on that label back then.

    Welcome my dear children! How's vk doing these days? 😎

    I see you can even listen to your weird japanese metal on Spotify, kids have it way too easy nowadays...
    BACK IN MY DAY I had to hunt single songs in 92kbps on dial-up Limewire and half the time ended up with "I did not have sexual relations with that woman.mp3".

    Funny story, that's how I got into vk! 13-year-old me was browsing the wide web, probably for some quality Britney Spears, and found a grainy Miyavi's Jibun Kakumei PV instead. With a 20MB download limit per day, I thought CLOSE ENOUGH and the rest is history.

    Now I'm back after over 10 years of impersonating a Serious Adult™ and I have Opinions™ to share.

    Some bands that I used to listen to (some of which are surprisingly still around!): Miyavi (duh), MUCC, Merry, girugamesh, 9GOATS BLACK OUT, Hora, Kaya, Schwarz Stein (can't believe they got back together, it's like I never left!) and the whole shebang, Aural Vampire, Kagrra,, Yoshiki's classical stuff~

    And some bands that I've discovered in the past few weeks and absolutely love: Initial'L and consequently Lycaon, DIMLIM, Xaa-Xaa~

    Also, I'm Anna 💩

    P.S. I also listen to a lot of kpop, all kinds of electronic and celtic music; don't expect there to be much overlap but you never know! if your music taste is as all over the place as mine, hit me up, we can share obscure recommendations!

    I do know batsu but nah, it was a smaller forum that went on for several years and then died in flames of internal drama. I still follow some of the members I used to be friends with on social media, but I couldn't even tell you the name of it at this point ^^;

    Never heard Mejibray, need to get onto that, for science. But I'm confused why do both of them need to sing? I mean, one has clearly a better voice and the other.....well....has a voice?

    I happen to like chiptune and 8bit so that's probably what got me hooked ^^;

    Same here. Also the lyrics for some of them are cute lol.

    I think their newer release is better too, though chip tune may not be to everyone's taste. That being said, I never liked mejibray's music but genki's voice change is a loss!!!

    I guess my unpopular opinion is that I'm glad 8P-SB exists lmao. Genki and koichi seem much happier, for one. Music is sometimes a train wreck, but I'm sure they'll eventually get their shit together (<--another unpopular opinion?)

    spockitty reacted to secret_no_03 in Japanese Anti-Feminism
    I'm an avid watcher of Yuta and Nobita on YouTube and occasionally watch Asian Boss, and the videos about feminism or lack there of in Japan is fascinating. America and Europe has always had deeply rooted feminism and Japan seems to be the exact opposite, the interviews with the average Japanese women would make feminists head explode; the women surprisingly or maybe not so surprisingly felt that women already had more rights and advantages than men and had it easier than men which is far and away from the institutionalized patriarchy and what has been called the anti-cis-white-male movement by many, not just incels.

    This could technically open up to a broader conversation about conservatism being the norm in Japan, but that's another topic, best not to muddy the waters.

    Is it really?

    As for this topic, I’d say it feels forced. In the video we’re Toshyia and Shinya kiss each other, it’s possible that they were drunk since they seem to have been drinking a lot.

    As a bi person, this whole fanservice thing is weird. I don’t like having them being forced to pander to a bunch of girls, especially if they aren’t LGBT.

    Sadly, LGBT rights in Japan, from my understanding, are pretty much non-existent and discussions of sexuality are not widely talked about like it is in the West. It’s still considered a taboo and general attitudes towards the whole subject are negative on the whole. Not to mention the Japanese culture favors homogenization, or the group mentality, so being different among the “group” is not highly looked upon, and one would most likely be socially ostracized or even bullied (These are not my views on the subject, just something that unfortunately exists ^^;)

    As for the topic, as mentioned before, BL fanservice has been and will always be a thing. I don’t think it ever disappeared or went away. I guess if it brings in money/attention from the fans, it’ll be something that bands will do.

    And do you still listen to the same bands you were at the beginning? Because I don't know about the others but Miyavi's music today and in early 00's is like night and day. As big of a die hard fan I used to be back then, it's just not my cup of tea anymore~

    I think that's the main thing I have a problem with in general.
    If all of this was genuine or just friendly teasing that everyone involved agreed to and had nothing against? You do you (or your bandmate). But please, in a roomful of supposedly straight men you'll find maybe one or two that would actually be fine with this stuff.
    So with all of that going in my head, I feel doubly embrassased and uncomfortable both on behalf of the band and the fans >.>

    I've just changed cars but haven't had the chance to change car radio's yet, so my current one has only a CD player (no AUX, no USB, no Bluetooth wtf?!). Anyway, listening to radio stations pisses me off so I had to undust my CD collection (incidentally most of the music I own in CD format is vk ^^).

    The point of this rant is, I keep all of my CD's in foil. Yep, all of them, some for 15 years. I did unpack them, took them out, ripped them but then I put them back in foil. So now that I not only have to take them off the shelf, I have to listen to them in a car radio when they can get scratched if a bigger bump comes along?!

    Guys, I drive more cautiously not to scratch my CDs. That's my life now.

    Well, I can't speak for gay men, but as a queer person I can tell you that yep, it's actually pretty insulting.
    Of course it comes down to personal feelings, you will find people who don't mind. Me, I don't find it entertaining to have my sexuality performed by straight people, for titillating a crowd that may otherwise find it repulsive. I also don't go on crusades to tear down everyone who enjoys said performances, cause as I said, I get the point. If I can manage to stop my brain from overthinking shit for 5 minutes, I can even get myself to enjoy some of it! ~le gasp~

    I also want you to know that I'm trying really hard to limit the rantiness of my ranting, cause as you can probably tell, I have a lot to say on the topic ^^;

    Hoo boy, can't speak for the current trends but I don't think it will ever die out completely. As long as a big chunk of the fanbase consists of hormonal teenage girls (speaking as a hormonal teenage girl of years past that lively participated in this culture).

    I do find it cringey and problematic now that I'm older and wiser, but I get why they're doing this (a disclaimer, by "it" I mean this kind of fanservice and RPF fanfiction not reading/writing gay fanfiction in general). Think of all the queerbaiting in western shows, they do it for a reason also. Not exactly the same, but it serves the same purpose, it keeps a certain type of fans engaged. In this essay I will....

    Jkjk, I'm not certain you were looking for debate on queer representation, stereoptyping and exploitation in Japanese media? XD
