The Ghost Stories dub is gods gift to the world. You think Cowboy Bebops dub is good? You aint seen nothin

I definitely prefer subs, but there's some good dubs out there. Ghost in the Shell SAC's dub  is one that I actually prefer to the original.

I just think westerners have a different outlook on animation in general than the Japanese do. Like in western culture, the animation world seems dominated by stuff either geared towards children/family or adult/comedy, with very little inbetween. Whereas anime explores a lot of territory that would not safely fit in either extreme.

There's also this tendency in the west to view animation as simply "cartoons", and so ppl generally have different expectations for western animation. And that being the case, I think it's easy for a lot of these companies to skimp on finding good, suitable voice actors because they're usually not approaching these series with the same perspective, or the same level of integrity as the original creators.

my sister asked me why do I hate english anime dubs so much and it forced me to actually think about it and respond, and I think it's because so much of the... temperament? is lost. there's cultural value in the inflection and such. also, it just sounds unnatural to me and it takes me out of the action. in any language I'd choose subtitles over dubs tbh
