  1. Why am I so bad at comforting people? I can't listen to someone without feeling like I have to say something back, and if I don't know what to say, I feel useless. It wouldn't be so bad, but everyone just kind of expects me to "be there" for them when I know I'm not compassionate enough for that. Maybe I should re-evaluate whether I really want to become a therapist. I want to work with children, so I guess that'd be a bit easier as children generally tend to want a straightforward solution as opposed to the "there, there, it's going to be okay" that a lot of adults want (you'd think it'd be the other way around, but it's not), but it still wouldn't be totally easy for me.

so if relationship has to be balanced and your friends are too opened while you're too closed, guess you have to, like, "occupy more space" in those relationships? to suppress their domination by strengthening your presence.

Thanks, I'll try that. So far, I've just tried telling them there's nothing I can do for them (that is, if there really is nothing I can do for them... I try to help when I can), but I'm sure there's another way I could feel a bit more useful without seeming dickish.

i think if you're really close they should understand that's just the way you are...or they may not know it now, because well people can't read minds, but if you tell them once the way you deal with such situations they will understand and accept it〜
