  1. They look alright. Hopefully the music will match up to it too.

    Yay, good to hear.

Arlequin are pretty listenable, I gotta give them that. They sound rather professional and polished even for being a fairly newbie band. With that said, this release isn't anything special. It lacks any kind of 'flavor' for me to associate them with - rather it sounds like some whatever-band who are competent in what they do but no more. Track-1's trying-to-be-heavy parts annoy me but other than that it's a pretty okay song (even if I swear I heard that chorus melody a few times in the past). Track-2 has a nice chunky riff that I could get into but it's way too similar to their previous superior song Zou - I'm afraid it's kinda like how GazettE always has one HEADACHE MAN-like track in their releases after DIM, lolol (hopefully it won't become a pattern here). Otherwise it's decent too and the chorus is a nice redeeming touch. The last track is pretty forgettable albeit well-put-together - this seems to be somewhat of a theme of this band. Not annoying or abrasive but nothing I'd remember for more than the runtime of the song. Compared to the rest of the indies-vk scene and their peers this is pretty cool. In itself, it's just painfully average. | not bad, it's worth at least a listen

Never heard of this band but the YT clips sound unexpectedly impressive. Gonna keep an eye on this one.

    Hmm this might be cool.

Dude, this is just some shitty stream on a website. xD Slipknot's stuff always sounds on-point (for me at least) so I bet they won't disappoint in that regard this time either.

http://www.slipknot1.com/ ayyy new song is out! Pretty bangin' if you ask me. Beginning totally brought back debut album vibes, haha.
  8. As usual, limited edition covers are not bad, regular sucks, lol.

So I finally finished John Dies at the End a week or two ago (all in all not bad but quite unremarkable), and caught up with other material I still had lying around half-read. So in my endeavour I managed to finish both Philip K. Dick's Valis (quite interesting and philosophical) and Bill Bryson's A Short History of Nearly Everything (great collection of neat facts and scientific stuff presented in an excellently readable and often funny way). So now I've started two books. One is William S. Burroughs' Junky, which is pretty okay so far, a loooot more coherent and normal than his usual fare (tho I understand this was his first proper novel anyway). The other one is the rock'n'roll autobiography co-written by Mötley Crüe and Neil Strauss, The Dirt -- immensely funny and obscene stuff, provides a good look into the often depraved world of the famous rock stars.
  10. Interested to hear this first "proper" release~

This... is a lot better than what I expected. Gonna keep my eye on them in the future~ Reminds me a bit of a crossover of heavier Doremidan and old Merry.

Speaking for MEJIBRAY, In my case, I was first interested by their formation because of the ex-VanessA members -- I remembered they used to have some cool songs back in the day before they went to shit. Then the first single of MEJIBRAY was released and I was really impressed especially by the sound quality and kickass guitarplay (coupled with interesting and/or memorable hooks & songs). It was basically a much more mature sound than what I had expected. I followed them from there, and even though some of their latter songs are lacking, they still manage to sprinkle stuff in there to make it worthwhile and catchy. The band members are very distinct in personality and style too, so I think that might be a lasting factor for some too. As for Dir en grey, I guess it's one of those "gateway bands" most listeners get to know while they start out listening to J-rock. So accordingly they get mentioned a lot (and of course were/are influential to the whole scene as well).

^ Good idea! I did something similar in the past on my Tumblr -- well, not watching, just listing "appropriate" movies in October (in a chronological order). There it is: http://johnny37564.tumblr.com/tagged/movies-for-halloween (it's a pretty mainstream/obvious list tho)

Looks like a failed attempt at Dalí-skull homage, lol.

Praise the lard, new Primus album is on its way! Primus & the Chocolate Factory with the Fungi Ensemble will be released on October 21, it will be a sort of tribute to the classic Willy Wonka movie. It was recorded by the "classic lineup" of Claypool, LaLonde and Herb, also featuring the talents of Critters Buggin percussionist Mike Dillon and Frog Brigade cellist Sam Bass. Les has described the material as "like one of the early Peter Gabriel records meets Dark Side of the Moon meets the Residents" and mentioned that Herb used a very unusual percussion setup for the recording instead of a regular drumkit (basically a big pile of stuff to bang on xD). Tracklist: 01. Hello Wonkites 02. Candy Man 03. Cheer Up Charlie 04. Golden Ticket 05. Lermaninoff 06. Pure Imagination 07. Oompa Augustus 08. Semi-Wondrous Boat Ride 09. Oompa Violet 10. I Want It Now 11. Oompa Veruca 12. Wonkmobile 13. Oompa TV 14. Farewell Wonkites Stream "Pure Imagination" here & see the cover art! omg yessss
