My guess is that any Kyuutai song would be most likely handled by old DC geezers

i.e. maybe the producer of Kyuutai a.k.a Ken of L'Arc~en~Ciel? Or having a full circle and involving Hyde too? I couldn't imagine older artists being out of place really now that I mentioned it.

If "tribute" means we will get various acts covering MUCC songs, we can also question the possible selection of artists involved in case that happens - small Danger Crue names with some other possible indie vk names? Their fellow bands? "Senpais"?

    I am intrigued.

I will revamp this exact similarity/definitely likely case of plagiarism because there's something very LedZeppish in terms of credits (ha!):

This exact enka (?) piece by Ichiro Fujiyama (?) from many decades back has been actually HEAVILY SAMPLED/IMPLEMENTED as an overall theme to one of Dir en grey's "remixes" - WITHOUT any credits nor specific royalties aimed towards Fujiyama family - and this is way too obvious I tell you.

@Zeuswould definitely love to take this into account in case he decides to work on the next edition of "six similar..."-thread along with that very funny but cute Prince reference/tribute on one of the "latest" Carrygarry tracks (Thanks @Disposable for that btw)

@Carmelzors- tons of cool picks on your list, and some that we share in common! Pleasantly surprised to see stuff like めめ and ゑでぃまぁこん mentioned since you don't see acts like this brought up very often. " EGO-WRAPPIN' AND THE GOSSIP OF JAXX" I also wanted to include, but I went with "merry merry" since we could only do one album per artist - and I can't really choose between the two!

@indigo - also fantastic picks. I FREAKING FORGOT TO INCLUDE OWARIKARA!! Was going to include "door tachi", but apparently I got mixed up somewhere along the way and forgot about it. fffffff. I didn't include THE BACK HORN, but if I did, THAT would be the album!!! SuiseiNoboAz, jinmenusagi, Boris, Merry, EVISBEATS...the list of goodies is endless.

@hiroki- I think the only album i've listened to from yours is DIV's "zero one". Gonna miss those guys!

@plastic_rainbow- very nice list. I wanted to include three releases by THE NOVEMBERS too, haha! "to (melt into)" is would DEFINITELY be in my top too!

@beni &  @doombox - also great lists! I was gonna make mine in a similar fashion at first, but then changed my mind. 100 is a bit more restraining than I thought it would be - now that I finished, i'm remembering all the stuff I forgot to include. XD Maybe I'll do another in the future, so I can go ham with all the different releases I love by the same artists too.

Really cool to see everyone's respective tastes!

I realized like halfway through the default was Top 42... so I left it at that heh.

Probably changes a bit weekly of course. Each tier is not in order (other than vaguely alphabetical).

Biggest omission I notice is no Kagerou... I loooooove their early singles but they don't have any albums I'm that excited about. Oh well.

I definitely have boring VK tastes.

First of all, thanks to @indigofor suggesting that we could revamp this thread just to see how old MH attendees have progressed with their tastes and simultaneously gather some new bunch to present their all-time choices inside this Japanese music spectrum.

As the title says already, you will have a chance to use this topsters link (since original topsters links are dead) to create a chart representing your tier 1, 2, 3...choices, depending on how much you are able to compile in terms of your Japanese favorites. And for the sake of fairness and challenge (huh?), it would be preferable to post 1 ALBUM PER ARTIST - and of course, make sure to post your jpg/png here for us to see

(hopefully this thread won't die soon)

mine (very difficult one - also, fuck my 2012 self):

(try to zoom or if you don't succeed, press ctrl and "+" together)

They are somewhat in order but I placed my picks from tier 1 choices (constant, essential) to tier 4 choices (might change, but still very memorable and enjoyable)

and spoilered titles (in order)  below:

Cracked, Buzzfeed, Gawker and The Cuck (oh yes, Gawker's new webmag for men...are you really serious, numales?) are pretty much all that same gray, irrelevant millenial mass to me. So what was the fuss again? One anonymous person exaggerating stories and getting most prolly some nice bucks for (sub)consciously shitting on sanely thinking VK fans? "One pax source = tr00 af by ALL means" has truly become the new dimension of so-called "journo investigation" - or let's name it correctly, "yellow sensationalist journalism". I mean holy heck - I would never think that we give these numales and other easily offended but hypocrite millenials a huge-ass limelight/spotlight for further shitposting.

As it was said above - as much as certain tsunagari/mitsu episodes may sound pretty funny, no scene in any genre is filled with roses, flowers and bees - there's a lot of dirt in all of them and exploiting dirt in this kind of "Goddamnit Japan" fashion  just double-standardizes the millenial concept of prejudice/racism/xenophobia (i.e. "I am allowed to trash  any (sub)culture I deem to be odd to me whereas others should not question me!!1!") even further.

I wish I would get the humor here but jesus christ, this guy seems to be too much of that typical Gawker journo type I really loathe (thank god for Hulkster showing that these journo offsprings don't mean a heck in this world).

edit: so it wasn't a guy but well...all the same nonetheless, feminist/numale sympathies.

Pretsy got a reaction from doombox in Western artists singing in Japanese
Since we are talking about western artists (preferably household names) doing tracks (e.g. self-covers, covers, original songs by any chance etc.) in our lovely Nihongo, this section would be the nice place for us to spread all that weeb love we have around here. So as it says: post western artists that may have (surprisingly enough) some (bonus) tracks in Japanese

    For instance

Rivers Cuomo (Weezer) and Scott Murphy (Allister)

    Mew (yes, that Danish band)

    The Police

    France Gall

    Nat King Cole

And as you may have noticed, this mainly revolves around artists who would otherwise do their stuff in English - and to restrict certain choices, definitely NO swede kei NOR Avril at this point (tacky and cringy).

Never really liked or cared for Gesu. The only song I've ever liked is the second one, "私以外私じゃないの". I would happily listen to that from time to time, but other than that, nothing else has caught my interest. And I doubt it ever will, mainly because it's Enon, and I really don't have a soft spot for his own work, nor voice, which I find most important. TK, on the other hand, has always had my support and attention, even if it all may be going downhill now. I've enjoyed his works, with the band and on his own, and continue to do so. It just has to be Ling for me!

Instead of random VK face-offs and even more random clusterfucks, let's try to bring the actual purpose of this format back:
    TK from Ling Tosite Sigure

    Gesu no Kiwami Otome

I tried my best to represent main aspects of these bands above, but anyways - why such comparison though (aside from both being side-projects)?

All in all, I find this battle to be rather serious one but fun nonetheless if you do really dig both acts (yeah yeah, not that we expect possible Enon bias here but I am curious about those who do not follow either really)

Scottish indie pop group Belle and Sebastian tried to perform this song in Japanese:
