    Ten years... damn.

    I've been here since 2008 I believe.
At that time I got all my DL's from a friend who was very into VK, until of course I came to old TW.
I think I stumbled upon the forum while searching for releases by Deathgaze and/or Thomas, if my mind doesn't trick me.

I remember not posting a lot back in the days, at TW I probably had less than 100 posts during my 2~ years there, so I started being active first when Toasted Waffles/MH came around.
In all honesty, I've been one of the members who's been here for quite some time, has left several times without saying a word... But in the end I'll always end up here again.
Due to my sudden retirements (specifically during 2011-2014, during which I visited MH about once every other week) I feel I have missed out on some of the stuff that has been going on, particularly the lit chat-era. I remember visiting the chat several times, but I never really participated in your sheningans. I also remember when the FB-group and Skype-chat was started, however I personally choose to not use them.

I do have some fun memories from my time here though! I remember all the demon android drama, Sparklies, Toasted Waffles, the drama between the former staff (dai?) and him wanting people to join his new forum, ppl faking 90's vk rares, the epic kiwamu topic, slsk hoarders finally joining MH and sharing rares, the secret VIP-forum (which I think I was allowed into for sharing a NEGA single lmao), the girl who tried to get Kiwamu to sign her even though she publically humiliated him on his FB etcetc. Shit, I probably stired up a lot of shit myself back in the days, I was a stupid teenager.

In the end, I have had a lot of fun here and this is undoubtedly the place (online) that I spent most of my teenage years at.
It is only in recent years that I started socializing with people here through other social medias (exception for lastfm), but most of you are great.
Here's to ten more years, cheers!

Oh boy it's been awhile. I still follow the group on fb and saw this post and thought "gahdamn, has it really been 10 years?" That means I've known some of you since I was  16/17 and some of you like champ213 probably even longer than that from tonberry days and the great migration. A wave of serious nostalgia passed over me. This forum and the people on it were such an integral part of my life for so long.

    Fond af memories:
downloads and rarez drama, Kiwamu hate, crappy indies vk thread, the mh Chat, chatting on msn messenger, chatting on soulseek lol, Jake's changing favorite bands every week, Dai/toasted waffles/the big change, being a mod and the staff dramaz (our pokemanz and mod colors too), yellow names, Fakkin' A, that dude mitsu (I think) who would randomly curse in the chat and had that terrible vk fanfiction and lyrics site, "generic" ,  Jake's feud with that dude that ended somehow with Cat5 and others infiltrating our ranks and then liking it here, lady revania drama, last.fm mass chart suicides and tagging dramaz, spinning on turntable.fm, when we first got emoticons and the subsequent abuse of said emoticons , demonandroid and all crappy vs. high quality rips dramaz, credit dramaz, IAMWILL, banning dramaz... okay lots of drama but ya'll get the point.

Some of the best friends I've made I made on this forum and some of you I've gotten a chance to meet irl and hope to still meet others in the future. I honestly thought I would be on here until the bitter end but a year or so after I moved to Tokyo and got buckled down with school and life I slow faded and before I knew it it all seemed so distant. But every now and then I think back to this place and when I see some of you guys on fb or elsewhere the memories do come flooding back and I'm happy and proud to have been a part of this community.

Some honorable mentions of some people Who've impacted my life on and off this board:
Cat5, Champ213, Maiku, Prism, Zeus, Mima, Shogu, Missa, Ito, Spike760, Biopanda, Furik, Aion, Ash and more.

So long and thanks for all the fish.

How time flies! Im also one of those coming over from batsu roughly 10 years ago and visting nearly every single day since. Like some, i was actively writing here in the early days but went silent after/leeching and now just post once in a while. Im amazed some people are active here for the same time and im reading their posts since all these years like Ito or Saku. I didnt like that some guys changed their username so i forgot who they were but for me Ramrod, Trombe and Champ213 were legends here that unfortunatly seemed to go away, taking a huge part of this forum for me with them (miss you Trombe!). Shoutout to some guys i remember i havent seen active here anymore like Kagerou, Kuregu, Spike760, DeathlikeS, stylelover, Ichibayo, ed47a, etc.
Some of the core members here left, but those who stayed aged mindly and have put the discussions to a more respectivly atmosphere imo. I think for many the glitter of vk crumbled when they realized how shitty and untalented 90% of all these hyped bands are, be it for live videos on youtube, a lot more people here going to actual lives in japan or just general increase in life experience. Its funny and a little annoying sometimes to read "newer" people hype those bands because of their photoshop pictures or ghost recorded CDs while you've seen how horrible musicians they are irl/at their live, but well. I've been there myself in the early days so let them be and have their fun

    - I remember the time when you could finally join the old VIP section and just saw an huge amount of (mostly shitty) rare stuff you could finally torture your ears with. What time to be alive.
    - I remember drama: Reviews of not yet shared CDs, stuff shared outside old VIP, stuff shared that someone bought at auctions, the person who thought she was robin hood sharing VIP stuff at LJ, etc. etc.
    - I remember the hardcore trolls but some seemed to get bored and left. A few stayed but they finally managed to become partly funny for me (or i just got used to it)
    - I remember shitty bands like Leviathan, unRuSt or brodiaea hyped to no end. The Death Gate CDs from brodiaea seemed like the holy grail. I feel while the amount of really bad bands and people hyping them decreased you really cant compare bad but well produced bands of these days (e.g. AvelCain) with how bad some were back in the days.

Thanks to everyone who keeps this forum alive! Wishing for many more good times and good new bands.

I would estimate I started lurking here pretty soon after things got off the ground, I remember back in the day people advertising Tainted World as a replacement for the Batsu download forum which it's now-infamous admin Kevin decided to take down after being told off by someone or just having some stroke of paranoia. Either way, as long as Batsu flourished I only used TW for downloads and once that forum started declining and I simultaneously had some harsh encounters over there I went into lurker mode for several years. I decided to make my comeback only in 2012 at the insistence of other members here ( @Biopanda and @allisapp) and started hanging out regularly in the chat primarily, which is why I'm sure I'm most familiar to the chatbox crew.

All things considered, those years when the chat had it's most intense activity, were truly great. Like @Disposablesaid, it was a short (I think less than two years?) but very intense period and so many things passed by. There was the DemonAndroid drama involving his many cousins of unknown provenance who always seemed to provide "legit" (read: Youtube) rips of wanted CDs. Then in the end when his transcodes got banned all he could do was ask people to come upstairs.

I remember the guy from Colombia who hung out for like two weeks and talked about trains and raping corpses. It was a strange little parenthesis but I remember it well for some reason.

There was drama back and forth with Ryu/DarkWater/tons of other alt accounts, long speculations and teasing about what sai actually looks like, discussions about angura rarez in the old old Skype chat that caused Prism to ban me and a bunch of my friends... Zess and his ever shorter username. I'm sure there's more but it takes time to remember everything.

There have been differences in opinion between how a forum is best run to be sure between myself and some of the staff, culminating in the revolt and finally break which I helped facilitate. But ultimately I think this forum gained a lot from that event. Just like the protestant reformation forced much needed changes to the catholic church, this place underwent a lot of changes for the better after that and I can honestly say right now that I'm quite happy with the way things are. I've met a lot of amazing people here and I can honestly say that it really has changed my life for the better. If anyone still have hard feelings from those days, I hope we can move on and hopefully face the coming years as a community.

I joined TW somewhen in 2008 just for the rarez and stuff back then, and it has become a huge part of my daily life that I keep visiting since.
Moreover, MH has so many veteran VK fans from various countries throughout the world, and that alone makes me think if you claim to be a VK fan but haven't heard of MH, you're probably just a n00b one. lol

Well, besides MH being an international J-Rock/VK community, it's also a place where I've been learning English from interacting with both native and non-native speakers. The fact that my English has been so much improved is because of the edit button and Google Translate people here. <33

It was also an honor that the staff approached me in October 2013 inviting me to join the team as a blue mod; otherwise, I wouldn't dare to sign up myself. lol. And that was the right decision, so I can contribute something I'm capable of doing to the community.

Finally, I would like to thank MH for existing all these years and all the people here for your valuable contributions.
Thank you so much for a great 10 years, and let's move forward to the future together.

A legendary epoch for me personally, even as far as my life really, was the heyday of the chat. I think I started appearing there around late 2011 and up until late 2013.  Anyone who was there at the time knows exactly what I'm talking about and how special that thing was.

At one point you could rest assured that someone would be there all the time, like Yasu or slsr or somebody else who seemed to be on the computer day and night. I pretty much spend as much time there as I could myself, and I when I left the house I had chat on mobile and when I got home I logged in with the computer! People who are new to this forum cannot even begin to imagine how many classic happenings took place there from those long running gags to all the fights like the big one that eventually sounded its death knell.

I try to relate a couple of favorite stories that I remember off the top of my head. I try to be as brief as possible so that people will actually read all this lol

One fairly recent character was my boi Kahzooey Tunasama from Scandal Heaven, who upon introducing himself proclaimed that he was going to leave the forum in September of something. Then he kept post-poning his exit until he made the ill-fated thread

He showed up to the chat a couple of times too, but wasn't all that enthralling a person. We did go trolling on scandal heaven one day, and I think at least Cat and sai took the literal piss. I haven't laughed that much too many times in my life.

When raburr joined and dove-eyed and fuzzy tailed I hazed the fuck out of him in the chat. For the life of me I don't remember what he said, but I kept copypasting some nonsense supposedly under his name where he had said something to or about sai, and sai played along and pretended that what I wrote was legit. I'm surprised he even stayed after all that lolol great guy though. The ones I love I treat the worst.

Back in 2012 I had to go and practice dancing for my lovely lady at the upcoming prom, and being the age of the chat as it were I was pretty much in there every chance I got. Chat when I rode the tram; chat when I waited to hit the ballroom; chat when I was at mcdonalds afterwards and before ( true og's remember I was at Mcdonald's every day, a habit I continue to this day god bless ). On one fateful day Maiku had bought a book from Barnes & Noble or some shit and had manage to get the dumb glitter ornament from the cover into his eye, and now he was going about it in the chat as I was leaving home. When I was riding the tram he was there; when I was about to start and when I stopped ceased dancing, he was there; when I went to Mcdonald's for like an hour he was still there going on about the hazards of gold dust and any possible lawsuits he might be able to undertake against barnes and noble. This might have went on for hours and hours without a pause. We don't have that shop in Finland, but if they have went bankrupt unexpectedly in recent years, now you know why.

I'll write more as they come to me, and I hope some of the other OG chat members could contribute. This forum has been an instrumental part of my life ever since I joined, so like eight years. Over the years I've met like over ten yous irl as friends, enemies and even romantic liaison. I want to give a shoutout to all the original yellow name crew members.

Also thank you especially to all the characters that sojourned in the chat back in the day. I'd like to thank everyone individually, and I even tried, but honestly there's just so many and it'd be a great injustice to honor one and omit the other.  Even those who were only there for a couple of times but contributed to the laughs either with their wit, stupidity or both. You know who you are

Ten years ago on this exact day my thirteen year old self was browsing myspace, like most kids my age back then did in their free time, when I came across a post on a Jrock group I frequented at the time. The post was by a "Jake" advertising a brand new Jrock forum that he and a friend created just earlier that day. At the time I was chomping at the bit for any new way to discover new Japanese rock music (VK in particular), I immediately registered and became the fourth member of that brand new empty forum. That forum's name was Tainted World and the Jake and friend in question were none other than Spike760 and Ito.

Since that day I have had many ups and downs with this community for better and worse. I've discovered a thousand or more bands, talked with hundreds of people from all corners of the world, made dozens of friends and like minded acquaintances, and even made a few enemies as well. I have witnessed every drama thread/post/chat log that this forum has generated, participated in profound thought invoking discussions that have sprouted up in various topics over the course of a decade, and even was here to witness the almost catastrophic implosion of the site back in 2010-2011 that led to the current domain name. I became a moderator and for a time actually did my job quite well (LOL) this gave me a direct line to grow the community in other ways than just music, in those efforts I would like to believe that the anime and video game fans of the community found this place a little more accommodating and welcome.

In ten years my musical taste has gone through multiple transformations that were no doubt in big part due to the people here in this community. I have grown as a person due to my time here, I've learned how to deal with life's unfortunate circumstances and how to cope when things go bad. This place has been a eternal sanctuary for me in my depressing and boredom filled times. I'm now twenty four years old and no longer the child I was when I came to this place, that in itself is a little sad, since my most fun and memorable moments were from those early years when I was still in middle and high school just trying to find a place I could fit in and kill some time.

But one thing is for sure... This place is a second home for me, no matter how busy my life gets I know that I can come back here and just be myself and feel good about it.

Ten years? I say that's not enough. I won't be satisfied until I can say I've been apart of this place for 20 years, what the hell fuck it. 30 years! Why not? WE CAN KEEP THE DREAM ALIVE  AS LONG AS WE BELIEVE!

Laurence02 reacted to Takadanobabaalien in Fastest growing vk band of all time?
This is something I've been thinking about for quite some time,
I am always impressed by vk bands who manage to get huge in little to no time, but which is actually the fastest growing vk band of all time?

I can't find any listing like this online, so if anybody knows any bands who progressed really really fast, feel free to write about them here.

The first one that comes to mind for me is LUNA SEA

January 1989 - start band activities (no label deal).
December 1989 - Sold out Machida playhouse (150 tickets sold). (Just for measure, I've never seen Grieva sell more than 250 tickets/gig in their 6 year career).
November 1990 - Sold out Meguro Live station two days straight (500 tickets sold)
March 1991 - Nuclear Fusion Tour (/w Gilles de Rais & Sighs of Love potion) sold out Shibuya Kokaido (2080 tickets sold)
April 1991 - To celebrate their debut album @ extasy records, they giged at Shinjuku Nissin Power station. (800 tickets sold out in less than 30 minutes)
September 1991 - Under the new moon tour final @ nihon aonenkan (1250 tickets sold)
December 1991 - to match the fan request they announced two days gig at nihon aonenkan (2500 tickets sold).
August 1993 - first Budoukan gig (two days, which eventually turned into one day because a typhoon destroyed part of the building) (14,000~ tickets sold)
December 1995 - first Tokyo Dome gig (56,000 tickets sold)

So, after signing with Extasy in 1990, going major in 1991 (a mere year later) to having their first dome gig 4 years afterwards, and getting it sold out. I think it's very impressive. I'm sure there must be bands who have managed to do it equally fast, or even faster though?

"IT IS A TRAVESTY WHEN VKEI BANDS TONE DOWN THEIR VISUALS"

I had to use a fucking Gaia Online widget site to make that text, so you know I mean it. I honestly get really upset when I try out older, god-tier vkei bands and look at their old pictures and see how fetishy they looked at one point, and their most recent pictures are pretty much regular Japanese guys, maybe one with auburn colored hair and one having blond, in street clothing. One of my biggest appeals with visual-kei is the visuals: I live for frilly, neon hair, guys who can't paint, feathers, bloody bandages, useless face belts, hooker stockings, 8 inch Hot Topic boots, naziploitation, and unnatural eye colors. To an extent, I do feel that there is a lot of creativity that can go into stage costumes, and it is a damn shame that there isn't more effort put into visuals in an artistic sense, instead of "our frontman is blond and we have a trappy bassist so we are vkei ok." Obviously as the scene has become more streamlined, there are typical styles and ~*~visual shock~*~ approaches that are going to be repeated over and over, but that isn't to say that one day someone else will share my stance on it.

Take Malice Mizer, for example, They took visuals and theatrics to the extreme to accompany their music. Versailles, to a lesser extent, did as well. As did groups like Raphael, Lareine, Missa, and listenable Diru. However, groups like Penicillin, Pierrot, Luna Sea, Kuroyume, and Rentrer en Soi all mellowed out as time went on. I get that Hakuei no longer wearing having flowing red hair in a pvc g-string is going to appeal to a larger audience, but that doesn't mean I have to be fucking happy about it. Due Le'Quartz is the biggest offender here. Their outfits were stellar, and then they ended in 3 piece suits with cigars and sun glasses. MYV, put those bat wings back on and cut this shit out.

This all stems from my appreciation of androgyny. I do find being gender ??? to be artistic, not only in vkei but in other art forms as well, and find the elements of visual-kei costumes that shroud the band members' humanity to be fascinating. That's why I really don't care about finding pictures of Mana without makeup because I can already tell that home girl needs Adobe's help.

Hm... I have to disagree. Now I am not really a big Metal fan (despite I have been one of those silly mallgoth kids who listened to Dimmu Borgir and so on... but lost interest into it) and I am not very happy with the evolution of visual kei. My problem with neo visual these days aren't really that bands have drastically changed, but their sound doesn't attract me. Of course we could argue how many bands today really play Metal and I bet there aren't that much left. Most vk bands play just simply harder rock or Metalcore, but not straight Metal. Or their Metal compositions are pretty weak and technically bad compared to "real" Metal bands and that would also explain why most Metalheads avoid VK like the plague or see it as a kind of a joke.
So I'd rather blame Metalcore and that whole Badass Indie Rock fad (also Electro/Technorock...).

Isn't it pretty logical that Metal is as poseurish as VK when Visual kei was an offspring of the japanese (Hair) Metal scene? Despite all the post-punk and goth influences old school visual kei too had a big amount of Metal influences. Probably not as strong or obvious than the fathers of visual kei (X, Aion and friends) or modern visual bands, but it was there. You can't really explain all that "br00tal" guitar slamming and growling in faster old school songs with "that's the post-punk influence". Goth normally isn't that aggressive (except maybe deathrock, which also had some influence on 90s visual kei. But a deathrocker would turn your neck for comparing it with Metal).

And to the old school topic: I  sadly am one of your elitist Goth fuckers. Seriously, I enjoy New Wave and post-punk songs more than modern gawfick music and Metal. That already makes me ignorant towards new visual kei. Though I am not sure if we can really consider old school vk to be that full of gothic influences. There are definitely metal influences too and there have been groups like Velladonna and Vasalla, which I can't really put under the goth-wave tag. I guess our very perception about what old visual kei is, is distorted by our favour for labels like Matina or Soleil. But old visual kei was much more than those amateurish indie bands. There were so many bands who played a mix of all kinds of musical styles that once upon a time were really popular in both Great Britain, the US and Japan. Old school visual kei even had electronic or "industrial" bands (Dune xxx? Blame Honey?)

I still have the same opinion I had in the last threads i discussed this topic. I will always favour old school visual kei bands more, because they just have the sound i like and I am honest about my intolerance. And I pretty much entered the whole visual thing with groups like old Dir en grey, Malice Mizer, Moi dix Mois and Coll:Set era D'espairsRay. Visual kei has changed, I can understand that. Like I have said in another thread, visual kei was always doomed to adapt to current trends and transforming into something else in order to survive. The scene still has some pearls to offer in the big pile of shit (which isn't a mere neo visual problem, as the flood of terrible bands already started 1996 and probably before). There are some pearls even I like. But visual kei today has become something entirely different, musically and visually. And yeah, I also tend to look after great visuals. I don't do that in other genres (seriously... there aren't that many well dressed or beautiful people in most alternative genres, including post-punk) but I do that when I search for new vk bands. Why? Because it's called visual kei and therefore I can consider their looks to be an important part of the band. When I see agroup which has interesting looks I kinda start to wonder if they also sound good. Mostly, I am going to be disapoointed, but hey... I tried

The only thing that pisses me off as an old school lover is the fact, that the scene doesn't offer good kote kei bands. Most people nowadays just don't give a shit about the 90s bands and the possible target audience is little and small- which means that there will always be only a few bands playing this style. I can accept that, as there will only be as much groups as ther is demand for them. But unfortunately (or sadly?) all of these bands have potential but don't use it; instead they just copy and play the same shit we have heard 10 years ago over and over again. I really like Grieva and Ru:natic... but i just wish they could create something I have never heard.

I can't agree with the notion of darker bands getting more exposure though... Most "darker" visual kei bands today re just sounding heavier but that doesn't mean they are edgier and gloomier. They just play "heavier" music (I know the term is pretty subjective and debatable itself). And yeah, they may have angsty lyrics. But heavy/hard/Metal/brutal/whatever music + angsty lyrics don't make a band dark. Hell, I would even agree when someone says that 80% of all gothic rock music is, in fact, not dark. Now it is really hard to define what makes a band truly dark, gloomy or melancholic... I think that's truly subjective. But I personally don't perceive most visual kei groups today to be dark. Especially not when we are talking about groups like Gazette, Mejibray or Versailles (especially the last... they are not edgy just because they wear frilly clothes and like vampire stories).
And the scene has many, several, melancholic or "darker" bands who don't get that much recognition. Like, I am still surprised how a group like emmurée who make such awesome post-punky music don't have that many fans and are heavily underrated. I'd say the same for 9GOATS BLACKOUT (though I don't really dig their stuff), cocklobin, Dish an others. I could say this for most visual and visual kei leaning bands who are coming from the Nagoya kei or Angura kei "scene". Those bands are also the ones that convince me, that visual kei isn't completely dead and that the scene can still serve some great bands. But the fans just don't care about them that much.

And I don't think bands are imitating old Nagoya kei á la Kuroyume either. Most bands are rather fascinated with Kiyoharu's later works or Dir en grey after their Vulgar era.
And weren't we all complaining just a few years ago, that the scene was overfilled with colourful, one dimensional oshare kei and "nyappi, everything is cool and the world is great" bands? Guess that hate for either colourful or dark bands change every new year...
And I am afraid visual kei was always full of pop rock bands. They sure are pretty one dimensional and sound like any other pop band, but it's not like the problem of softie visual rock was new. In the 90s there were many poppish bands as well. I'd even go as far to say soft visual was it's direct ancestor. I think visual kei already changed into a mass phenomenom that became a part of the fashion industry when the "genre" reached it's highest peak of popularity between 1993 and 1996. That was the time when once oh so punky, rebellish bands dropped their big hair and new wave facemask and changed into bright, casual clothes, normal hair and less make up (see Kuroyume, Shazna, L'arc~en~ciel). It seems you just can't survive or exist as a visual band without either changig into a pop group, doing the same shit until eternity or disbanding.

(okay, i'm gonna stop now or i will write the next deep analysis of visual kei culture...)

"Old-school/90's VK wasn't really much better" With so many people parading around old-school superiority, I'd say I'm in the minority with this opinion. As someone who has been in VK for ~10 years and collects tons of old-school stuff, I can certainly say without a bit of doubt that there were a TON of really shitty bands back then. Anyone who would say otherwise is looking through some pretty rose-tinted glasses. That being said, I certainly do miss some of sub-scenes in VK that no longer exist(soft visual/white-kei/proto-oshare) and don't exactly like all of the "sounds" that bands tend to get grouped into nowadays, but I definitely can't say that one era was better or worse than the other as they all have their ups and downs.

Just look at Dir en grey's similar artists on Last.fm, all VK bands harharhar.

I mean come on, Sadie is a VK band correct? Rentrer en Soi was also a VK band right? Yet they all had vocal training from Kyo or give credit to Kyo personally working with their vocalist to hone their vocal technique. To say that Dir en grey has no connection to VK is hogwash. Just search bandmen blogs and you'll find a post here and there with Toshiya or Kaoru hanging out back stage at some tiny little VK dive gig.

Like I dunno, Kaoru and KISAKI chillin.

So basically I agree that Dir en grey is still VK-ish. They certainly don't dress up anymore and are very casual but their connection to VK is still there, though more or less indirect.

    __

My controversial opinion is that VK fans don't care about the music.

Okay, that statement is more of a joke but there's still some truth behind it. Just face it, most of us were drawn to VK because of how flashy and colorful it is. A lot of us were originally anime fans and VK is basically anime IRL almost. The guys are so colorful, so outrageous looking and are essentially a fantasy character. So it's easy to get into VK when anime was your gateway. That's why I think cosplaying bands, RPing as bandmen and writing fanfiction is so common because that's something that is done in the anime fandom. So seeing it among VK fans really doesn't surprise me and why I don't think it's a bad or weird thing either.

So basically when someone claims they don't care about the image at all, yet have entire Last.fm profile full of nothing but VK I call bullshit. There is absolutely no way you don't care about the looks. It's why almost all of us are here in the first.

And you know what? Who the fuck cares if that's what drew you in and is your main reason for sticking around. Trying to get on your high horse and claim you are better than everyone else because you don't masturbate to Kamijo every night is more obnoxious and worse than the girls that admit they get off every night to fanart picture of Kamijo molesting HIZAKI.

Anyway, I'm in a hurry and on my phone. I don't think I really explained myself that clearly. I don't mean to say we all want to fuck bandmen but we're all still vane and pretentious so get over yourself and accept that you are just as superficial as the rest of the VK fandom. Deal with it.

I agree so much has already been lost... Strangely I feel like there was way more material in the way of scans, bootleg lives/off-shot or special videos, etc. when visual kei was harder to come by. YouTube has deleted at least half of the stuff I watched, and I don't know anyone that has that stuff anymore unless they own the original it came from or kept the original files. This also applies to releases and looks of a lot of lesser or no-name bands. The same is especially true with out of print magazines like Vicious and Fool's Mate. You can somewhat easily buy older editions of these in Japan, but I'm sure some day even that time will pass.

Tho isn't cheki a more "recent" thing? The camera film itself has been around for quite some time, but I feel like only in the past 10 years have bands started replacing photo sets with cheki. I suppose the latter is also more economical for bands just starting out, rather than pay for a professional photographer/studio time and printing. I feel like in the "old" days I didn't see a lot of cheki besides the lottery drawing signed cheki prizes offered by VK magazines.

However, I'm eternally thankful there are places like the VK Database preserving information about the bands themselves, including discographies and the line, and many Japanese members that still contribute to it.

Since the majority of my favorite visual kei bands are from the early 1990s, I pretty much have to buy magazines or magazine clippings if I'm looking for harder to find pictures.  I own an 18 gallon plastic container that I have to put my magazines, photobooks, magazine clippings, and tour pamphlets in and I still have 20+magazines/folders of magazine clippings stashed away.  However, I have like two years worth of Shoxx and Cure magazines from 2014-2016 in that container with my early 1990s magazines.

I mainly only by magazine/magazine clippings featuring Aura, BY-SEXUAL, Color, Genkaku Allergy, and Kamaitachi.  BY-SEXUAL has been the hardest to buy since they super popular their first two years, were featured in some magazines every month during that period, and were often in the same magazine issues as Buck-Tick and X Japan.  So that raises the prices of the magazines if I do find the magazine I'm looking for.

If you can't tell by looking at my avatar, Kamaitachi is my bias when it comes to VK bands.  I like to collect everything related to this band.  Too bad my least favorite member is the only one still active in music.  Outside of what was published from the end of last year to this year due to their reunion, I have almost all of the magazines/articles that Kamaitachi were featured in.  Of the early '90s articles/magazines, I'm only missing 6 articles featuring them that aren't from fanzines.  Outside of a few magazines and their 1991 tour pamphlet, I have scanned everything I own that features Kamaitachi.  In most of the folders in my screencap below have anywhere between 50 to 100 pictures.

I'm kind of like Champ in terms of loyalty. If I like something, more than likely I'll like them forever even if they're not hip anymore :C I do have a few examples of bands that aren't timeless for me:
However, the biggest Jrock example of this would be Deluhi for me. I absolutely loved "Two Hurt" and "Hybrid Truth," but then Yggdrasomething came out and I didn't really like it. Revolver Blast really didn't help, and then I kinda just stopped listening to them from there. I liked "The Furthest" though, but I didn't even bother listening to their latest single.
I was a big 9goats fan for like a week as well. I kind of stopped listening to them for a while because I wasn't depressed anymore and then their latest album came out. I really can't get myself to like melancholic music much, so I broke up with them.
Basshunter. The fuck was I thinking. Listening to anything by him just makes me embarrassed. And to think I tried to woe someone with one of his songs...
    *thinks*
    ...
I was a pretty big HIGH and MIGHTY COLOR fan a few years back...then I just stopped following them since they stopped making songs in Gundam SEED.
Looking through my old iPod, apparently I used to really like X-Japan as well. I don't dislike them, I just don't feel like listening to them...ever really. Every so often I get the urge to listen to "Orgasm."

"Wait, what do you mean The GazettE wasn't a 90's band? They wore black lipstick though!"
(I know this one isn't specifically Vkei, but the band in question has been lumped into Vkei so much.) "Wagakki band is the only true Japanese folk metal band and these vocal-sh*toids are copying Yuko's amazing work! In my bed, Yuko!"
(In the comments of a Kuroyume video) "Omg, these guys are totally copying Dir En Grey"
"Ah... that chick is so hot. I want her to- wait, its a guy?"
(This may not be exactly n00b Vkei fan, but it definitely is n00b Diru fan since Diru has this new American metalhead fanbase) "Wait, this can't be Dir En Grey! They look like f*gs and are playing pseudo-Metal!"

Ironically though, I've seen a lot of experienced fans say these. Welp, that's enough triggering the community for today

But, just in case any of you are also level 50 Turbo Nerds I thought I should post it here. I hope this is a sensible place to put it??

It would be cool if people didn't embed too many videos here, as not everyonehas decent computers. Some might struggle with all the videos. Use spoilers, or just link to a song like I did.

    More japanese metal goodies:

    Gallhammer
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hs3fl_vrgY8

Gallhammer was formed by three chicks in 2003, none who knew how to play the instruments they'd end up playing in the band. It didn't take long before the band had gained a cult following both because of them being three japanese girls, but also because of their original approach to metal. The band sounds like a mix of Hellhammer and early Amebix with a strong Darkthrone influence to it. Crusty black/doom metal. Their two first albums and the compilation are top notch. They were a brilliant live band as well.

    Zadkiel
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rrn1zyGKAGE

Raw black/speed metal in the vein of early Venom with lots of Motorhead thrown in. Both the EP and single are great releases.

    Bellzlleb
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0uJkyVTFLE

Wicked and theatrical heavy/doom and black/speed metal. I can't really think of many bands similar to this, but the dark, occult feeling of their first albums always gave me an early Sigh, Mystifier, Root and Rotting Christ-vibe despite not sounding anything like any of those.

    Rosenfeld
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CY_D6IICbNg

One of the early, japanese visual thrash metal bands with a nazi image. Really cool band with some great demos and a masterpiece of an album in the discography.

    Rommel
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFuqAdriwck

Another early visual speed/thrash metal band with a nazi iamge. It's not quite Rosenfeld, but it's more than enjoyable in my ears. I really dig this band.

    Mein Kampf
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zfhXou5CyCQ

The names says it all doesn't it? Less thrashier than the others, but this band was truly great. Traditional speed metal with a nazi image. Speeder is a speed emtal masterpiece.

    Harkenkreuz
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APCpa_cBV-0

You guessed it. Another visual nazi thrash metal band. They only have one demo and a split release to their name, bu the demo is really cool.

    Sabbrabells
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Tm6mnzFjEk

Traditional heavy metal with an occult feeling similar to early Mercyful Fate, King Diamond, Hell and Angel Witch. A truly great band!

    White Hell
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JP-HsISFAKg

Early black/speed metal. Released one single, and I dig it.

    Crowley
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qQXkr9EH0E

Dark, occult heavy/speed metal fron Japan. One of my all-time favourite heavy metal acts. Both the EP and full lenghts are masterpieces. The band disbanded in the late 80's, but reformed in 2014. I don't have any great expectations, but looking forward to something new if they plan to release something.

    Flower Travellin' Band
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9FW0zMpCrI

Classic psychedelic rock/heavy metal with a strong doom metal-vibe to it. Clearly influenced by the likes of Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and so on. Satori, which is their masterpiece, is really heavy for an early 70's release. 71 actually. You'll never hear anything like the masterpiece that is Satori.

    Jurassic Jade
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=koFiYJ5xqHQ

Raw, female-fronted thrash metal. The classic album Gore is poorly produced, but it's a god damn great album. I'm not familiar with the band outside of Gore, but I know for a fact that Gore is totally worth checking out for thrash metal fans.

    Arkha Sva
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vtVSjAX3JI

Black metal with a strong 90's french vibe to it. Obviously inspired by the french cult scene (Vlad Tepes, Belketre, Mutiilation). Great music and even greater vocals. Lots of amazing falsetto going on here and there.

    Avsolutized...
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LV7Eh5pkdiA
Black metal band connected to Arkha Sva, but unlike Arkha Sva who's influenced by the french scene, this band is influenced by the swedish scene, especially Setherial whom they also cover.

    Ningen-Isu
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLoUY1kA4ZY

These guys formed in 87 and have released 18 full lenghts, some EPs and singles since then. They started out as a progressive rock band more inspired by Rush, Led Zepelin and Deep Purle, but over the years they've moved more towards a doom/heavy metal sound more similar to Black Sabbath but without leaving the progressive rock of Rhsh behind.

    Casbah
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OncwKmzfwTI

Early thrash metal with a strong death metal-vibe to it. Their early singles and demos are great.

    Terror Squad
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ipadglqnrAc

The debut is a crazy punky thrash metal album, while the second is more progressive. This band is amazing, and sadly overlooked. You won't hear anything like this band ever.

    Aion
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8dRdtjP8bI

Visual thrash metal, but this time without the nazi iamge (as far as I know). Released a couple of great thrash metal albums before moving into more power metal influenced territory. Released some good power/thrash metal albums before they started to suck as well. By the mid 90's they'd gone from awesome to embarrassing and we do not talk about later Aion.

    Gonin-Ish
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWqnofhRSLo

These guys started off as an Anekdoten cover band but only used a few years before evolving into something very unique and original. Extreme progressive metal. All their releases features Junichi Harashima of Sigh behind the drum kit too. Great, underrated drummer.

    Hellchild
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CYy5AXfW1Oo

Old school death metal with a stong swedish vibe to it. Junichi Harashima played on a few albums for these guys as well.

    Multiplex
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WwCMW1kglvc

Death/grind with a strong Carbonized and Abhorrence feeling to it. Released one album and some EPs and shit and the album is very good.

    Satanic Hellslaughter
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYQdp0gJ0M4

Released one demo and two splits, one of them together with Multiplex and another band. Fairly standard, but great, brutal death metal. The Thrashing Deathpower split with fellow countrymen Multiplex and Gibbed is truly great. All bands deliver music of high quality.

Yes, this is very early SAKRUN. According to the description it's their initial line-up.
I think the uploader of the video is actually their first bassist SHINGO.

Well, the video title says ディパーチャ so I'd say it's the songtitle?
They had a demotape in the early days called 媚薬. I don't know the tracklist but maybe that song is on it as well.

Is this really Sakrun? Sounds to me like solid vk speed metal. Is this their early song? Was it recorded on a demo?
Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance. =D
