Aside from the popular language barrier, it's hard to introduce "normies" to visual kei because of... visual kei. Having to explain visual kei to someone who is completely shocked and put off by it is a chore to me. I haven't really been in that position as an adult, but when I was in school, I definitely was. At least for me, it usually does come along with a lot of people pulling their eyes slanted and mocking the language, or jokes like "So I guess you like small penises????". It's usually straight men who get really uncomfortable after seeing what a visual kei band looks like and fire back with stuff like that, so I guess I have seen some of the ugly racism that other members in this thread have been lucky enough to avoid. 

from my experiences, it seems like kind of a racial bias thing tbh. i've shown friends who normally listen to western metal etc. Japanese metal/deathcore/VK, and they didn't mind it (possibly even liked it) before i told them it was Japanese or the band was from Japan, but they did give me some weird looks and call me a weeb after i told them lmfao. either way, in those genres, you can't understand the lyrics because of the screaming no matter the language the band is singing in, so that's why from my experiences there has been judgement based on the races.

Definitely the language barrier. Ironically, I listen to J-Rock BECAUSE I don't understand it. There's been many a time when a musically great song performed in English has been ruined for me by lame lyrics. I never get that problem with J-Rock; I can focus on the music itself and appreciate the song as a whole.

I really hope Satoshi is brought back into D.I.D. - I love his style of playing and really hope D.I.D could get back on track to be consistent (but they always seem to be on shaky ground).  Nonetheless, while I was not into the demos that much, it is always unfortunate to hear of a group of beloved veteran musicians in the scene calling it quits.

So it's decided Satoshi come back to D.I.D [3]

this is the band i was talking about in my status update!
although i gotta say before i read that fact about them on twitter i was more like: wohoo all mysterious again huh?? cuz we've seen it so often, by now it gets kinda boring to see bandguys in black capes until they reveal more...
but according to their twitter they claim to be a Death/Grind band and therefore i srsly can't wait to hear how they sound!!
 

This same reasoning is present in the black metal scene - "they played hardcore in their previous band, how dare they!" "they look like hipsters, this isn't true black metal!" 
Their previous band is in the past - they reformed under a different name, they aren't All Shall Die anymore, heck, they're not even playing the same genre anymore!  I don't think it's fair to write them off because of their past as non-VK musicians.
Also, care to explain what are "VK ideals"? Releasing 20 versions of the same single?
