    Hello fellow visual kei miscreants.

Someone linked me to this site a couple years ago; been meaning to stop lurking and join, but you know how it goes.

Been a visual kei fan since summer 2000. It's Malice Mizer's fault. They did this to me.

But I'm not a totally elitist old school VK snob; I still listen to fucking Baroque and Kisaki Project. Proudly.

Other stuff: I'm in and out of goth bands on a regular basis; I spent my late teens and early twenties working as a musician fulltime, and then went back to school when I got tired of babysitting adults/living in a van. desparejo86 reacted to Keiyuu in KISAKI conspiracy? Strange things I noticed related to Kisaki's old bands Levia and LAYBIAL
I noticed some very strange things about Kisaki's bands Levia and LAYBIAL, which were around in 1993 and 1994. For example, this is the tracklisting of the MISS tape by LAYBIAL.

    01. Dejavu
    02. MISS
    03. virginig Plesures
    04. Refuse
    05. MOTHER
    06. One More Love

    Official source: http://under-ground-music.com/kisakihppart/english/DiscShosai.php?shohinNo=000009

Also in the mid-90s there was a band called VICE∞RISK. They released the tape Mother and this is the tracklist:

    01. Virgining Plesures
    02. Refuse
    03. Mother
    04. One More Love

I saw the lyrics sheet with my own eyes, so I can confirm that it's real.

Now let's look at Levia's KELOID tape:

    01. KELOID
    02. PRAY

    Official source: http://under-ground-music.com/kisakihppart/english/DiscShosai.php?shohinNo=000007

Around the same time there was a band called Nude of J. Their 傷痕 demo looks like this:

    01. KELOID
    02. 恋に焦がれ愛に埋もれ
    03. PRAY

I also saw a sheet of this tape, the tracklist is legit.
I can upload pics of the VICE∞RISK and Nude of J tracklists, if you guys want to see a proof.

So.. Can anyone explain this? For me, it doesn't make sense at all.
VICE∞RISK and Nude of J seem to be COMPLETELY unrelated to Kisaki or his bands. I even compared the member names, because sometimes members went into different bands and rerecorded songs they've written for another band, but there's not a single similar name anywhere.
Was Kisaki making things up when he decided to release information about this old bands and just took random songtitles of obscure bands from that time? O:
Or did the bands just covered each other, which is highly unlikely...

I know there's a KISAKI history book out there. Maybe someone here owns it, so we could compare the titles? But I'm 99% sure that it will contain the same information as on that UCP site.

The thing is that while visual is a niche genre, there's a nice little market for it that's existed for decades. And over time, an efficient system has developed for bringing baby bands along to being serious bands and delivering their product into the hands of those who crave it.
And it didn't happen by accident, the forces of supply and demand created this system; the fact that it's still in place is a testament to it's success and that bands still feel it's the best route to go or else they would be looking to do it another way.
Again, think about what going DIY entails: you have to get the money together for recording, you have to design the merch, you have to get the money together for printing merch, you have to make a website, you have to create and maintain social media accounts, you have to look into copy writing and publishing your music, you have to find or design album art, you have to correspond with venues, pay someone to distribute the CDs you just paid to have made, etc etc etc etc. At the very least you're going to have to hire a booking agent and manager, and if you don't want to do all of the above stuff yourself, you're going to have to pay someone to do it.
So you're going to have to put up loads and loads of money. And if you aren't wealthy, you're going to have to work all the time to pay for this stuff. When are you going to have time to write? Or practice?
In a fiercely competitive scene where lots of bands are offering the "same" product (visual music), and the music DOES matter, the band that has an label doing all the legwork for them (and has an optimized system for doing all this efficiently/low cost) while they just write music, practice, and chat with fans online all day is going to have a MASSIVE MASSIVE advantage over bands that don't.
So, despite some horror stories you hear, VK bands still think the "traditional" route to success is the best way to go at the moment.

As a small update: they are half-active atm so that might explain it (having this "DEATH MASK" moniker once again and performing older songs once in a while, god knows how long it will last)

Regarding me and my reasons for necroing: the fact that I converted our fellow Stallion into this Kuroyume fandom made me realize the beauty behind Romance of Scarlet. Holy motherheck, I feel so bad for my earlier me and my questionable dislike towards that album, so many Shin gems...christ.

    Hello fellow visual kei miscreants.

Someone linked me to this site a couple years ago; been meaning to stop lurking and join, but you know how it goes.

Been a visual kei fan since summer 2000. It's Malice Mizer's fault. They did this to me.

Bands I lurve and continue to fangirl for despite being a grown man: Luna Sea (obv), Zi Kill, Die in Cries, Kagerou, Creature Creature, Kuroyume, Aliene Mariage, Baiser.... all that kinda stuff.

I listen to a lot of hairmetal, 90s goth rock, and 80s RnB. I have a dog, but she doesn't really care for visual kei.

I've made every single girlfriend I've ever had watch MM's Bara No Konrei movie with me. Trial by fire. You marry me, you marry into this Visual Kei fandom life.

Looking forward to getting to know you weirdos.
