  1. I don't know if any of you were around degbox in the months leading up to DSS's release, but does anyone recall those bizarre vocal covers of Vinushka and Different Sense youtube videos that got thrown around?

  2. I remember the fan rivalry all over the internet around ten years ago and then nothing. People going out of their way to tell you not to listen to the Gazette in Deg circles and whatnot. Funny stuff. This was around the time when Kyo's live performances mostly consisted of throwing shit, wearing a bucket, and bleeding, and boy did Deg fans think they were so HARDCORE because their favorite band featured an absolute madman. I'm not surprised that Gazette fans felt they were being bullied by those dinguses.

There's always been elitism with vk fans around the internet, but I guess the worst of it gravitates toward the deep circle of hell that is Youtube comments.

  3. That's a really good intro tune. Reminds me of Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne.

Was this show in the middle of one of their endless tours? I can't think of any other reason Kyo would sound so hoarse at the opening of a set. Dude needs some elm tea.

  4. When I was first getting into Dir en grey (and Mucc too for that matter), something that really appealed to me was that they don't stick to a single or genre in any of their works. Sure, each album tends to have its own tone but the tracks themselves are by no means homogenized.

If you're trying to tag and organize your music library, sure it sucks. But I'd rather not be able to categorize them so easily.

  5. This one’s going to take a while to grow on me, if ever. Even worse, I doubt their material on this album will have a matching sound to the cover.

    I hope they surprise me.

  6. Midwife is alright but I’m not into the guitar tones in the intro. Hageshisa to had the best mix of any of their songs on the single version.

Marrow as a whole is very fond to me but that might be nostalgia getting the best of me. I haven’t listened much recently, but I’ve always liked the rough around the edges and the audible frustration.

Dozing Green I think will always be my favorite song of theirs and I like any song that shares its songwriting “DNA”.

The cool thing to me about Arche is that Un deux and Beyond a Vacant Image can both either be opener or closer and feel right. I personally like Beyond a Vacant Image at the end. It’s so satisfying.

  7. To hell with Sustain the Untruth and it’s IKITSUUUITA and stupid ape man. They need to stop forcing their basic ass recent singles as encore “staples”. Oh and fuck you too Obscure 2011.

I always rearrange the track listings on my Deg albums and swap in the single mixes. Tweak Arche a bit and it actually has somewhat of a flow.

Yep, it's a heartfelt Kyo ballad alright.

Sounds cool though. I hope the studio version can really bring out the dynamics of the song.

    Tousei and Kaishun?

While those are my favorite tracks from Arche, they don't hit me with the same POIGNANCY.

I hope I like Ranunculus too, Seelentau.

  10. Love the disco ball. Zakuro's one of my favorite lives of theirs.

Where are the tear-your-heart-out emotional ballads in the new material, DEG?

  11. @Rosner back in April there was a Yahoo.jp article that's since been taken down, but here's a snippet:

    Quote

For their 25th release, Ningen Wo Kaburu, Dir en grey has hired Brian Gardner from the United States of America, who was the mastering engineer of such big artists as Madonna, Eminem, Katy Perry, Linkin Park and Michael Jackson.

In addition to Brian, they have also enlisted the British engineer Dan Lancaster, who has previously worked on the rock band BMTH. He emphasises to make songs with a worldwide popularity.

  12. Oh good they played the proper version of McCobb.

Because I can't forgive Kaoru for the blue ball guitar solo in the remake.
