Someone who knows better about kpop imitating black culture should tackle this but yeah, it's a thing. Thankfully a thing that my Shinee boys don't do. Hopefully?

I live in south east asia so kpop is unavoidable for me. I can only speak for myself, but what I noticed around me was that the people who first got into kpop weren't into jpop.

They were 'mainstream normies' so to speak, so 2000s kpop being more accessible from the start meant that they had much greater exposure to kpop than jpop in the first place. My general impression back then was that kpop was seen as 'fresher',  'more polished' than jpop which has been around for a few years already. So there was the general public getting into kpop + jpop/vk/etc fans getting into kpop but little to no fans gained for jpop/vk. So that was that. Though it was obvious that kpop was taking trend cues from japanese music, like how early dbsk had visual kei hairstyles lol. But they quickly found a style that simply appealed more to the foreign public than jpop/vk did imo. I mean, they had government backing, so....

What I dislike about kpop is how they pigeonhole members, like oh guy 1 is the singer, guy 2 is rap and so on. It's weird how they introduce themselves explicitly like that. Of course they have their own strengths but why do that?

I don't know about 2010 kpop but I think the surviving groups and artists from 2000s kpop are still quite good and are beginning to have their own musical input.

I specifically like songs (partially) written and composed by Donghae of Suju for some reason:

Two at the moment, working on the third. I'm getting close to 150 GB of footage total.

Once I get the third link up, I'll start adding the individual links in the dropdown lists.

    -
I've grabbed a few off these channels:
    Victor Entertainment: https://www.youtube.com/user/VictorMusicChannel
    Lantis: https://www.youtube.com/user/lantis

Avex has uploaded a metric ton of lives that'll be available until the end of the month: https://www.youtube.com/user/avexnetwork/videos

I'll be working on downloading those when I'm done w/ the other stuff.

    -

Also, putting search terms like "audience delivery", "no-audience delivery", "studio live", etc. (obv. in Japanese) will reveal a ton of livestream content on YouTube. I've had to pick & choose quite a bit, so I might miss on some people's favorites. If anyone has like a single video, feel free to shoot me a PM, but it would also be helpful if we could get a few more people to join in on the downloading.

For YouTube, I'm using youtube-dl (https://github.com/ytdl-org/youtube-dl). If anyone is uncomfortable with cli  for some reason, there is youtube-dlg (https://mrs0m30n3.github.io/youtube-dl-gui/) it's severely outdated, though. You could also use online downloaders, one of which is just prepending the url's "youtube.com" with "ss" to make "ssyoutube.com".

Minyami for Nico Lives (https://github.com/Last-Order/Minyami). You need to install Git for Windows and Node.js (LTS is fine) before attempting the instructions.

Certain Nico Lives that are under channel paywall, but not premium paywall usu. won't have added DRM/HLS encryption which segments the video. You can use something like HLS Downloader: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/hls-downloader/apomkbibleomoihlhhdbeghnfioffbej?hl=en. Keep in mind you should set the video to the highest quality stream (usu 3MB) and then select the lowest (like scroll down to the bottom, lowest) option in the sniffer section.

I use Line Live Downloader (https://github.com/zyzsdy/linelive-downloader/releases) which is ultra straightforward. Download the latest release and launch the program. It's pretty straightforward/easy.

VK downloading can be accomplished through https://addoncrop.com/vk-video-and-music-downloader/. You need a vk account, but it's pretty painless. I don't plan on using my acc. for anything.

Finally, Twitcasting videos can be acquired via VLC using the "Network Stream" feature.

Compared to others on the forum, I only got into metal and prog-rock maybe a few months after J-rock (and then Visual Kei.) I was always interested in very atmospheric 80's/90's pop, AOR (album-oriented rock), R&B, and yacht-rock. It was a combination of my parent's music and "watching" MTV music videos all day as an infant that made that kind of music comforting & impressionable to me. Stuff like 90's R&B gospel synth sounds and chord progressions that were so prominent during that time were also popular in J-pop, so I'm not surprised that I would take interest in Japanese music. Also, J-music, and a lot of East Asian contemporary music, continued to roll with that melodic slant while Western Music would have more distinct, separate music eras/styles. Japan was also that main entertainment powerhouse in the late 90's ~ early 00's for most of us in that East Asian space, which meant exposure to anime, games, and the like at an early age.

Fast forward to about '08 ~ '10 I was transitioning from J-pop & trance to listening to rock bands like No Regret Life, UVERworld, flumpool, RADWIMPS, Last Alliance, Breakerz, etc. Got into Janne Da Arc pretty heavy and then an absolute flurry of Visual Kei stuff. I really liked the heavy soft-synth with the really visceral, raw instrumentals combined with the cool, effeminate ikemen visuals. Visual Kei became kind of my own space for a time because I knew almost nobody who knew about it, so it felt very special to me.

No problem! I was trying to think of active bands that are similar to nurié but couldn't come up with any at the time. So I just gave random suggestions instead haha.

Now that I think about it, develop one's faculties should have something in common with nurié, but I'm not familiar with them.

Yeah nurie was like an instant for me the moment I heard them! I'm really excited about them. I'm familiar with the popular acts though the only group from there so far that i connect with is Kizu, and maybe ACME (I used to like DIV).
I'm definitely gonna check out Ari, rakugaki, doku and kebyo. I'm sure checking in to these groups will help me rediscover my tastes as well. My tastes may simply be different this time around. Haha But thank you so much for your recommendations, I appreciate it.

Hi! Great to see another nurie fan! For heavy stuff you may like deviloof then.

Some popular vk acts: xaa xaa, kizu, razor, hueye, acme, scapegoat, dezert, arlequin.

Smaller vk bands: 蟻 (Ari), rakugaki, doku (friends of nurie!), Kebyo (仮病)

These are just random shots in the dark and may not to be your taste. Check them out though!

Is it fine to create another thread that has all the videos compiled & categorized under nested spoiler tags or is there a way for me to get the first post in this thread? It's feeling a bit cluttered, and in lieu of creating additional posts I've been updating older ones. I want to make it a bit easier to have everything organized.

It would also be a way to separate older uploaded recordings from the newer lives.
