YuyoDrift got a reaction from doombox in Dance Gavin Dance
These guys need a thread on here!
Dance Gavin Dance is a post-hardcore band based in Sacramento, California, and formed in 2005.
Dance Gavin Dance's music has been described as a blend between emo, post-hardcore, jazz fusion, progressive rock and screamo.
The band has been through 3 vocalists (on/off) and numerous band member changes (on/off as well), and it's been a hectic ride for them the last decade or so.
DGD's music has remained simply fantastic, being one of Rise Records best bands to ever grace their presence.

YuyoDrift got a reaction from zombieparadise in LYNCH-AVANT GARDE [REVIEW]
AVANTGARDE is a tricky one to review lol
Tempos are crazy for the most part, and yet the composition has little changed (from D.A.R.K.), besides the fact that they have combined old styles of play into some of the tracks.
Fine by me haha.
Tracks I enjoyed the most were PLEDGE, UNELMA, PHANTOM, KILLING CULT, PRAYER, and FAREWELL.
Not only were they heavier in guitar play, but drumming is versatile, with constant changes in tempo. It was like listening to a freestyle from these guys; all I could focus on was the music.
As it should be. I don't want my mind to go elsewhere right now.
The one track I LOVED TO DEATH was PHANTOM.
I can't put into words how this track is levels beyond anything on this album (or any ballad this year).
Choosing to slow down a ballad as much as they possibly could, and throw in elements that reminded me of MELANCHOLIC, my favorite track from D.A.R.K. is just goddamn.
Thank god I listened to the Lossless copy of this, as I would have missed the detail in Hazuki's voice, as he struggles against his breath, yet his words come out so smooth. His tone of voice is famous for purposely sounding so mellow and lifeless, yet there's emotion in every word he speaks.
The way the guitar cords drift off into what feels like a cold and eerie void; so far, that you can just picture yourself watching them travel further and further away until they almost disappear from your sight, and then being picked back up by the drums in an instant.
I'm going to sing along to this for a long time.
Overall, I enjoyed listening to AVANTGARDE, tapping my foot numerous times to a # of tracks.
My first listen late at night couldn't have been a better time.
Catchy songs are catchy, I'm sorry haha.
D.A.R.K. blows this album out of the water (my review of it exists), but there really is no competition needed.
I'm enjoying their current music direction, and whether or not their next work will sound completely different is not really something to be concerned about.
These guys love doing what they do, and that makes me happy.

I'm not sure how to explain it but I feel like VK has a problem with choruses. So often I hear songs that sound amazing only to be ruined by a boring chorus that doesn't seem to organically connect with the rest of the song, sounds uncharacteristically happy like an explosion of kittens and rainbows in musical form or is just bland and lacks the kind of punch you would expect from a chorus. Then when it's time to go back to the verses, the transition is all awkward. To me, the verses and bridge are usually more memorable than the choruses and I only seem to have this experience with VK. When I listen to a new song and it's shaping up to be a good one, I always have this concern that they'll go for this type of chorus and ruin everything and more often than not I am right. A good example of this would be SCAPEGOAT - 幼女A~Hide and Seek~ . Their Nemurenai something song is the same. It's frustrating to have everything in a song work except the chorus.

I really want to like Kuroyuri to Kage's チョコレート階段, but that chorus makes me cringe so bad.
I mean, it starts off amazing. Gives me an old school KORN type vibe, and the vocalists soft echoed tone matches.
THEN THE CHORUS KILLS THE ENTIRE BUILDUP. Like wtf man?
Back to the buildup and solo part which again sound amazing, BUT THAT FUCKING CHORUS SCREECHES MY SOUL BRO LIKE OH MY GOD WHY?
Give this track to DEZERT, and let them show you how to make a proper fucking mashup.

And the guy that said "Oh, this won best album!" ....
I would love to see more of their reactions with a wider variety of bands.
