Korean vk is almost non existent at this point, but next to Madmans Esprit two active bands are ms. isohp romatem and VOID

    ms. isohp romatem - 트라우마

VOID - Neo Decadence Album Trailer (sorry, I looked but even though they play shows they don't seem to have full songs online...yet?)

I remember reading his live reports of Madeth gray'll made my skin crawl with envy.
Also the entire blog had a sort of ancient AOL like aesthetic.

Somehow there is no Madmans Esprit thread on MH and seeing they even joined Gan-Shin Records recently I felt like there should be one.
The band was formed 2010 in Seoul and has been active with changing lineup as solo project of vocalist/guitarist 叫號 (Kyuho).

Their style is characterized as "post black metal / visual kei" under the concept "depressive suicidal blackened pop" and their new album is going to be released in October 2018.

It's really nice to hear you guys enjoy his music! ; > I completely agree. It's not that easy to find innovative and genuine artists in visual kei so supporting them is very important.  Especially if they are this skilled, too. Also the non Japanese bands often try to imitate the Japanese ones so much that they end up lacking substance and miss the chance to add their own perspective and this is very different.

A teaser for the upcoming MV has been released yesterday:

They are there, obviously, but isn't that generally how visual kei works? I don't think this is on the same level as copycats like grieva as their own style is clearly audible and also, in my opinion the clichés they choose are nicely arranged and combined.
As for Dir en grey, ZAN (or any other 黒夢 inspired rush song) is definitely there, but the guitar in 運命開化 reminds me of much older melodic mid 90s bands and that is not really a common occurence.

Somehow due to Japans position of "cultural imperialism" Japanese bands mimicking other Asian cultures makes me extremely uncomfortable every time I see it. It's a bit different from playing French aristocrats. But then again, I do not actually know how Chinese people feel about it.

I think the first bands of this 'homage 系' nature I remember were the likes of metis gretel and that was just around 5 years after the original era was over. So one could also argue that it never actually really died out.

As for 90s inspired bands in general : it's great that they exist because I love the genre. (and I know I'm not the only one) however, I almost always feel something really hectic about the music of bands like la'veil mizeria or under fall justice or even metis gretel. Like they always play a little faster than the original, sing a bit more frantic. There is always some really overexcited synth melody playing in the background, too. The calm melancholic part is missing.

hyura got a reaction from avaritonista in KISAKI conspiracy? Strange things I noticed related to Kisaki's old bands Levia and LAYBIAL
Wow, I only saw this thread now. : o
So I'm a bit late to the party.

Kisaki bashing used so be a popular sport so as his fan I feel like a traitor to say this but:
Well. Kisaki was also the guy who took random pictures from google and uploaded them to his blog to look like he had a life.
So yeah it doesn't seem that unlikely for him to invent those releases or even bands afterwards to make his history more colorful.

The 'Beyond the kingdom' book has the same release- and live-history infos that were already posted and no pictures of either bands.
It doesn't say much about Laybial in the history part at all either, only that they were a 'positive punk' band and toured other cities as well. KISAKI left them very fast.
It has, however, some stuff about Levia: appearently they were extremely popular in wakayama, even referred to as 'super band', that's why they played so many oneman lives (pretty unusual for a young band like that!), they often appeared in the local press and played as OA for major bands. The sound was aggressive.

I also looked through my old mags and found some 'Kisaki photo gallery' in a minikomi from '99!
No photo/mention of levia, but two pictures of Laybial. One of them is commented with '1994.5.30 Umeda Guild, Even between the photos I have this one is pretty old. Because this band is currently with Matina there's propably lots of people who are like 'what?' now. The details are secret.' ... So the live history of that band seems to be legit I guess. ;D
The other photo is dated 1994.9.21... which is technically when he was already in his next band. : o So no idea.

I doubt those tapes would disappear just like that. : o 200 and 300 presses is not that few and Kisaki was a famous guy from early on, at least from La'Sadies he made it pretty big in the indies scene, so at least a couple would have made their way to second hand shops and the like. Just like with many other tapes from old nobody bands whose members got famous later on.

What does it say on that Levia tape? ;O; I'm curious.

edit: there is a blog entry here where kisaki says he visited Levias guitarist in Wakayama who is now married with the woman who was their staff at that time. : o But the photo is some UCP people. XD (at least not stolen from google!)

I like this revival of sorts, but at the same time, I feel like it's way too focused on Diru's sound, as well as the Soleil and Matina sounds. It'd be cool if we got some Zi:Kill or Justy Nasty worship. Or even a Shazna inspired band, idk. Ever since Grieva disbanded, I've for some reason kept up less with the others, such as Crucifixion.
I'd really like to see an Early 2000's revival scene. The only band like that we have is GossiP, and they're too GazettE based, imo. They definitely have the ability to branch out, but they don't. I'd like to see more Kagerou, Gill'e Cadith, and Panic Channel worship out there. But that's just me and my taste

So it's been about 10 years since we saw the first real 90's vk inspired band form*. For me personally this was a breath of fresh air since I was never that into the nu-metal thing that was going on during the mid-2000's. What's your opinion on the matter? Do you prefer these bands to other active bands in the scene?
During the last 1-2 years a lot of these bands have decreased, why do you think that is? Would you prefer if bands like Grieva, Ru:natic, La'veil Mizeria etc would continue playing (and maybe even formed a label and giged more together)?

Some bands that I include in this wave of "revival kei":
    Ru:natic
    RounoiЯ
    Sadiesmarry
    La'veil Mizeria
    Vallquar
    Madieduor
    Grieva
    Diaura (early)
    Gossip (kinda)
    CELL (I guess..?)
    Crucifixion
    Gauzes
    Under fall justice

Anyway, feel free to discuss this movement in the scene in general here, or any of your favorite bands from this movement. (I probably forgot some bands that plays this style as well so feel free to namedrop more lol).

    * 10 years since Ru:natic formed, the only band I can think of that was earlier than that is Sadiesmarry but I'm not entirely sure when they started.
