Wow, 10 years =O Haven't been here in ages but on this boring saturday night decided to take a look here again xD

it feels like only a few years ago i joined TW after a spamrage on I believe Tonberry back in the days xD, and than all those countless of hours I spend here on the TW/MH forums, the chat, the last.fm boards, everywhere. I have so much fond memories here, and met such awesome people on this forum. Also loved the years I was a member of the team on here.
And I still remember some events like if they happened last week, some bad to some awesome =)

But then again, I came in contact with Japanese music back in 2002 or something, so as that is already 15 years ago, i really don't know what I done the first 5 years... I mentioned Tonberry, I guess Jpopsuki, but it's so long ago by now xD must've been some other boards. But none were like these =).

Zelda has really sunk its teeth in to me, I've been playing it a fair amount recently. This is pretty surprising given that I have never been a Zelda fan. I could go on and on as to why that is, but that is a different topic. But they hype got me and I picked up Breath of the Wild. And man am I glad I did. I still think the combat is a little clunky, but man this world really is magically. I am not sure if I have ever played an open world game that has felt quite as alive of BotW.

I really feel you there. I really did love the game, but like when you really look at what it could have been (or should have been), it makes me a bit sad. That said, I do feel like it renews my hope in FF as a series. I couldn't stand XIII and they rode that in to the ground, so I was kind of thinking that I was going to be done with the series as a whole if FFXV wasn't great.

    ^ THIS.
Before clicking the topic's title I was still unsure of what album could clearly define this, but it became clear once I saw that. I remember how I was crazy about that album when I got here and everyone  else seemed crazy about it too lol. It made me happy. But this was not the only one that reminds me of old TW, I remember how hyped I was about girugamesh's MUSIC too and even how the whole forum went crazy when Dir en grey released OUROBOROS, both were around the same time iirc. I especially remember I could hear Satoshi singing "Playstation NOW!" and "FOR OUROBOROS!" in Asking why... lol. I think that was the time I was most active around here.

Well, I've got a good amount. 16, to be exact.

    Kasutera (カステラ) - "Tori (鳥)" (1990):

The title literally translates to "bird", so there you go, a cover centered on... a bird. And not just any bird, but an emu. Alright..... interesting choice?

STRAWBERRY - coming all the way E.P. (2000)

Okay, I've seen a few hideous drawings as covers, but this takes the cake. The girl literally looks like a sick, teenage Barbara Streisand, with her body looking twisted and contorted like she was fighting off death. It's just... nasty.

Kome Kome CLUB (米米CLUB) - Phi II (1994):

Okay, I see what they're trying to do with the whole Washington, D.C. theme, but it just doesn't work. The coloring of the background and the lack of stripes on the structures they're supposed to represent just makes them look like PEZ dispensers.

    Flipper's Guitar - CAMERA TALK (1990):

"Camera talk"? Well now, it sure as hell covers that theme. You have some old foreign dude on the left, with the floating hands on the main part of the cover representing his hands, I presume? I don't know. It's quite an eyesore though, and the scribbles don't help.

ELECTRIC EEL SHOCK - SLAYER's BAY BLUES (2000):

The guys in ELECTRIC EEL SHOCK have a damn good sense of humor which I appreciate (I've been a fan of Bloodhound Gang since I was in middle school, for example), but the comically poor photoshopping of the singer wailing on one of the members just makes it a bizarre spectacle.

UNICORN (ユニコーン) - Hattori (服部) (1989):

One of the most legendary Japanese rock albums of its era, the cover still bewilders many to this day. Apparently the guy is some dude named Fukutaro Nakamura (中村福太郎), who supposedly had some connection to the band? Whatever it may be, it definitely remains one of the most memorable Japanese album covers to date for its weirdness and maintains a legacy of sorts today.

KEMURI - waiting for the rain (2005):

Soooo a schoolbus is broken down which holds the bandmates of KEMURI, and one of the kids on the bus got out and took an extreme closeup of her with the band wandering in the background while a giant fountain sprays simultaneously? ... Makes sense.

    KUSU KUSU - cajon (1991):

Seriously, this cover just gives me the creeps. They look like the kind of guys who sneak into your bedroom and just watch you sleep. Those damn colorful freaks.

THE FOOLS - Weed War (1984)

Well now, for a drug war, that is the happiest person I've ever seen involved. I guess she may be a huge drug pin that the government just can't take down? Un...touchable.

    YUKI - Melanchorinista (メランコリニスタ) (2006):

It's no secret, but I have a huuuuuuuuuuuge crush on YUKI. I can't even listen to JUDY AND MARY a lot without swooning like a schoolgirl. So when I heard that she did a "nude" cover of sorts, I immediately jumped on it and Googled it in a heartbeat. Needless to say, I was disappointed. Seriously, this looks like a woodsy Sapporo dude's fantasy come to life. Not cool.

    SPIRAL LIFE - FLOURISH (1995):

What the hell?! I guess this is a close view on the Tokyo perv of the mid 90's? But where the hell is the bottom half?! You know what... I guess I don't want to know.

    SUPERCAR - OOYeah!! (1999):

Now don't get me wrong, I love me some SUPERCAR, especially pre-"HIGHVISION", but what the fuck is this?! A collage of the band members's noses?

THE ZIP GUNS - THIS IS YOUR LIFE (1997):

Something about this cover feels exploitive and makes me uncomfortable.

RC SUCCESSION (RCサクセション)  - FEEL SO BAD (1984):

    Ahh... ohh... umm... no comment.

TRICERATOPS - KING OF THE JUNGLE (2001):

Homoerotic Japanese Tarzan, anybody? Speaking of...

Skip Cows (スキップカウズ) - The Great Hunting (ザ・グレート・ハンティング) (2001):

Yeah... sometimes covers can speak for themselves.

I'd rather just die right away than be in the same place doing the same shit every day. For so many years I was just grinding in my shit flat, trying to introduce variety by going to different cafes, pubs and restaurants every day and really at the end of the day doing fuckall. Now my work allows me to do the lion's share on the laptop, so fuck Finland lol. This year I had a good month in Europe and this is my second tour. I would have gone earlier had terrible luck with my health not intervened ( thanks to the variety of different foreign bacteria in foods abroad for one, barf. ) This time I'll be away for about three weeks going around in Hungary-Serbia-Ukraine and then I'll hit back home for a little while, and in May I'll do the Baltics in succession. I try to save as much money as possible by staying in hostel dorm rooms and such, and it's not as bad as one might think. I really enjoy meeting new people anyway and so far all my experiences have been excellent. Really the only cons I have come across have been: 1. Don't let anyone else do your laundry. They will ruin your clothes 2. Too much drinking 3. Not that much exercise if any 4. Having a good diet is hard. This time I'm going to have more salads, less vodka and do push ups and shadowbox when nobody is around. It's still worth it of course.

Yeah!  Congratulations on 10 years!  I only discovered MH maybe 2-3 years ago?  I forget how, but it must have been searching something like "visual kei forum"

This forum is probably the most fun forum I've been a part of.  I'm also a member of a few other forums for other types of music, but none are really as welcoming and "not full of crap" as MH is.  That's a pretty amazing feat what with the abundance of trolls roaming around forums.  So excellent job on keeping everything relevant and generally pretty nice.

This forum has also been quite helpful and receptive to my questions and polls   As an artist there are things I wonder about people's listening and discovery habits and stuff, and many users of this forum have assisted me in my search for knowledge, at least on the VK/Jrock side of things.  MH has been far more helpful than other places.  I think it is the niche thing, because another forum (or FB group, really) has been quite good too, a glam metal group.  Again, a niche.

So thank you for the years, and keep up the awesome work!

Ten years ago today, Spike760 and myself decided that we wanted to start a Japanese Rock forum. After a while of debating, we eventually settled on Tainted World (after the D’espairsRay song of the same name). Frankly, neither one of expected it to last all that long; this would hardly be the first forum that we had run together that didn’t go anywhere. But what started as a fun little project somehow blossomed into an amazing community. The fact that this site still exists after all this time has little to say about Spike and my’s original plan and everything to say about the members here. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping build this site into what it is today.

While I was one of the key founders of this site, Monochrome Heaven is so much bigger than just me. That became clear to me when we went under the transition from Tainted World to our current name back in 2011. While to really understand why this is so important requires more context, I don’t want to go into a full on history lesson. But since that point, so many members have stepped up and dedicated themselves to this site, putting in the time and effort (and money) into making Monochrome Heaven as great as it possibly can be.

To every member that has joined and felt like they were apart of a community over this silly niche interest we all have, I raise a glass to you. You all are what have made this place special. And to every staff member, current and past, no words can express my thanks to you - you are people that I have come to admire and consider good friends.

But this post isn’t about me, but about the Monochrome Heaven! I want to hear from all of you as to why this community is special, why you’ve becoming coming back for 10 months or 10 years. Or tell us one of your favorite moments from your time coming, whether that was a release you were looking for forever or a stupid meme that took over the forum.

Here’s some from other users to get things started!:

The "[Coll:set]" option is obvious, but I'll actually go with RENTRER EN SOI's "MEGIDDO".

I still remember coming home, loading the forum and seeing the news of their disbandment (in 2008, I believe?). What was most striking for me, however, is how there was a general consensus here (which you know it's difficult to come by) about how terrible their breakup was and most importantly how everyone acknowledged they were going out at their peak. It was a very bittersweet period here.
