1. 1. brq (2001-2004)

but i'll accept anything up to mellow hollow. old brq was pretty darn cool--i mean tokyo stripper, anakuro film and m to tsumiki asobi. pretty soon after kei became the main composer the style of course shifted considerably but it was still good. idk many vk bands that sound much like old brq and i always loved their old style. their comeback started off rather successfully but since then the quality has noteably dropped, two members are missing, and anything that made ryo's voice unique and stand out has been destroyed (noteably it seems to have consciously been done by him--he apparently believes his voice has improved so much and talked a lot about it at a live my friend went to last year...) and is kind of nasaly and bland now imo. but the old stuff was awesome.

    2. kannivalism

    3.Souiumono
they've a mixed bag when it comes to their music. i know a lot of people who are put off by their looks but they've got some solid songs in my opinion (and not so solid ones lol but I like them anyway). this is the band i listen to the most often these days, especially since brq went downhill. but the real magic is watching/hearing them live. i think it would be really hard to dismiss them if you went to a show..
    4. Hana Shounen Baddies
    5. RUVISH
Unfortunately they seem to be under the radar. I found them at a live I was going to and was hooked by the second time I saw them... It's unfortunate to see Ruka going (he brought a lot charisma-wise to lives) and I'm interested to see how they recuperate from him leaving.
    6. cali gari
    7. Sel'm
I have only listened to Ryuga as the vocalist and nothing before that.
    8. rice
admittedly a little one note--but at least it's a very nice note.
    9. Yeti
    10. Serial Number
They were one of my first VK bands and I'm sentimental. Also, I like fun songs.

    honorable mentions:
Shounenki (too new to my list)
Minus Jin-Say Orchestra (too new to my list)
cocklobin (their spark is gone and their energy deflated--it only has come back a bit after they announced their breakup)
    GIGAMOUS (too new)
ensoku (something has to be said for Ensoku live; Buu is one hell of a frontman)

My list of top ten favorite VK bands to see live would be different (mostly the order would be different and at least one of the honorable mentions would be on the list), though...

  2. Well it's generally a case of:

    1) no more money

    2) no more ideas; euphemistically, the band "grew out of it"

Usually it's some combination of 1+2.

I doubt any band that takes their music and fans seriously will disband simply over a disagreement with their label.

agreed. though the label thing is a little iffy because the label might be the reason why they are getting so little money (too little to live on, etc and the label might own the rights to the band name)....

    some other reasons

    1. it's a really tough schedule.
    2. actually, it's a really tough scene in japan. music in japan is dominated by idol groups.
    3. if we're talking visual kei, then it could also be because they don't want to do VK anymore (I know of a couple metal bands who have guys who used to do visual kei...).

this can also be personal reasons for a member leaving the band, naturally.

  3. No problem! Glad you enjoyed them.
Oh my god, it was hilarious to begin with that he even asked for the number..and then when he tweeted that he didn't get it, it just got better.

I definitely recommend for anyone who gets a chance to see them, to do it. I would really like to see them in America; it'd be nice to see them on my turf for once. I really hope they'll be able to go abroad--I'm sure they're interested.

Yeah, Nuppe posted it on his blog first while SACCI was on ViSULOG TV so I saw it there then it updated on the OHP a few mins later... But....yeaaaah, I'm not big on the new look. Anyway, I hope they don't actually wear the headdress things at the lives, but who knows. Then again, because the title is "ragnarok" a friend and I were hoping for vikings, which would have been pretty awesome.

★In stores for ragnarok have been announced here. Exact details on the in stores themselves will be coming later.

    3/5(水) 18:00~ little HEARTS.新宿店 (Shinjuku shop)
3/6(木) 18:00~ ピュアサウンド 西新宿店 (Pure Sound, West Shinjuku Shop)
    3/8(土) 11:00~ fiveStars (it's in Nagoya)
    3/8(土) 18:00~ ピュアサウンドアメリカ村店 (Pure Sound, America-mura Osaka)
    3/15(土) 18:00~ 自主盤倶楽部 (Jishubanclub, it's in Shinjuku)
    3/29(土) 19:00~ 池袋Brand X (Brand X, Ikebukuro)

I've got plans for both the in stores on the 8th.

In fact, I'm going to be buying multiple copies (2~4) of the CD for the in stores and if anyone is interested in getting Ragnarok (+ cheki if they so desire) and not paying shipping look at this post on fuckyeahsouiumono for more details.

I am buying type A and B for myself of course, one of the types for a friend, and someone already claimed one of the copies. But I wouldn't mind buying up to two more copies for in store privileges. If you are interested and have no tumblr, of course, you can just contact me here through direct message :)

★They also announced that they will be part of EDGE's Circuit '14-the four seasons- tour (EDGE Circuit '14-春夏秋冬)

    5月10日(土)仙台Hook (Sendai)
    5月11日(日)新潟GOLDENPIGS (BLACK STAGE) (Niigata)
    5月16日(金)名古屋ell.FITS ALL (Nagoya)
    5月17日(土)大阪FANJ twice (Osaka)
    5月25日(日)EDGE Ikebukuro

Since it's the day before my birthday and in Osaka I'm going to the May 17th live.

Also SACCI was ranking his five favorite songs on his blog
    1. 事後の翼 (song off of tarantula)
    2. prologue (new song)
    3. 大嫌いなこの星に生まれて (title track of daikiraina)
    4. エンブレム (new song; "emblem" in katakana)
    5. 「H」 (new song)

so now we know three of the five new song's titles....

  4. @stylelover: Thank you :) I actually have seen that before but from what I recall, if I'm not mistaken, you need to register as a member with a credit card (one time fee+monthly fee, I assume you can cancel your membership) at genka market which is why I haven't ordered from there. Also, I don't know if this is the case for them but a lot of Japanese stores only accept Japanese credit and I don't have a Japanese credit card. But thank you !

@fitear1590 here's the links to the live reports + in stores. A couple in stores were only getting photographs. I threw in when I met them distributing flyers too. Sorry if there are any typos. And of course these are all casual (and a bit fangirly at times) reports. Enjoy?!

I'll be seeing them March 9th and March 30th as well :) And, if all works out, on the oneman on August 24th.
Hopefully I'll make it to an in store for the new album too~

  5. I definitely like their heavier songs the most :D i think a lot of people find them more enjoyable live as well!

I too am wondering if they're rerecord--i assume they did rerecord but I'm not entirely sure and given vk anything is possible. the only real details i saw were on the OHP (besides them saying things like "recording today" on twitter).

as for my live reports they are on my tumblr and I'll have to provide a link later! i write something about every live i go to (not just souiumono) but it's more for my benefit as a memory of that time, but i make them public in case people are interested(^-^*) i'm mobile right now so i cant grab links easily at the moment. I'll do it later :)

  6. haha hope u can go to each instore ordering just one type

I assume I will be able to go to an Osaka in store at least, if they do it the weekend of the oneman (which would be smart). I'm also hoping for an in store at the beginning of April in Tokyo since a friend and I want to go together. I'll probably buy multiples for in store privileges (more pictures with them etc). But nothing close to the amount the jouren buy, I can't afford it.

I'll definitely update on how the in stores (if I can go) and the lives are though. For now, I just have to impatiently wait until then..

  7. I usually buy it on CDJapan, but yeah, i gonna move this month and i have to buy UNiTE CD's too so i dont think i gonna get it soon. I wish Sacci could send it me as a gift like he did with their first single bwahahaha

    ah yeah I understand that.

well if you're waiting I assume at least tarantula and kumorizora will be on the album when it comes out. Speaking of, I am getting impatient waiting to find out about the in store schedule for March...

  8. LMFAO HAHAHAHAHAHAHA He used to watch some of my broadcasts and comment stuff like "kawaiiiiii" a lot of times (i'm a guy), that was weird hahaha

Oh, damn god, i wanna listen it :( i was looking for it here but seems like no one uploaded

lololol sounds like something SACCI would do. Probably because you're a guy he'll be less likely to distance himself from you (with girl fans of course more..distance). I would freaking love to see his reaction to you at an in store hahaha.

Brand X and Closet Child offer international shipping. Though I'm bet it's also probably on CDJapan? I prefer satsujinki to tarantula and daikiraina but I do like them both as well...

  9. Welcome here.

After reading your introduction, i think i'm going to send you a private message soon.

Sounds good I'll be waiting for the PM :) (I've been chatting in the Souiumono thread, I know you're a fan of nono)

    Hello, and welcome here~ :3

Hana Shounen Baddies is the best ever. I love them tons.

    Hello!

Man, I love baddies so much! They're reaaally nice guys (I joke that Hiroshi is my biggest fan because he is always so excited to see me).

And they're ridiculously fun live. During Banana they throw stuffed bananas with the crowd (it's such a phenomenon that other members of other bands often run in during that song either on stage or in the crowd to join in).

  10. hahaha will do ! anything in particular you want to hear about?

Oh yeah, it's not that I don't like SACCI. I mean he has grown to be my least favorite but I love every member of the band so it's not saying much? Anyway, I just can't figure SACCI out he is one big question mark for me. (One time during a picture that my friend was getting with the band he was holding something up and because it was a cheki we can't see very clearly what it is so we were like "is that a cell phone? doesn't he have an iphone? why would he have two cell phones? whose cell phone did he steal???" but it turned out he was holding up some random band's free ticket to a live during the picture for some reason hahaha.. WHY?!)

idk, I bought it (...3 times) so I don't go looking for downloads. タランチュラ has a kind of jazzy feel imo (and was composed by nuppe), 事後の翼 is a 5 minute long slow song (WHYYYYYY), and 曇り空にて晴天の夢を見る is awesome (so heavy I imagine i will be headbanging until my neck snaps when they play it) also it's half in English I WANT TO DESTROOOOOY I WANT TO DESTROOOOOOOOOOOOY.

  11. Didn't Sacci try to talk you in english too? He was all like "Hey Ritsu! I went to USA once! I still have my passport!!!" and tried to write some stuff in english haha

He was also planning to come to Brazilian World Cup and asked if him and Nuppe could stay at my place LOL then wen i talked to Nuppe he was like "CAN WE SERIOUSLY STAY AT YOUR PLACE?IS IT BIG ENOUGH FOR US" BWAHAHHA They're so nice guys.

I met him on pigg once and he wrote only English.

pffffffft wow. I think they're perhaps a bit too big as a band to be doing those sorts of things now, though.

Anyway, SACCI is so weird. His social interactions are so off. And actually it's pretty widely known that if he doesn't recognize your face, he doesn't talk to you much at in stores etc. He talks to me some but not much. I mean he definitely recognizes me--they all do. Even freaking Kogoe.

    I have a few theories:

    1. nono is always the first one to talk. the second he sees me he's shouting HELLOOOOOOOOO at me and I have a feeling maybe SACCI is perhaps worried about actually speaking in front of a foreigner (unlike nono)

    2. I'm a nuppe fan. He has no chance to win me over.

    3. he's weird.

One time I was at an in store and he had this silver mask on with ear holes cut out and a mouth hole cut out and he was playing with the ear hole while asking "DO YOU UNDERSTAND? DO YOU UNDERSTAND?!?!" and I was just thinking like what? japanese? (Bucky had asked me two seconds earlier if I spoke Japanese). but then he asked me if I understood the character and I was like NOPE and then staff made me continue on down the line.

The last in store I went to was a cheki-kai and of course nono does the HELLOOOO THANK YOUUUUU and everyone followed suit (it kind of sucks that I end up not talking to them properly because of nono's sudden english but it's also kind of funny). Then I got to SACCI who was playing ukelele. And I almost thought he wasn't going to stop playing ukelele because he just...kept playing. But then he stopped, shook my hand and said hello thank you. Then between the 2nd and 3rd picture while nuppe was grabbing my legs and practically pulling me into his lap, SACCI dances up front while playing the ukelele. I am pretty sure he was trying to get in front with us but everyone else started yelling at him to get in the back--in the picture he's still laughing at himself. Normally he does a pretty boring face in pictures but I like that one a lot.

One time he pretended like he was going to punch my friend. Then did the same to me. Like I said: weird.

  12. Yep, first oneman i guess!

i TOTALLY understand what you say! i also think his キャラ is so forced and he fails so hard on trying to be kawaii desu nya~~~zura☆ haha

But i know he is a nice person and i like that he is on the band :P

oh my god all the nyas and zuras etc are the reason why I don't read anything he tweets/blogs. I know someone who tells me it's good practice because he's easy to understand (easier than say...nuppe. but I actually have effectively been brainwashed and understand nuppe now) but I just can't get through it orz

BUT yes nono's a nice guy and way more chill when you're just talking to him. Well, when he's not shouting the bit of English he knows at you (apparently he used to be better at English back in the DWP days). I've come to appreciate him in the band and can't imagine Souiumono without him now...

  13. I wanted to go to Izumo taisha but it was on the other side of Shimane and I couldn't fit the detour into my schedule. That trip happened during the winter break (iirc) and I had only 1-2 weeks to spare, so unfortunately that wasn't possible in the end. ;_;

And, I totally know what you mean by "Shimane's versions of cities", lol :P I studied at Kyoto University, and while Kyoto is nowhere as secluded as Shimane or some other places I've been to (e.g. the villages in Gifu where I could be cycling for 2 hours and not see a single soul), the downtown area totally pales in comparison to the big metropolitan centers like Tokyo or Osaka. A lot of vk bands skip Kyoto when they tour Kansai too, with most fans preferring to go down to Osaka for lives. I remember there was once I went for a Nightmare concert in Kyoto and there was a kabuki play or something in the adjacent concert hall (which was 4-5x bigger). While we were queuing to enter, streams of old people in their classy outfits strolled by and stared at all of us curiously XD

Overall, though, I think I still prefer to live in a quiet place, as long as I can still use Amazon etc. lol. From experience, people in the smaller cities/towns are generally "nicer" (Kyoto people, for instance, are impossibly patient). This is a huge generalization of course. ^^

Really? I equate Izumo and Matsue to being really close to each other, haha!! But I guess that just goes to show you how spread out Shimane is.. I guess it depends where you were in Matsue.

But I've definitely noticed that bands skip Kyoto a lot! I've never been to Kyoto for a live to this day (just Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, Okayama and Hiroshima).

Well... you can definitely use amazon in my town. But it's really hard to compare my town to Kyoto. I can't even imagine calling Kyoto quiet considering where I live. Maybe quieter than Osaka and Tokyo, but that's a given. Anyway, I may be slightly bitter about how little my town has to offer (I love my job and the children I teach and that's why I'm still here since I know people are wondering). But if you stay in my town for an extended period of time, it's quite obvious why I've made VK my hobby--I get to escape my town to go to actual cities for it.

  14. @ricchubunny

oh gosh people actually read my live reports? I should probably try a little harder on them... I assume either first oneman or brand new wave report?

Actually here's what i had written about nono before I decided my post was too long yesterday(/early this morning when I was unable to sleep):

"Now for nono.. hmm.. well, to be honest when he first joined the band I didn't particularly like him and he kind of grated on my nerves. But I realized it's his stage persona that is the problem. I much prefer nono out of makeup, in his regular clothes, talking to me one on one. He's much more natural and less forced than he is on stage, in his writing on twitter or blogs, etc. He loooves English and always greets me with "HELLOOOOOOO THANK YOU!" even though he knows I can speak Japanese so I thought it was his standard foreigner greeting, but every other foreigner I've talked to except one says he just talks to them in Japanese. Last time I saw him he was distributing flyers and the other people around us were probably wondering why we were acting like school girls who hadn't seen each other in 50 years (so much high fiving/fist bumping/awkwardly standing too close to each other etc). We were so happy to see each other he forgot to give me a flyer haha...ha (but I had gotten one from Kamui a minute before so it was no biggie). I told nono I couldn't go to the 4th oneman and his response was "why?!" so I explained I was going to America for Christmas time and he suggested that I come back for the oneman then go back home, hah. I also told him I'd go to the 3rd oneman tour if I could and his response was "not if! you will go!" That's nono for you. And all in all, I've grown to really like nono. I just much prefer him off stage."

  15. @ricchubunny

aahah I see my reputation precedes me.

The funny thing is how much I love nono now. Poor nono, I'm sorry about the old days..
Let's just say it took a looong time to warm up to him.

The thing is nono's stage personality seems rather forced, unnatural and like he's trying too hard to keep up with the fans. I know some girls who agree with me (foreign fans, I've never explained it to Japanese fans). Honestly, I still don't really like his stage persona. But like I said, I love him now after having met him and he is the one I talk to the most..

I've always loved nono fans though. They're really nice and even have a reputation for it. And when I made jokes like "nono is no! no!" they always just think it's funny and have never gotten mad at me for it.

  16.

Hey there, welcome to MH! :D enjoy your time here :3

    thank you!

    Welcome on MH.

    Cocklobin farewell gig..Yay! :wan-31:

I'm not sure if it's a yay but definitely something I couldn't miss :( they're really good live but I'm not surprised. Their energy has fizzled out at lives...

Welcome to the forum! We're glad to have you here! Feel free to ask anyone with a red or blue name if you have any questions. Also, since you are part of the scene, any information that you have to share would be greatly appreciated!

Also glad to that you are interested in Sel'm, they are easily one of my favorite VK bands.

Thanks! Yes I am glad to share any information as an active bangya in the scene :)

I love Sel'm. The first time I saw them I can't remember a single thing about the performance somehow. I just remember that I was really annoyed with their fans.. But the second time I saw them I was in the 2nd row and that is when I became interested in them. My body hurt for 3 days after because of Sel'm!

Welcome to the forums! I've been to Matsue (in Shimane) before and I really like the laid-back feel of the place. I'm totally *not* a "city" person at all haha.

Thanks! Wow that's impressive that you've been to Shimane! Did you take a trip to Izumo for the grand shrine at all or was it just Matsue? Unfortunately Matsue is about 2 hours away from where I live... I'd probably be more likely to stay longer if I lived in a city in Shimane (well, Shimane's versions of cities). As it is though I live in a small town in the mountains. You may not be a city person but I'd be interested to see if you'd still enjoy my town if you had to stay here for a bit hahaha... Our big gossip lately is that a drug store opened up right next to the old drug store.

  17. Ah I see.

And any plans for today? since it's already 5:30 in the morning in Japan :P

You're telling me, man (didn't eat much + caffeine affecting me more than usual resulted in not being able to sleep, it seems). So, I am pretty sure my plans are sleeping in hah..

My next live is on the 21st--cocklobin's last live. Then 22nd I'm going to see Sel'm. March and the first week in April will be crazy though :)

And with that I am going to sleep since it is 5:30AM. I'll reply to anyone else at... some point(^-^* )

  18. Welcome to this board!!!

Did you ever see RICE live? I really love them ^^

    Thanks!

I've yet to see rice live! I really like them too :) I'd like to go once, but I have a feeling I might find them a bit lackluster live like I do Yeti. I prefer lives with headbanging and moshing or at the very least lots of silly furitsuke. Since they are no longer on hiatus it's possible that I'll see them sometime though~

  19. Welcome on the forum anakuro!

Nice to meet you! :) You're so lucky to be able to see many VK live performances~ :3

I like Shounenki too! Great band!

Anyways, I hope you'll have a good time here and join us sometime in the MH chat! :lolita_cheerful:

    Hello!

Yeah, I'm definitely fortunate in having been able to get to Japan and go to so many lives! But I worked hard to get here :D

Ahh, shounenki hahaa.. They're nice guys and wiling to do what I call "the gaijin challenge" (approach and talk to foreigners). But sometimes I wonder about them. One time Kou gave me a flyer a 2nd time by accident..and then almost did it again a 3rd time. pfft. I'll be seeing them for the first time in March though, which is exciting considering how many times I've gotten flyers from them...

    Thank you!

    Nice to meet you.

How come you are living in Japan, and can you tell us more about your prefecture?

I am living in Shimane and am your typical English teacher :)

  20. Hi there, I'm an American living in a prefecture so mysterious even many Japanese people don't know where it is located. I go to visual kei lives as often as possible (to the point where I call it my hobby) but with budget and time being an issue I'm a "Saturday only bangya" and even then I normally only get one live in a month unless it's spring/summer/winter break. That being said, last year I managed to go to 33 events whether they were lives or in store events. This year I already somehow have 17~18 planned through May.

Considering this, I have a ridiculous stack of CDs, cheki and flyers in my apartment...

I've listened to visual kei bands since about 2007/2008. I often cite baroque as my first band but before them I did listen to POLYSICS (do you even classify them as VK? I never see them playing at VK lives actually... but they certainly do have visual elements..). Now I don't listen to either too much.

The two main bands I follow in Japan are Souiumono and Hana Shounen Baddies.

I also follow RUVISH to a lesser extent. I'm a big fan of Yeti but I kind of find them lackluster live (sorry!!) so I don't go see them as often as I could...

A few other bands I'm interested in: serial number, GIGAMOUS, rice, cocklobin, Sel'm, THE BEETHOVEN, minus jin-say orchestra, shounenki.

I can speak some Japanese and have met quite a few of the members of bands (Souiumono and baddies the most, then RUVISH and I've gotten a lot of flyers from Shounenki) so I can tell you my impressions of the members as well if you are curious..

Besides VK, I've also dabbled in the indie metal scene a bit.

I'm happy to chat about any of the visual kei bands I like or have seen. I might be a bit too chatty.

Nice to meet you all, I hope we will get along :)

  21. Hi there, this is my first post on MH.. I stumbled upon this thread and since this is my favorite band I thought I'd join the discussion as someone who goes to lives/events semi-regularly. Sorry about the length of the post in advance! I can't sleep so I guess I ended up babbling...

I've been following Souiumono since their blueiumono days but since I started living in Japan in 2012 I only started going to lives after they transitioned into an RPG band (I started with their first oneman). I've got everything in at least one type except Cee (I'm curious Ishiki: where did you find it online?), but I do have the live distribute from their most recent oneman (怨念少女/onnen shoujo).

Also on the topic of their new album: we're only getting 5 new songs. The other 13 are from まだ来ないANGEL, 殺人鬼の棲む街, 大嫌いなこの星に生まれて, and タランチュラ. Limited edition has 5 PVs, each one directed by one member. The regular edition is the one that will have the 5 new songs. (source is their OHP)

As for my experience that I mentioned: all in all I've been to two of their oneman lives, 4.5 event lives (I got reeaaally sick in the middle of Souiumono one time and had to leave) and 4 in store events for them (6 cheki taken with them, two signed CDs). I would have gone to more, but alas I live so far away that I can only go to events on Saturdays, long weekends or during breaks. It's been so long since the last time I've seen them live and it's their first oneman tour that I can't miss it--I'll be going to the Osaka and Tokyo dates. I also plan on going to their oneman in August.

They're one of the best bands I've seen live and I've seen a lot of VK bands live... And NANDAKANDA is their best song live (if you like headbanging..and if you don't it's probably best not to go see them). If they ever stop playing it live I know a lot of people will be pretty upset. They play the music well and SACCI's vocals are great live (even when he's sick it's crazy), and their performance (as in, how they act) is great to watch. Their songs have a lot of moshing and headbanging as well as furitsuke, so it's always very energetic.

As for the RPG games they've released you actually need a Japanese operating system to play it, so I only started playing the first game recently. As expected it's hilarious but I'm quite lazy with it so I've only gotten to the part where Nuppe's been introduced... I wouldn't say it's great but it's worth it for how funny it is. It explains why Nono's sex on the OHP is listed as "secret" too...

I'm going to agree that their music can be hit or miss and I used to wish they would go back to the blue days. I still wish I could have seen them back then, but I've grown to quite love the RPG era. Honestly, some of my favorite songs are recent ones: 残虐マニフェスト, 殺人鬼の棲む街, 魔物大行進 for example are some of my favorites after joining Timely. I also love 毒メスシリンダー and 公開自虐チャンネル the most out of their pre-timely but post blue times. That being said for the songs that I would admit are maybe misses, I still like them generally speaking.

I'll also concede まだ来ないANGEL is probably not the best song ever but it's catchy and I love it. However, live... well, the dance may look simple but I don't know many people who are actually very good at it. But they do the dance on stage so you can copy them. The one time I heard パッパパッパラッタ live they also danced on stage so you could follow along. Actually Souiumono's furitsuke is pretty whacky at times--I know people who are too afraid to go up front because of the furitsuke even though they like Souiumono. I'm not that great at the furitsuke but that doesn't stop me from going up front though... I've even been in saizen (front row) for them a couple times. Even so, like I said, they are great live and really fun. Their MCs are hilarious as well, but if you don't understand Japanese it would unfortunately go over your head...

As for my thoughts on the members, well it's a long post anyway I'll add that later if someone wants to see.
