  1.

To our wonderfully patient community members,
We want to express our sincerest apologies for the delay with the update. We are continually working on this update and we will notify you when we have a specific date for launch. From here on out, we will be working to make launches run more smoothly in the future. For now, we will be adding support immediately after launch to help you on the new site and ensure the transition goes as smoothly as possible. You can read more about our added support on our blog here:  http://blog.plug.dj/2014/08/a-message-about-our-launch/ Thank you for your continued patience.

    Site is down right now.

The update is NOT happening now. This is an instability issue with the old site and developers are looking into it. We will, as always, give advance warning for any site update Maintenance.

    TL;DR

  2. They posted another announcement about an announcement.

    Hi All,

We know many of you have been asking and we want you to know we will have an announcement for you about the update early next week.
There are quite a few communities hosting events over the course of this weekend that have had their events scheduled for quite some time, and we want to avoid interrupting them with a site update as much as possible.

  3. The site is back up... kinda. No new update. Basically, they restored the site but any points you earn or songs you add to your playlist won't save. They're still backing things up.

    To our community members,

Thanks for holding out while we continued to work on migration through yesterday. We wanted to update you on our current status.

The 65,000,000 pieces of data migration are taking longer than any one of us anticipated, and much longer than our initial migration tests took. Currently, they are running an average that will take 8 days total to completely transfer your playlists to the new site.

We know many of you want to hangout with your community and share your awesome taste in music. In light of that, we will temporarily be bringing the old site back up while we continue the data migration.

Because we are in the process of migrating your data from the moment we initially went into Maintenance, WE WILL NOT BE MIGRATING ANY UPDATED OR NEW PLAYLISTS, POINTS, OR NEW USER DATA EARNED WHILE THIS TEMPORARY OLD SITE IS UP. Any data prior to our initial Maintenance – on August 6th – will remain intact and is in the process of being transferred.

Once data migration is complete we will have to bring the site into Maintenance one more time to get the new site up.

This was not an easy decision on our part, but it is the best option to make sure you can enjoy a version of our site while we continue to work on migration.

    Thanks,
    plug.dj Staff

  4. How much does Japanese music add to your life?

I feel like getting into Japanese music has added being more open-minded to my (musical) life. I find myself checking out more artists no matter what language or the genre because of it. I haven't been "seriously" listening to Japanese music for a long time, in fact it's just over 3-4 years. It's also allowed me to be more tolerant of other people's tastes. I remember when I used to think experimental music was weird and that listening to music in languages that you don't understand was pointless. Also, without getting into Japanese music I wouldn't have many of the friends that I have today.

Would there be any benefits to not having it, like a heavier wallet or bigger bank account? Or is it just plain worth it?

My wallet and bank account would definitely benefit if I wasn't into this music because importing albums from Japan is a pain in the butt and expensive. But so worth it. I like supporting artists that I like. <3

Do you have irreplaceable friends you found through Japanese music?

    Yeah. :)

Has it opened up your life more? Gave you an interest in Japanese culture? How would your interests change if you didn`t have this music?

I've always been interested in Japanese culture but my interest definitely increased when I got into the music. I had always liked anime, manga, and thought Japanese was a cool looking language :P. Honestly, without Japanese music in my life, I wouldn't be learning Japanese right now or have had the desire to change my major to Asian Studies (with a concentration in Japanese studies). I really think it's made me who I am today.

Without Japanese music... I'd probably be listening to pop music like Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, etc. just a lot more (though to be honest I already listen to them a lot). I think over time I would have went from pop music to indie music, and then bouncing back and forth between those with some rock albums thrown in... that seems to be a common pattern for me. :)

  5. plug.dj said that they were going to be in maintenance all last night and this morning, but would give us an ETA (estimated time of arrival) for the new site. But that got delayed as well.

Here is our current status with Maintenance:

Thanks to your awesome passion for music, we are currently migrating all 65,000,000 of the songs and videos you've been listening to on plug.dj over the past 2 years.

Migration of your username, points (which will be converted on the new site), communities, staff, and any bans that have occurred in communities are completely migrated onto the new site.

During our Maintenance time there have been a few unforeseen circumstances that have delayed migration. We have been working through this to ensure all of your information is carried over to our completely new site.

Our ten person staff has been working two days straight with only about five to six hours breaks to get this new site working. We are getting closer and we want to get this site up as much as you want to see it and use it.

We want to give you a site that is completed and one in which we did not cut any corners to get the site up sooner than it is ready. This has taken longer than expected and we will not stop until it is complete.

Due to this, we will not be posting an ETA until we are 100% sure when we can have the site up and running for you to enjoy.

Anyway, I guess I'm not surprised it's being delayed again. Stuff happens. However I also feel that it's good they aren't rushing to get the site online because that would probably create more issues. Just thought I would post this for people who aren't following them on Facebook or Twitter.
